Out of the box i can tell the build quality of this speaker is great for this price range. The sound is loud and clear for small partys or backyard get togethers. Now coming from a bass head with 2 12s in my car they couldve added a bass boost option but considering the sound quality and portability it makes up for it. The reason i got this speaker is the style and size is perfect for at the jobsite or at a hangout, it is easy to carry and is smaller for this type of speaker. Most bluetooth speakers I'm familiar with are smaller and quieter - fine for small indoor spaces, but lacking for larger spaces (including outdoors). Not so with this "Stomp" speaker. It's loud, and especially good at providing thumping bass. The lights are a nice touch (and there are several modes, including "off" if you prefer). Build quality is exceptional, with a rubberized feel (that I'm guessing also helps with waterproofing). I like that it's also expandable to a stereo set if you end up getting another speaker in the future. This speaker is styled to be a small party speaker. Lights and the ability to play multiples in wireless fashion are good things. However, the bad or mediocre aspects ruin the fun and make this not a very good option for this type of speaker. First issue is bass performance. This speaker doesn't do well with bass heavy music and can get some distortion. There is no bass option on this speaker, nor is there any app support, which is a big oversight by Skullcandy. Even smaller brands now offer apps for their speakers. Overall volume isn't that loud, even at max volume. Taking this outside will likely result in you wishing the speaker could deliver more volume. The speaker's overall sound is also a bit flat and lacking in detail and clarity. It's a mono speaker, so just a single woofer and tweeter. The Stomp being a party style speaker would probably have you assuming it has included wireless microphones or at the very least, a couple of microphone jacks so you can use your own mics for karaoke. Sadly, this isn't the case. Another big oversight by Skullcandy to not include a karaoke option. So all in all, this is a very basic speaker with mediocre bass performance, no app support, lacking in clarity and output and no ability to do karaoke. Skullcandy also has their new boombox style speaker available for close to the same price, but it performs better. If you have to buy a Skullcandy speaker, get the Barrel, not the Stomp. If you want something for karaoke, get something else entirely. ... show more

There are a lot of Bluetooth speakers out there, particularly at the price point of this one. There is no question that by spending upwards of $300 one can get an impressive piece of equipment, but at that price one has to think hard about carting it to the beach, tailgate party or outdoor gathering during inclement weather. A good quality speaker in the $100 - 150 price range could be the answer. When I was looking around, this Skull Candy beast (and it is a beast) caught my eye. Price was in my range and the brand was one I was familiar with, not some unknown manufacturer which named the product with a mishmash of incoherent letters. My Skull Candy ear buds have served me well over the years, so I ordered this speaker. I was expecting the speaker to be large, but the box that showed up exceeded what I was expecting. It is also heavy, in a nice, solid way. This speaker was a snap to set up. It paired to my phone right away the first try. The feature set is quite impressive and the array of lights is arresting, to say the least. Tapping a button allows one to change the light patterns and colors effortlessly. It also can really crank out the sound. It may be a touch muddy sounding at low volumes, but when playing loudly I could detect no distortion. Definitely suited for a loud party outdoors. A nice bonus is the waterproofing which definitely adds to its durability. A speaker of this quality at this price is a worth while purchase. I can recommend it ... show more
