We ordered two of these, one for our granddaughter and another for our daughter who teaches special needs in a public elementary school. Our granddaughter loves her drum, and our daughter too. Our daughter told us today that one of her special needs students was having a serious meltdown over something that was dropped and shattered. She got the drum out and sat down with him in the hallway and started to play it. He immediately quieted and watched, and in time picked up one of the mallets and started to play it himself. In a few minutes he was smiling and completely engaged. Our daughter says the drum is of high quality with lovely tones and fairly easy to figure out how to play simply songs. That's a huge relief, because some of the reviews said that the drum was not well made and the tones were out of tune. That is not our experience with either of the drums.

This review is for Steel Tongue Drum 6 Inche 11 Note Steel Drums Rain Chime,Raindrop Drum,Rain Drum for Outside Garden（Dark Blue). Let me say first that when this product arrived, I was really confused. I had been looking forward to putting the rain drum outside and enjoying the sound from an open window, but when this product arrived, everything about it looked like an instrument one plays. A nice velvet pouch is included, which would really be unnecessary if the product were made for outside. Additionally, the manual doesn't say a single thing about it being outside but instead has good information about the history of these drums, as well as tips for playing and some songs for beginners to try. Hammers are included for striking the drum. I had to come back here to the listing to make sure it was, in fact, a device that could be used outside. Having said that, it produces a truly beautiful sound, reminiscent of Corinthian wind chimes. It's well made, heavy and sturdy, so if one were playing it as an instrument, it wouldn't move around easily. It really is beautiful. An additional note - there is a plug on the bottom that should probably be removed if it's being used outside. This is an assumption on my part, since there's no info in the manual about it, but otherwise, water will just pool in the drum.

Wow. This steel drum is WAY better than I was expecting. It's really fabulous - I love it! The metal drum is made very well. The metal is thick, strong, and very durable. The bottom of the drum has rubber feet that keep it in place - no sliding around. The paint on the drum is done perfectly. I really wanted this drum in dark grey or black, but since that color wasn't available, I ordered the dark blue. I don't usually like the color blue, but this dark blue is more like a very dark grey with a slight blue tint. I actually really love the color - surprisingly. The drum sticks are also made very well. They work great with the drum. The drum has number stickers on it, and while they are helpful, I doubt very much that these stickers will withstand the outside weather or heavy rain. Once the stickers fall off, I will likely add outdoor vinyl numbers to the drum (using a Cricut machine). The sound is really beautiful. No matter where you strike the drum, you can make beautiful music. The "tongues" of the drum seem to be tuned very well. We tried to make music just with our fingers, but that doesn't really work. We also tried to use the finger mallets, and while they do work, the sound just isn't as good as when you use the mallets. Also, the finger mallets are quite small for adult hands - even when using them just on your fingertips. The instruction manual is handy, but it does have the typical English translation issues, so some of it doesn't make much sense. Still, you get the idea of what it is conveying. There are songs you can play in the manual, which is fun to do. It's Winter now, so we can't test this drum outside under the house eaves where the rain runs heavy. I am looking forward to trying this in the Spring at our lake cabin - we have a corner of our gazbo without a gutter where the rain pours off the roof. I think this drum will work well there. I am concerned about the drum filling with water - I'm guessing that will really change the sound of the drum - but we'll have to wait until Spring to test this. I plan on leaving this drum outside on the gazebo deck at the cabin for the Spring/Summer season. I think our guests will have a lot of fun playing with it, and I know we will, too. Overall, I really think this drum is well worth the $29.99 price. It is high quality that is made to last. PROS: - Very well made - Heavy-duty (and heavy) steel construction - Perfect paint job and beautiful color - Beautiful sound, perfectly tuned CONS: - Number stickers likely won't last if drum is kept outside in the rain
