I think the speed is really good but I never really measured it with any official software. The transfer rate seems very quick between disk drives. I could not tell you the exact transfer rates I get because I have no idea if the rates I see are from the old hdd, the new ssd or the combination of everything. My point is this does the job and had no trouble setting it up. Quality was top notch. The value was expectedly within my range. I haven’t had to reach out to their support so that’s a good sign after a month of 24/7 usage. I downloaded the drivers but never had to use them because Windows 11 automatically detected this card. I don't get all the comments on needing drivers. My card plays nice right out of the box. No drivers were needed on my setup running Windows 10. Simple plug-and-play. I also own an Oculus Quest 2 and use the official Oculus Link cable. The reason why the Oculus Link cable doesn't fully seat in the USB-C port on the card is not the card's fault. The reason why the connection doesn't "click" in the port is because the housing around the USB-C connection of the Oculus Link cable is so fat that it hits the case trim, blocking the USB-C connection to fully insert in the card's USB-C slot. Other USB-C cords I have that don't have a fat housing (like the USB-C cord that comes with a MacBook) connects completely in the card with a click. All because the cord's housing doesn't hit the case trim. I wish the Oculus Link cable didn't have such a fat end. To resolve this, you can use the L-shape end of the Oculus Link cable to connect to the USB-C card port and the straight end into the Oculus Link. The L-shape end of the Oculus Link cable connects fully in the USB-C card port. ... show more

When it came time to upgrade my home media server and expand its hard drive capacity, I had a couple of choices. I could replace several drives with larger ones and continue using the internal capacity of my PC, knowing that eventually I'd just face the same expansion problem again, or I could move my existing drives into an external multi-bay enclosure and give myself room to continue adding storage as needed. I chose the external enclosure route, but I didn't want to sacrifice throughput between the enclosure and the server. I wanted a dedicated, fast connection rather than sharing bandwidth with the other USB devices already connected to the PC. That's where this StarTech 10Gbps PCIe card came in. It has done exactly what I needed it to do. It gives my external drive enclosure its own high-speed USB connection and handles the job without taking up much space inside the case. The card itself is small, so it doesn't unnecessarily add to the heat or airflow congestion inside an already populated server. Installation was straightforward, performance has been excellent, and most importantly, I don't have to think about it. I've always found it funny that some of the best computer components you buy are the ones you eventually forget you even installed. They quietly sit there doing their job so reliably that there's simply no reason to think about them again. That's exactly what this StarTech card has been for me. It solved my storage expansion problem without creating another bottleneck or adding unnecessary bulk inside the server. This card is low profile, runs next to my GPU and so far has had no issues. I connect my 6-bay DAS to it via one of the USB-C ports and access the drives easily. This is a data card, and exactly what I needed.

    • Fixes HP Reverb G2 Compatibility. Expensive but you get what you pay for.

For people who are experiencing HP reverb G2 disconnect issues, this problem is due to signal corruption because of their lousy cable as well as power loss due to said cable. This USB C board compensates for both. 40-100% higher price than competing boards but after trying out two other devices that simply didn't support my HP Reverb G2, I went to my old standby, Startech. I used to compete with these guys and they make damned great products. What I liked about this product is that like so many of their products, Windows already has the driver because Startech only uses OEM components on their boards. These are the same components used on the motherboards themselves so the OS typically recognizes the board as one of its own. I tested in two different motherboards and in one the drivers had to be downloaded but that was automatic, in the other more modern board, the drivers were already present. ... show more

Bought a 8tb Seagate Onetouch it's a 3.5in external drive I wanted to connect it to my unraid machine and archive some data. Had trouble with the onboard port browning and throwing the device into an errored state. So I decided to buy an addon card.
