  • time will tell....
Size: 150m / 492ft Style: VGA | USB
I have a piece of equipment that has to be run from a locally attached computer, but I wanted to be able to operate the computer from a different room (about 100 feet away). After installation, I immediately had issues so I called tech support. The tech support agent did not seem very familiar with this model (SV565UTPU), but was very helpful and gave me correct information. I learned that, despite what I had thought at time of purchase, my model will not allow the use of both the remote and local keyboard/mouse at the same time when the device is in A/B flashing mode. The keyboard/mouse can only be used from one location and I must physically hit the switches in both locations to swap them. My generic keyboard would not work with my model so I had to swap out the keyboard. Also, when I move/tap the remote unit, the monitor display on the remote end flickers, so I suspect that one of the connections may not be 100%. It is getting the job done so far, so I do not intend to return it; but it I could have a do-over, I'd probably pick a different model or a different brand. ... show more

  • TRULY 5 STARS
Size: 150m / 492ft Style: VGA | USB
If you work with lots of computer systems as I have over the years this comes almost as a necessity when needed! These units do so much more than the way I am currently using them for. Basically I am only using the device as a remote 150' feet away control device for a computer based HD-SDI routing system. I am using a remote monitor, mouse and keyboard. I could use it with another routing computer systems monitor, keyboard and mouse but I like have the 2 monitor system better than an all in one. But I know I will use it as an all in one solution for other systems. Love being able to adjust the monitor output levels using basic keyboard commands. I have used Star Tech.com devices and they have not let me down yet. This unit was warranted for 2 years and should give me many years of confident remote computer control! ... show more

  • Remote KVM
Size: 150m / 492ft Style: VGA | USB
Works great for several applications. I've used this to simply send a VGA signal over cat5 to a remote monitor. I've also used it as a remote KVM. You hook up a keyboard, mouse and vga monitor and you can control a computer as if you were sitting in front of it. Another great feature is the AB switching. So you can have a keyboard monitor and mouse local to the PC as well as a remote and it will automatically switch Control back and forth based on who is using it. One small glitch I have noticed is that you usually need to press any key on the keyboard to get it to switch before you can use the mouse. ... show more

  • Never an issue with StarTech products
Size: 150m / 492ft Style: VGA | USB
Once again, I was in a pinch to find a solution, and StarTech came to the rescue. This is one of three StarTech items I own. There are power adapter ports on both units, but the package only contains one AC adapter, which is fine because only the remote end needs power. Connect the ports to the boxes, and you're all set. It couldn't be any simpler. The product is light on instructions, but that's because it's really easy to set up. ... show more

  • Does Not De-Skew Video very well, unless you like "Ghosting"
Size: 150m / 492ft Style: VGA | USB
I could not recommend the Startech for CAT5 KVM extending. The biggest issue is with Skewing of video! Do your own research to understand this issue. Since CAT5 cable strands, being of different lengths, create a latency of video signals, this unit does not correctly fix this. It says it has settings for De-Skewing, but it is not very effective, even over 10 feet of cat5. The video output from the Startech creates a ghosting effect, that makes it useless! I did a lot of research about CAT5 and video, and found another unit, Adder X200, that has a lot of fine tuning where my video at 300 feet, is perfect and NO ghosting or delays of any kind! We are using the Adder with a KVM of 8 computers and it switches between each computer very smoothly and the Adder also provides audio. We had many issues with the Startech and the hot keys for switching our 8 port KVM. The specs for the Adder: The AdderLink X200 AS/R model has integrated skew correction with a 300MHz bandwidth (1/4 of a pixel movement at 1600 x 1200 resolution). This removes the video skew issues that can be caused by longer CATx cables. The Adder costs more than the Startech, but well worth it! Startech tech support: The tech support was of no help. They kept going in circles about did you change this, did you try another, but the Adder worked on the same setup the Startech did NOT. After a week or so of this communications, we tossed both units we bought into the trash. (We were outside the return time frame for Amazon) Hard lessen for us to learn, but we moved on to the Adder! In closing, here is a great article on this issue: www.aten-usa.com/data/whitepaper/WP_Deskew.pdf The Startech did not work for us in a common setup for extending KVW over CAT5. Good luck to you! ... show more

  • Worked like a champ
Size: 200m / 650ft Style: VGA | USB
Worked like a champ. Ran 2 separate cables straight shot with no issue. If they come up with one that works on a switch, 10 stars. BTW, we also used a wireless keyboard/mouse combo from Logitech, no problems.

  • Doesn't support non-standard keyboards
Size: 150m / 492ft Style: VGA | USB
I bought this to extend my keyboard and mouse from my office upstairs to my computer in the basement. Turns out that because I have a gaming keyboard it won't work. The mouse worked fine and the keyboard lit up, but I couldn't type any characters and the keyboard didn't appear in Windows 7 device manager. I got onto a chat session with Startech and they said that this kvm only works with generic standard keyboards. In addition to not working with gaming keyboards they told me that it might not work with backlit keyboards either. I give the product 2 stars for not mentioning this in the product literature, as I certainly wouldn't have bought it if I knew it was incompatible with what I had. If you buy this product make sure that you intend to use it only with a plain vanilla keyboard. I'm going to return the product. ... show more
