  • Works fine switching between a Macbook Pro 2019 and a Dell (Windows) desktop
I bought this KVM to switch between my Macbook Pro 2019 work laptop and my Dell (Windows) home desktop. I have a Dell 32 Curved Gaming Monitor (S3220DGF) and both computers work well with that monitor hooked up to this KVM. Both computers are at the max resolution of the monitor (2560 x 1440) and are at 60Hz. Two things disappointed me though (and you should be aware of): 1. I couldn't change the hotkey from SCROLL-LOCK+SCROLL-LOCK to something else as it says you can in the documentation (I wanted CTRL+CTRL). If you load the software (USBKVM Switcher) there is NO option to change the hotkey sequence. And the hotkey only works on the WIndows PC. So I just use the physical remote switching button. No big deal. 2. When switching from Windows to Mac, it takes about 10-12 seconds for the Mac desktop to be displayed. I wish it was quicker, but I can live with it. Other than that, the switch has been rock solid and it does what it's supposed to do. It's a good price and from a good company too. Their support is great too (I called them about changing the hot key sequence and the discrepancy in the manual). ... show more

  • Works as advertised for me
I'm using this thing so I can connect a work-related laptop to my existing desktop config. Works as advertised. I am using a wired keyboard and a wireless mouse (with the Logitech wireless gizmo plugged in where a mouse would go), and this combo seems to work fine. The laptop will wake on mouse or keyboard, but the desktop won't for some reason (I have to hit the power button to wake it). Not sure why that happens, but in my situation it's not a problem because the button is easily accessible; your mileage may vary. I'm not using it for audio because the laptop lacks the connectors required to do this, so I can't attest to whether or not it works, but everything else switches fine so I don't see why audio wouldn't. It takes about 2-3 seconds to switch when you hit the button, which is acceptable. ... show more

  • Works extremely well at 3440 x 1440
Using an LG Ultrawide, getting 60fps SDR. The toggle button works, the device runs and doesn't flake out. I'm happy with it. For what it's worth I don't use the audio cables so I can't speak to how well those work.

  • Exactly what I needed for my Covid-Work-From-Home issues!
Like many people, when Covid hit, my employer gave me a laptop and told me to go work from home. Well, I already had a home based Scentsy business, where my office was set up with my Scentsy Laptop and a Second monitor, and a keyboard & mouse. So then I set up my work provided laptop, with the dock they provided me- and hooked it all up to my monitor, keyboard & mouse. The problem then became the fact that I am lazy. I hated switching the cords every day, multiple times a day, to be able to switch between laptops, and have the convenience of the 2nd monitor, mouse & keyboard. I didn't have enough room for 2 full set ups.... so I just stopped using the set up for my Scentsy business. I would just use my laptop- as a laptop. But I hated it. So I went on a search for something that allowed me to have 2 different laptops- completely separate, that I could easily switch between- but still use the 2nd monitor, keyboard & mouse without moving any cables. I found a device by startech.com, but it said something about sharing files between the 2 laptops. Because of the security of my job, I could not have any file sharing, or even the possibility of it. So I called StarTech.com to be that annoying person who knows enough about tech to be dangerous, but lacks enough knowledge to be annoying. The tech support was BEYOND amazing. The guy didn't make me feel dumb. He listened to what my situation was. He was very knowledgeable about the products & what would work for me and he led me to this product. It was EXACTLY what I needed. It works with the dock I have to use for my work laptop, and it works with my Scentsy Laptop. It was super easy to install, and now when I want to switch from Work, to my Scentsy business, I click a button. The 2nd monitor, keyboard & mouse switch- just like that- to whichever system I want! AND- bonus- the other system still stays up & running- so I can actually run both systems at the same time- I just can't use the 2nd monitor, mouse & keyboard with both at the same time. This has made my life SOOOO much easier to work both separate things from different laptops. The tech support was some of the best I've ever encountered. I am SOOO HAPPY with this product! I do wish it had more USB ports so I could plug my speakers into it as well. It does have 2 USB ports, but I use them for my mouse & keyboard. It does have the older ports that older mouse & keyboards used to have- so if I changed to one of those, I would free up a port for my speakers..... but that is so minimal, it doesn't bother me at all. My speakers are plugged into the dock for my work laptop, and I can run them while working on my Scentsy laptop if needed. If I need to zoom or something with Scentsy, I just run off the laptop's speakers & mic. 5 star product, 5 Star tech support! ... show more

  • Mixed bag
The good: it actually supports 4k resolutions at 60hz, something other KVMs advertise but fail to do (two previous KVMs could only drive 4k at 30hz). The mixed: It's bus powered. I was able to get my power-hungry keyboard to work by passing it through a separate powered USB hub. Also the input cables, including HDMI 2.0, are hard wired to the device. You save some money on cables but you won't be able to replace them. The bad: It doesn't have EDID support. Every time you switch inputs your computers think the displays are disconnected so your windows are constantly moving. I bought two HDMI EDID pass-through adaptors which should fix it, but that added $40 to the setup. ... show more

  • Great until it failed, but a replacement is on the way
I have a laptop and a desktop, both with standard monitors. The shared monitor is 4K. I really like this, especially because with a 4K monitor both PCs have keep-alives going, so they continue to think they're connected when I'm using the other one. Cheaper ones don't do that, and everything gets resized to the smaller monitors, like if you just unplugged the big one. I also like the switch button because you can hide the kvm itself and still have easy access. Everything was fine until one hdmi cable started to fail, so the display would go black for a second or so, sometimes longer. You can't work that way. If I could have swapped out a cable it would have been no problem. So it's essentially useless. However, tech support was great and a new one is on its way. Hope it was just a fluke. [update] The new one arrived right away and works great. ... show more
