  • Simple and easy-to-clean dripper w/ pour over method explained
UPDATE #3: I have taken this product review from 5 stars to 1 star to 4 stars for this little conical dripper. I give it 5 stars in functionality as using this dripper makes the most superior cup of coffee at home, hands down. I prefer the dripper over the French Press, the Aeropress, Espresso, Turkish coffee, Chemex, and other paper-filtered pour over drippers. I feel like I get the best cupping without the foreknowledge of tiny bits of paper that one would be drinking if using a paper filter, in the case of filtered pour overs and Chemex. Furthermore, since I know that I can make the best cup of coffee at home, I have little motivation to venture to coffee shops unless I go for the social aspects. I use 2T of course ground coffee using the Capresso 565 Burr Grinder for every 6 ounces of water, heated to 205F degrees using the Bonavita Electric Kettle . The quality/workmanship of the product is the main concern, but if I treat it delicately, like fine china, empty its contents each time with a spoon, wash and scrub the inside, and let it air dry, its structure has held up for many months now for the 3rd one I’ve owned. If it breaks again, it’s $15 I will simply buy another one. UPDATE #2: Yitelle was kind of enough to send me a replacement although it took 2 weeks to ship. Furthermore, after a couple weeks of daily use both the rubber thumb tab and the rubber ring around the base has fallen off. The former is not so much the issue as is the latter, since the rubber base helps hold the dripper in place for large mouthed coffee mugs like the ones I use. Yitelle claimed in my last correspondence that “they’ve had issues with one of their manufacturers” and they sent me one from a new batch that has corrected the manufacturing defects. As far as I can tell, this is not true, the dripper is simply just cheaply made, designed to take peoples money since after about a month of use it becomes useless. Very disappointed. UPDATE #1: After 3 weeks of daily use, 2-3 times per day, the top metal bracketed rim broke off while dumping the grounds into the trash can. Will attempt to contact Yitelle for a replacement. Reduced 5 star rating to 1 star in the interim. A 3-week product lifetime is simply unacceptable. I love pour over coffee and this coffee dripper fits the bill in so many ways. Pros: 1) one-piece; 2) easy to clean; 3) base is big enough for most large-mouthed mugs; 4) the thumb tab at top can be held without burning fingers; 5) does not need a paper filter; 6) holds quite a bit of coffee, I bet I could fit 3/4-1 full cup of coffee grounds, which is more than enough for a 32 oz coffee carafe. The only con I see so far is that it's hard to measure, when pouring, how much coffee is in the mug through the holes at base, but the dripper can just as easily be picked up to check. This is how I prepare a great cup of pour over coffee: I start with 2T of grounds for every 8-10 oz of coffee desired (the included spoon measures 1T exactly). I currently have medium ground coffee but may grind it to medium-fine next time. It's recommended to wait 30 seconds or so after the kettle stops boiling before starting to pour (aiming for about 195-205F water temperature, with darker roasts closer to 195F). You may want to transfer the boiling water to a measuring flask or a goose-necked pitcher so that you know exactly how much water you should pour out so as to not overflow your coffee mug. Once the coffee grounds are in the filter, pour just enough water over them to wet all the grounds. You may notice the coffee grounds rise, or bloom, which is indicative of CO^2 escaping from the individual grounds. Wait until the coffee grounds stop blooming, and then pour a bit more water. You may notice it takes 2-3 pours before the CO^2 escapes completely. Now, gently but steadily pour water around the surface of the grounds so that just enough water covers the entire coffee bed but doesn't "unearth" it. You should be able to keep this stream up until all the desired liquid has been poured out. Let the final drops of water drip out of the filter and voila, a great cup of coffee! If you find the coffee too weak, consider adding more grounds next time or grinding to a finer ground. If too strong, add less coffee or dilute with extra water. Justification of this pouring process as follows: in order to extract the best tasting acids and sugars from your coffee grounds, only 20% of the mass should be extracted. By pouring evenly across the entire bed of coffee grounds, you'll ensure that you gain as much flavor from as many grounds as possible. This is the main downside to drip coffee makers: the water stream hits one point in the coffee bed which over-extracts taste from the point it hits while under-extracting taste from the outlying grounds in the filter. Pouring your water too fast will result in weak or flavorless coffee whereas submerging grounds too much or for too long might risk the less desirable, astringent flavors from being extracted. (This is why the French Press method can lead to bitter tasting coffee for the uninitiated, because leaving the grounds submerged in water past 4-5 minutes will extract the bitter tasting polyphenols from the grounds). There's definitely a balance to having a great tasting pour over coffee. If desired, you can time the process, shooting for about 2.5-3 minutes total from the time you initially wet the grounds for the bloom to the last drops dripping into the mug. Cheers! ... show more

  • The BEST balance between convenience, cost, flavor, and environmental impact. This is my "go to" product for great coffee!
This is truly one of my best purchases in the last 2 years. I love coffee. I have 3 different conical burr grinders, one manual and 2 electrical (different reviews) in an attempt to get the best/most consistent grind of coffee beans- at home and on demand. I love french press coffee and percolated coffee. I like being able to determine my brew time, by grind consistency, and roast. I'm also VERY big on having my coffee/hot beverages NOT come in contact with plastic (BPA free or not). Part of the reason I love both french press and percolated coffee is because it can be brewed without contact with plastic. I also like both because they retain the (beneficial) oils, from the coffee beans, which paper filters often remove completely. When I finally discovered the pour over option, I found it to be a great, less time consuming process that gave me the full flavor of my coffee, with no plastic, and minimal to no "sludge" at the bottom of my cup.. Then I was frustrated by the cost and availability of filters and ended up buying more than one ceramic pour over product (1 for each filter style- true cone like Hario V60 or flat bottom) to be able to use a pour over option. The taste was (is) great, but buying paper filters for them was a problem. After 6 months of contemplating the Yitelle pour over, I finally decided to give it a try. I will NEVER GO BACK to paper filters. I was skeptical about how well it would work and clean after use, as well as ability to control brew/steep time. My biggest disappointment is the 6 months I waited and the $$money$$ I spent on filters before "taking a chance" on the Yitelle stainless steal pour over cone. It's not chance. It is the perfect balance between French Press and Percolator with (nearly) the convenience of a k-cup AND without the environmental impact of either a paper filter or (worse) another plastic "cup" as a by-product. I LOVE IT. It is now my first choice for coffee brewing and consumption. Getting the grinds consistent and "just so" for a french press is a project, even with a conical grinder. Consistency still counts (very much) but the Yitelle SS pour over is more forgiving and minimizes the about of particles (sludge) in each cup exceptionally well. The only reason that I ever use a drip coffee maker is because I can set a timer to have coffee ready for me when I wake up. After that first cup, I go straight to this Yitelle SS pour over. Once you identify you ideal grind, water temp, and amount of grounds for your cup size, I dare say, there's nothing better. Grind fresh, get the right water temp, and use this Yitelle pour over for the best cup of coffee you'll have outside of a Paris restaurant that serves the perfect cup of French press coffee. Sorry for the long winded review, but wanted to convey just how great this product is the reason(s) I feel so strongly about using it. *Another benefit!!- ever tried to use your ceramic pour over with your travel mug? Doesn't fit, won't balance on the mouth of most travel mugs. The Yitelle SS pour over fits and sits very well on the top of even the smallest opening travel container I have! No more pour over into a coffee mug, then pouring that into a travel mug. This thing fits! Pour over straight into you favorite "to go" travel mug. Love it! ... show more

  • Saves filters but not built to last
This is my 2nd brand of stainless filterless cone, and this one suffers from issues too. This one's cone bent on its stand so it's no longer level - apparently from something leaning on it in my dish drainer? I wash it every day obviously and dry it in the dish drainer. It still works without spilling or having come detached from the base for now, but this happened within a month of purchase so I don't have high hopes for its longevity. Coffee tastes great with this model and there are no grounds. It's great to not need paper filters - so wasteful. This is easy to clean with urnex or boiling water (and cleaning it weekly is a must to keep the flow rate fast). The silicone rings seem convenient for handling although i end up leaving them off after i clean it since i do it so often. I've had 3 of these steel cones (2 different brands) in as many years and at ~$20/pop, it's not saving any money. I have yet to find a model that's durable which is just disappointing. ... show more

Works quite well. I'd have given 4.7 stars if that were an option. The screen is super fine. I get very little particle at the bottom of the cup, and I grind fairly fine. The cutouts in the base are a great idea. My old plastic Melita cones had no windows, and many a cup did runneth over. I can see into the cup with this one so I know when to stop adding water. Smart. It would be nice if the base of the cone were lower than the outer ring of the base, so the water would run towards the center. The central part is lower than the outer ring, so all the water does go in the cup, but some of it sits in the well around the windows. This isn't an issue of water not going in the cup; it all does; there's no mess. What the water sitting in the well prevents is swirling the unit to get the grinds to even out. With the water in the well, I can't do it without making the water go over the edge. To be honest though, such swirling isn't really needed because I can add water in increments and add it around the edge of the grinds to get them down. This is kind of a petty nit for me. Also, if the center were lowered, the unit wouldn't be stable on a flat closed surface like the counter top without having little feet. All things considered, it's better off the way it is. One thing I'm not thrilled about is the spot welding. They're not defective and none of them have failed, but spot welds can't sustain much abuse. I rinse in water after each use and I'm careful to handle and shake off the water holding the rim of the cone near the top. If I handled it by the base I think the welds would eventually break. So no rough handling and hopefully it will hold up. So far so good. If it weren't for the spot welds I'd give it a five star with no misgivings. But functionally, it's all good. I'll probably run it through the dishwasher once in a while, but I've just been rinsing so far. I don't see any reason it couldn't go in the top rack. The stainless steel is apparently the correct grade because there's not a speck of rust. I always let it air dry after each use, but it does appear to be made of proper high quality SS. You know what, I changed my mind and gave it five stars. Consider my comments to be cause for some shaving off that, but I didn't think my review should make it suffer 4 stars. ... show more

  • Best flavor ever! Here's how I cleaned it!
I've been using this since May of 2020. I use fine ground coffee, so I also use a #2 coffee filter so clean up is easier. Within the past 6-8 months, the water doesn't drain out of the cone as readily as when it was new. The seller told me to put it in the dish washer for 2 cycles and then boil the cone for 30 minutes in a pot. I did just that and it worked great! I would recommend skipping the dishwasher and just boiling the cone and repeat until the water in the pot is clear. While I was washing this cone, I went back to using another mesh cone I had, with a plastic holder... the coffee didn't taste the same! This stainless steel cone allows for the coffee to taste the best! Thank you! Enjoy the 'Joe' Wickey ... show more

  • The best one ever
I've tried a few of these things from various sources over the years, and this by far the best of the lot. I bought my first one 2.5 years ago and just ordered another for company. It's been used at minimum every day over that period of time. Frequently, twice daily. Mainly hand-washed, but also tossed in the top rack of the dishwasher every week or so. With other models, the top rim eventually broke off from heavy usage (i.e., being banged on a sink or counter to get the coffee grounds out). And/or the rubber edge liner split or stretched out. To date, neither has been a problem with this unit. Definitely worth the extra buck or two. You get what you pay for. ... show more

  • Replaced plastic version -- UPDATE
We've been using this fantastic filter for 9 months now, and we love it even more than ever. It has definitely paid for itself, and I like not having to hunt for paper filters. We use it with Community Coffee ground coffee with excellent results. It's also worked perfectly with a very fine grind. I've taken the gaskets off occasionally to run it through the dishwasher on the top rack with no problem. The gaskets finally broke and I reached out to the Seller through Amazon. AMAZING customer service. Julie sent replacements in a blink and even included a hand written note. Wow. You just can't beat the combination of a remarkable product and outstanding service. Thumbs up. Got this to replace the plastic one I'd used for years. It took #2 paper filters. Even at 2+ x the cost of plastic, I prefer this stainless one. No filters to buy and store, plus it is easier to clean and looks better. Mine also has rubber gaskets on the top rim, unlike the photos. They come loose occasionally but are easy to re-secure. It is not often you get a good product for the money paid, but this checks all the boxes. It removes particles as good as paper. It is easy to clean (I just rinse it under water). It is very well built. The only way someone can break it is if they try to.. Should last for many many years!

  • Great coffee, but hard to clean and rubber rings are a pain.
This was great at first and made great tasting coffee. It is more work to clean than a paper filter, of course, but I like it as a backup for when I am out of filters. I feel that the coffee gets stuck in the layers, and I have to really spray it with the pressure sprayer and run it through the dish washer to get it clean. Even then, I am wondering if there is coffee in there because it is working slower than when I got it, after only a month of use. I did soak it in vinegar which helped a tiny bit. I don't love the rubber rings, either. They have to be removed for cleaning and putting them on is just more work and the large one seems loose now. All and all, I would say that this is a great thing to have as a backup for when you are out of filters, but not great for everyday use. I don't regret the purchase for that reason. ... show more

  • Robust flavor, and with care, it lasts long.
I've made 80+ cups of coffee with this, but with two different devices. The first one got clogged at 35ish cups. But the second one hasn't slowed down much at all, after 50 cups. Today was the 50th, so I realized it was time to write a review. First things first, you need to take care of this product. You should not: 1. Put it in the dishwashes (unless you want to drink coffee that tastes like soap) 2. Use finely ground beans 3. Use boiling water (wait for it to cool a bit) 4. Fail to brush it out vigorously after each use. By using a coarse grind, using the right water temperature, and vigorously brushing after each use, it's working great after 50 uses. This company is really awesome too. I emailed them, telling them my first one got clogged, and they shipped me a replacement for free with a handwritten note. I appreciate that so much. ---- FLAVOR: now, compared to the Chemex, I'm not sure, but since this does not use a paper filter, in theory you get more flavor from the coffee. What I have indeed experienced is a richer coffee flavor, as well as a cleaner "high" from the caffeine. Unlike most coffee I get in a cafe, I don't get as much of a crash after dirnking pour-overs. I also feel it lighting up my brain much more than drip coffee, no matter what blend of coffee I use (organic is best though). So I've really enjoyed the flavorthis thing produces, and I like it because it's so unique. You don't find coffee like this served at coffee shops, so having this at home makes me feel special lol. As far as the rubber parts coming off. Yes, the rubber part for the thumb comes loose easily. But who cares. I don't care. THe only downside with this is you can't make more than a couple cups of coffee. I only use it for myself, so it's perfect for my needs. ... show more

  • Great except one fatal design flaw
We got this item fast and in perfect condition. We used it approximately 3 weeks and then the 4 points where the "cone" part is press welded to the base part came loose. That meant a couple things: first being that coffee grounds now were able to pass through into your cup. Then secondly, the whole funnel area became unstable and would not stay upright when pouring liquid into it. That's dangerous when you are pouring hot water! What I did like what that it was a stellar filter - until it broke, I never had one iota of a ground in my cup. I got a really great cup of coffee every time if I followed the ratio guidelines. I prefer a totally fresh cup of coffee every time, and it eliminated making too much and not feeling like drinking it that day. The addition of a rubber grip all the way around the top of the funnel as well as around the base made it super easy to handle when it was hot from use. Hope that explains my 3 star well - it's not a total bomb... until it is. I have not yet replaced this and went back to my good ole coffee press, but now that I have used the pour over, I really miss it. The taste is different - which surprised me! I actually processed this for a return then when I went to get it and package it up, my husband had thrown it away so I was unable to send it back for a refund. However, it appeared I would have had no issues returning it and getting my money back had I had it to return. If the maker fixed this one flaw, this would hands down be my favorite tool to make coffee. I will keep searching for another without this flaw but similar qualities. ... show more

  • A Fantastic Coffee Accessory!
UPDATE: August 8, 2019 Per my earlier review below, I have been using my dripper happily multiple times daily over the last year with NO ISSUES (just remember to keep it clean promptly and regularly), but last week a couple of the spot welds broke holding the cone together. I contacted Yitelle and within two days they had a repacement on the way to me, free of charge, and updated with the new silicone ring style. Again, great product and great customer service! I purchased a Yitelle Stainless Steel Pour Over Coffee Cone Dripper in June 2018, hoping to find a suitable replacement for the plastic cones and paper filters I had been using for years. Within a week, I ordered a second Yitelle cone, it was that good. No question, this is a great product. Several things: 1) Keep it clean. Either use the brush that comes with it or (preferable) use an old toothbrush. Clean it up IMMEDIATELY after using it, even before you drink your coffee. Getting in that habit will pay off in trouble-free brewing. 2) If it does get clogged at all over time (it is a very fine stainless steel screen) soak it for a while in some hot Oxiclean, brush and rinse thoroughly. Good as new. 3) There are numerous comments here about the little silicone handles coming off easily (they do) and potentially getting lost (they did). The company has redesigned the cones now with a silicone ring that goes all around the top and attaches there securely. I contacted the vendor and asked if they could drop a couple of the handles in the mail to me, and instead they sent me the new updated rings! That's customer service! The quality of the product and customer service are top notch! I love these cones! ... show more

  • Sometimes it's the little things
Back in August I decided to purchase a pour over coffee cone after my disappointment in the choices for single cup coffee makers. I didn't like that most coffee makers required you to use/purchase a prefilled k-cup or pod which often resulted in a poor tasting cup of coffee. I even tried the aftermarket coffee ground attachments with disappointing results. I also didn't like that just about all coffee makers use plastic as one of the main materials. When I tried to find a coffee maker that used minimal plastic it was actually impossible to find one. I started doing some research and discovered the pour over coffee cones. Not knowing much I started looking around and eventually bought two from two different companies. One of the coffee cones I decided on was the Yitelle Coffee Cone. When they arrived I immediately took a liking to the Yitelle product. It was slightly larger than the other product and had a rubber grip and base which I found to be very important. The rubber base actually keeps the cone from sliding off the cup when pouring the hot water which I never considered when purchasing it. I constantly have to hold or readjust the other cone I purchased to prevent it from falling off the cup. I recently contacted Yitelle about an issue I was having with my cone and without hesitation they took care of my problem. I even received a hand written letter addressing the issue and apologizing for the inconvenience. I must say I was quite impressed with their service and the fact that the seller took the time to hand write the letter. Sometimes it's the little things that matter. I highly recommend this product and it does make one good cup of coffee. ... show more
