  • Fun Spring Break Project, Instructions Could Be Better
This little project turned out to be a great distraction during spring break for me and my eleven year old son. It took a grand total of about thirty minutes and the only help he required was assistance with initially screwing in the screws and completing them at the end to be flush. Instructions could have been better, as there were no words, but merely diagrams with what screws went in what location. Either way, we were able to navigate, flip around when needed and course correct without a lot of issues. The chain itself turned out to be a little off-kilter and will require a branch off the side of the tree in order to hang and enjoy. Will also require a layer of stain in order to preserve for more than a season, as the wood will eventually rot. Great little project that a child could literally perform with limited assistance. ... show more

  • It was a great purchase for a man beaten up by time.
Quick back story: My dad used to work in construction, an electrician, plumbing, the old school jack of all trades if you will. After many years of beating his body, multiple accidents and surgeries, he can't do all of these things anymore and is now considered disabled. He is even unable to drive. He sits at home and while we buy any and everything we can to keep him busy, and we do things every weekend to get him out of the house. When I can find anything DIY, I try to get it. Something that doesn't require major heavy tools, something he can do with his own strength, build with (or without) the instructions and then I ask him to build it for me for *insert reason*. He loves the DIY projects. He loves trying to put it together without the instructions and he's pretty good at figuring it out. I mean he used to be a contractor and work construction so it's pretty easy. This one was really fun for him. He tells a story about all the picnic tables he has built for his family and friends. I remember as a kid having like 6 picnic tables around our property and one was our dining room table. When I asked he build a picnic table for the squirrels, he was pretty excited! I mean, its not obviously as nice as what he used to build but he cannot lift the heavy wood and tools so this was a nice little alternative. I watched him put it together, pretty quickly. You could just see his mind thinking about it, laying out all the pieces, and quickly putting his puzzle together. He seriously gets excited! It is like it gives him a purpose. He knows he cannot work any more but he can do these small DIY builds, and it gives him something to work towards. He opted not to paint it because he says he doesn't paint well. I did cover it in lacquer because sitting out with nothing cover it, it won't last long in the wind and rain I gave this a 4 stars because my dad is not a strong man anymore. Life has been tough and his muscles are not very strong. He was screwing in the one piece of the table and it split the wood in half. He just glued it together but I thought the wood is maybe too soft for the project or not a good quality of wood? Maybe we got a piece that already had a crack in it? I'm not sure. I didn't think he screwed the screws that tight, especially to split the wood but I could be wrong. Either way, it was a good purchase. It gave my dad something to do and put his mind and body to a little work and he feels like he's doing me a huge favor and being helpful. ... show more

  • Gets a lot of attraction and was fun to assemble!!
This DIY squirrel feeder was not only a challenge for me but also fun. It is very cute and has not worn down. It attracts a large variety of animals and avians! The material in wood is excellent along with a satisfied price. I do suggest this as a fun family project. If you build it well with careful handling and assembly it will offer excellent stability in the near future! ... show more

  • Not the best, but also not the worst. Still cute and functional
I got the picnic table feeder for a project that me and my 11 year old could do together. It was fun to do, but a little frustrating. The picture instructions were not the worst I've encountered, but also not the best. I found it extremely helpful to label each wood piece beforehand. Even with this step you still have to be careful you are choosing the right piece as the only way you can tell which is left and right pieces is by a little tiny hole (which it doesnt show until 5 steps in). It would have been more helpful if it came with each wooden piece pre-labeled. Other than that, it was easy to put together. It was difficult to paint once it was put together, so if we did it again we would have painted before hand. There is only enough of a color to paint 1 or 2 pieces, so we ended up with multicolored feeder. If you want a specific look or 1 or 2 colors only, then get your own paint because there wont be enough provided. It is sturdy for now, I'm not sure how long it will hold up though with time. I definitely recommend a sealer coating so water doesn't rot the wood. It hung easy, and now the squirrels are ready for a picnic. ... show more

  • Cute and large bird feeder
This is a fun project for kids to build with supervision. It's surprisingly large. It's fairly sturdy, as well. The kit comes with a set of paints and that was fun to personalize it but the paints are hardly enough to paint one side each. It's stayed together quite well and the birds are getting used to it (after my dogs stopped being scared of it). ... show more
