My pastry cutter was old, like 70 years old. It was in the family before I was. It was still very sturdy, but the paint on the handle was all chipping off and getting into food. Based on its age it was probably lead based to boot. The newer pastry cutters I’ve seen just haven’t measured up to the quality of those from yesteryear. I took a chance on this one. I was thoroughly surprised when it arrived. The stainless steel is the right thickness, thick enough to be sturdy but not too thick that the blades don’t cut well. Being stainless steel they will not rust. The handle is curved slightly to fit your hand and has a little cushion for comfort. This really makes a difference when you are cutting hard cold butter into flour. I love baking pies so this will be a great help in that, but I use my pastry cutter probably more for other things like chopping eggs for egg salad and strawberries for over shortcake. It will get a good workout in my kitchen. I loved the idea pictured on the box it came in to use it for chopping nuts. What a timesaver with five blades to do the work over just one of a knife. Unfortunately, I didn’t like the results. Since the blades on the pastry cutter are not sharpened like that on a knife, they crushed the nut just a little and produced more fine chaff than using a butcher knife. I do keep my baking nuts in the freezer, so perhaps if they came to room temperature first it might produce a cleaner cut. Overall, I’m thrilled with this pastry cutter and highly recommend it, especially at this fantastic price.

Solid, well made pastry cutter - it should last for years. It has a comfortable, ergonomic handle and heavy-duty stainless cutting blades. Sometimes these things can be a little small for large "man hands", but that's not the case here - I'm looking forward to my first pie!

I had an old vintage pastry cutter with painted handles that I swore I’d never get rid of…….but then the paint started chipping and then flaking. I knew I would have to find something new. This one looked solid enough and I knew if it didn’t work out, I could always return it through Amazon. After using this Spring Chef cutter, now I swear I’ll never get rid of this one! This stainless steel pastry cutter isn’t sharp on the bottom but you don’t need sharp to blend flour/sugar/butter. You do need something substantial enough that it won’t bend and fits your bowl. This one fits the bill perfectly! This dough cutter easily blends butter into flour and/or sugar for baked goods. I know it can be used to chop nuts, fruits, veggies, etc. but mine will always be used for pastry purposes. This cutter seems larger than I’m used to but that’s fine. The rubber handle is soft and easy to chop with. From the photos, I thought the metal blade portion was fused or welded to the sides. Not so! This is one piece of metal fabricated to connect to the handle. It’s easy to clean, easy to use, quality steel, and the perfect substitute for my old favorite cutter. It doesn’t hurt that the price is right and dishwasher safe! If you need a pastry cutter, this one is great!

This is a stainless steel pastry cutter by Spring Chef. The first thing I noticed right out of the box was the quality. It is of excellent quality and looks and feels quite durable. It's a tiny bit larger and heavier than ones I've owned in the past but not enough to make it a negative. It's actually a great thing because makes it heavy duty and durable. It's comfortable to hold in your hand, without any discomfort at all and the handle feels very secure and sturdy. Being able to use it to cut or smash other foods like fruits, veggies and eggs and more makes it very versatile as well. That means it's going to get a LOT of use in my kitchen. I've already used it to cut some butter into seasoned flour, then turned the mixture into a rue for some gravy. It performed as expected and it actually cut down on time because I've been doing that with only a fork. The fork method takes much longer and causes hand cramps. It's well made, built to last and well worth the price.

This is a review for Spring Chef XL Stainless Steel Pastry Cutter Tool for Baking - Heavy Duty Dough Blender - Butter & Dough Cutter Tool with Sharp Blades - Pastry Blender for Easy Mixing - Dishwasher Safe - Black When I first unboxed this pastry blender, I was a little wary because it had a weird chemically odor from the handle. I decided to throw it in the dishwasher before first use. It came out clean without any obvious smells. For its maiden voyage, I used it to cut butter into a flour/brown sugar mixture for a delicious dessert I am newly enamored with. It worked beautifully!!! The tines are nice and sturdy and best of all, the handle is firm (not wiggly like my old one which was made by a well-known company). I'm really happy with this pastry cutter!
