I’m giving this product 5 stars because it’s a good value and works as it should. I have a zero clearance wood burning fireplace and was looking into options for increasing the efficiency of my current unit. It is 22 inches in the back, 34 inches in the front, and 17 1/4 inches from back to front and this 6 pipe model fits perfectly. It’s not a miracle product that has completely eliminated the need for my heat pump, but I do notice that my heat pump turns on significantly less when in use. I’ve had it 2 weeks and am very happy with it. The fan is a little noisy, but I don’t mind it considering the warmth I get. ... show more

  • Blends Well But Only Marginally Better Heating
Size: Large
This is the second set of fireplace exchange tubes I have bought from the same manufacturer through different companies. Both of them are used in gas fireplaces. The first one had the tubes that stuck up like a pipe organ and had a blower box go through all of them. That one had a little metal plate over all the tubes that also helped the air go outside the fireplace. That one works super well, but really takes over the whole fireplace and doesn't look that great. And even that one isn't like a blast furnace. It's a very slow incremental room heater. This one that just sits on the bottom and has the blower on the side to heat the tubes looks much better. As the pictures show, you can't even see it when all the decor is in front. However, this one doesn't work as well even with the fan on the highest setting. Yes, as the thermal image shows, there is hot air coming out of the tubes. But I think it is not very effective because this one blows from the bottom and the hot air just gets pulled back in up the chimney. In short, if you're looking for more functionality and don't care about looks, then I would go with the curved pipe version. If you prefer aesthetics over functionality then this is probably the better choice. Secondarily, the fan control is located by the power outlet. I ended up putting a zigbee controlled outlet before it to use a remote control to turn it on and off. Otherwise, it might not be very convenient to access, depending on where your power source is. ... show more

  • Great way maximize heat efficieny
Size: Medium
This item works very well, however, it does need to have a bit longer legs. I placed mine on firebrick. Much cheaper than an insert.

  • It makes the fireplace much more efficient.
Size: Medium
I was very satisfied with the heater. It puts out more heat and the blower is quiet. It is very easy to assemble.

  • Very satisfied
Size: Large
Read some critical reviews about this unit - but I'll tell you - it is working GREAT for us. We have a beautiful fieldstone fireplace and didn't want to go with a fireplace insert. The Spitfire definitely puts out a decent amount of heat. Its not in the same league as an insert as far as efficiency - but it makes a big difference. We have had ours for nearly two months and we have no complaints or regrets. ... show more

  • Great for a firelight or tiny fireplace
Size: Medium
The base is smaller than pictured. The heat tubes could be a few inches longer to reduce blowing fireplace smoke into the room and the base could be a few inches taller. If you have a very small fire, or use smokeless fire logs, this thing will b gr8.

  • Excellent product. A must have. Worth the money
Size: Large
We bought this 3+ years ago. It makes a huge difference! We have a 2500sq ft home and all rooms are big. This covers our living room, open kitchen, hallways & open dining room. We do close the other doors. Our electric bill used to be $600-700/mo in winter. I can now keep it around $450 or less. It has more than paid itself off. Pros & Cons: Pros - light weight & easy to remove to clean out the fire place The blower fan uses very little electric Game changer on electric bill Absolutely worth it! Cons: We had to modify it so it could function properly and so it wouldn’t start a house fire. The fan is a little loud, but it’s worth it. My husband added length onto the legs bc the pipe holes were lower than our bricks, so the hot air was just blowing onto the bricks. Now it’s tall enough to blow directly into the room. Later on, he had to add length to the front legs, making the pipes slant because we found that as the logs break down, anything that fell in front of the pipes would blow out & sometimes hot ashes & sparks would start blowing into the living room. As for the loud fan, my husband put it in the cabinet next to the fireplace and cut a hole for the outgoing pipe. He then cutout the other side of the cabinet & put a beautiful decorative cast iron vent cover over the hole in the cabinet so the fan can get to air & doesn’t burn up. The cons may make this questionable, but I promise if you’re a handyman & can make the necessary changes this is totally worth it!!! ... show more
