I'm not sure what kind of metal this thing is made from but it feels like steel but it has no iron in it ( it's not magnetic , i put a magnet on it to find out ) . It feels solid like steel but not heavy like most steel . It gets even better once I gave it a good spin . There's not 800 bearings like many inexpensive reels but it spun smoothly and turned 8 rotations with a good flick . I filled it with 10 pound Hercules braid and put it on a 4'6" Shakespeare Micro Series Ultralight . The balance is excellent and I'm sure this is going to be my BFS spinner combo to go with my BFS baitcaster combo . There was no documentation in or on the box of any kind . No exploded view , no nothing . That makes me think it's a " buyer be aware" scenario with a Radio Shack warranty (when it breaks that's the end of the warranty) but for under $20 if I get a season out of it that'll give me time to save up for a better one . This will be my creek wading setup because it's super light and casts like a dream , a sure help with casting accuracy using ultralight tackle. Edit . I took it out for a side by side using micro crankbaits and the reel blew me away at how well it performed . I was already familiar with the baitcaster combo in how it would perform but this reel held its own on a rod that was 18" shorter . ... show more

i received the reel in good condition inspected the reel it has a cast metal frame the gears are cast metal zinc coated the berrings are one pcc roller type the handle is metal with a plastic/metal screw-brass main shaft seems well made the rotating assembly is metal bail is metal has a real smooth action quiet feels good in the hand the reel did not come with any kind of paper work just a reel in a bag and a box,sent a message to seller same day response customer service is good all in all i am happy with this reel and im sure it will last a long time price is good for this reel compared to a Shimano just as good but this one has a metal frame as well i would buy it again ... show more

Great looking reel and works well too! When you unpackage you can feel the difference with the full metal body. Great drag on this and feels like it will last quite a few years. Looking forward to seeing how it goes with some ice fishing this winter.
