So many phone cases to choose from, and I picked this one because it wasn't ugly/gnarly (like OtterBox), and it had a flat back (instead of having a lip around the camera). It has worked great for 3.5 years, successfully protecting my phone from many falls, a couple even from ladders onto concrete. However, the about 3 years in, the matte/rubbery surface started to wear off, leaving a smooth, shiny, and hard plastic surface on the back and sides. A few more months in, and the plastic started coming apart around the power buttons. Now the plastic has started rapidly deteriorating, resulting in cracks at the corners and total loss of the case around the camera side of the phone. Time to get a new case! I feel this case provided a good value for the money, but wish it lasted longer. While the thickness isn't bad, I wish it were a bit thinner. There are two layers between the back of the phone and the back of the case, making the camera's protrusion recess about a millimeter inside the case. I wish this were less, so the camera was nearly flush with the back of the case--all that protection on the back of the phone seems unnecessary. ... show more

Best feature for me is the two piece design that allows sandwiching a thin metal plate in the proper location for magnetic mounting on a car dashboard, while retaining compatibility with wireless chargers outside the car. This prevents having to stick the plate on the outside of the case (less desirable), avoids the plate being recessed too deeply inside case to be effective, and requires no adhesive. Samsung's FAQ for the S21U approves of this combo configuration, and I was specifically looking for this ability in a case along with several other "standard" considerations. I've had this Spigen Tough Armor for a few weeks now. The reasonably thick TPU portion of the case, internal foam pads, and hard back seem to provide good protection, although I have not dropped the phone yet to prove it. The case is comfortable to hold and grippy, but not too much. Neither the TPU nor hard shell have picked up fingerprints, dust or scratches. It slides in and out of pocket easily. The buttons work very well, the phone audio is good, and there is no interference with the USB-C connection for any of the cables I've used, including a right-angle one I use in my truck. The performance of the S21 Ultra itself is phenomenal, and there have been no problems with WiFi, cellular or wireless charging. I'm glad to have a kick-stand again! It doesn't seem super sturdy, and works in landscape only, but I'm happy with it anyway. For most of the times I want the phone in upright portrait orientation, I'm using a wireless charging stand anyway. I also like the looks of this case. Both the symmetrical cutout for the camera bulge and the fact that it actually eliminates the bulge - so that the phone sits flat on its back - solve a couple of OCD issues for me and keep the camera lenses safely recessed. I don't like the stock shape of the S21U's signature bump. This case is pretty darn close to 5 stars, and priced for great value. But I do have two concerns: 1. The "raised lips" at top and bottom of screen are VERY low profile. They do keep the glass of the phone from touching a smooth table surface when laid on its face, but not by much! There are no lips on the sides of the case at all due to the curved edges of the display. So a drop is very likely to put some marks on the screen, or worse. 2. There is no place to store an S Pen. Since the phone itself offers no place for this, case makers are missing an opportunity to overcome this deficiency. Spigen, if you were to offer a version this Tough Armor case that solved these issues, it would be a perfect design and I would buy one plus a backup immediately. Update 9/12/22: This case has served me well for the past year and a half. The phone has survived a few drops, and it always bounces around a bit (dissipating shock; a good thing). There's not a scratch on the phone anywhere. The case itself has not picked up any scratches either. It remains grippy in the hand and still isn't bad to pick up dust or fingerprints. The magnetic mounting plate I added to the interior has worked perfectly in multiple vehicles. Sadly, I am retiring this case because I need one that holds the S Pen. There are a few of those available, but none that I like as well as this one, including those made by Spigen. ... show more

This case is quite nice. There are pros and cons however. Pros: the case feels slightly rubbery, which gives it a non slip design. This is nice so it's not just slipping off whatever surface I place my phone. It's bulky enough to feel as though the phone is protected, but slim enough to not add extra heft to an already large phone. The kickstand is nice, though I rarely use it. It's easy to get my phone in and out, but isn't loose. It fits securely. The material is very nice and feels very durable. Con: there's only one. The lip around the screen is so small that I'm not actually sure if it is raised higher than the screen at all. I've done several examinations of it, but I still don't know that it actually has any protection for around the screen. If it does, it's very minimal. For that reason, I'm still looking for another case, one that will have the same protection as this does for the back, but will also have a decent amount for around the screen. ... show more
