Description

The jack of all trades in the saltwater realm, Shimano redesigned the Spheros SW series of saltwater spinning reels to conquer both offshore and inshore waters. Now featuring Shimano's flagship Infinity Drive technology to improve pinion gear support and enhance the overall drive gear design, Spheros SW provides anglers with increased winding power under load when cranking against hard-fighting game fish. Wielding both X-Protect and X-Shield for improved water resistance for increased durability in the harsh saltwater environment, Spheros SW fortifies an IPX8 water-resistant-rated body. Now available in seven different sizes, the new 14000 and 18000 sizes span the gap between 10000 and 20000 models for a broader range of applications within the Spheros SW series of reels. From jigging for groupers or amberjacks, to tossing lures at cobia and football-size bluefin tuna, or free-lining live bait to snook or striped bass, the Spheros SW series will provide dependable performance for anglers targeting prized game fish.

  • It's a keeper ! ! ! ! ! !
Size: Gear Ratio: 5.6:1 | Size: 8000
Very nice reel. It's a keeper for sure. Smooth and solid. Got the 8000 for crab snaring.

  • Returned my Saragosa
Size: Gear Ratio: 5.7:1 | Size: 6000
I was torn between these reels, a Spheros and Saragosa of the same size, so I bought both, and after a few weeks of fishing, I realize there's very little difference between these reels at least at the 6,000 size. I know I haven't spent much time on these reels, but here's my observation so far. I've fished both reels every day for that period, both on a medium heavy rod and heavy rod, and I gotta say, I felt very little difference between the two, I was able to battle pretty much the same fish with no noticeable difference, which made me realize one thing that I had been pondering that whole time, whether it was worth keeping the Saragosa, which is double the price.. Basically, I fish a 3,000, 4000, 6000, and really want a 18000 or so for my heavy rod, and honestly, it feels like the 6,000 Spheros is just as good as a saltwater reel as the Saragosa, but half the price. At the 18000 range, the Spheros is about $200 and Saragosa is around $300, which - at that point, might be a better buy given it'll be used in deep waters and bigger fish - but given that the 6000 versions are just as good, I could kinda assume the 18000 is just as good too, but if money weren't a thing, the 18000 at $300 might be the way, but overall, at least as far as 6,000 goes, if money matters to you, I can personally vouch for the Spheros over the Saragosa at least up to 6,000. Don't get me wrong, Saragosas are absolutely awesome, probably the best you'll get at that price range, besides maybe a BaitRunner, but the next step up really is Twin Power & Stellas. ... show more

  • Strong, Smooth, and Beautiful Shimano Spinning Reel
Size: Gear Ratio: 4.9:1 | Size: 10000
I own several of the 4000 and one 8000 series. The 10000 rounded out my saltwater spinning tackle package and allows me to target larger species saltwater fish with confidence. The reel is smooth as silk and looks great paired with a 7’ dark matter rod. I highly recommend the Spheros line of Shimano reels to anglers looking for a budget friendly yet very well built Shimano spinning reel. ... show more

  • This fully sealed reel is by far the best bang for your buck.
Size: Gear Ratio: 5.7:1 | Size: 18000
Excellent reel. Basically a Saragosa minus the bottom drag stack. Easily the most full featured and fully sealed reel at anywhere close to this price point. I use the 18k for brown sharks off the beach in cape cod and the reel has done beautifully without any hiccups. Spool is huge and drag is smooth. Unbeatably priced workhorse. ... show more

  • Shimano quality
Size: Gear Ratio: 6.2:1 | Size: 5000
Great reel, well built and heavy duty. This is a manual bail reel so you have to flip the bail by hand.Smooth drag and 30 lb braided line casts well.Caught a bunch of striped bass on it with no issues. My only complaint which kept my review from 5 stars is the stem is a bit short and line roller smacked my knuckles a few times. ... show more

  • It works fine but a little less smooth then expected
Size: Gear Ratio: 5.7:1 | Size: 6000
Feels like it’s already been used but at least the delivery is fast

  • Strong Saltwater Spinning Rod
Size: Gear Ratio: 5.6:1 | Size: 8000
I've used Penn and Shimano reels for many years, and have moved to Shimano for heavy duty spinning duty. This reel was a replacement for the same model that was sent out for repairs - used primarily for catching red grouper on a 15-30lb rod. We usually fish in 70-90', use 6-8 ounce weights, and this reel is sufficient to handle the weight. There is a lot of strain on the reel when trying to force a grouper off the bottom, and this reel is up to the challenge. I used my Stradic 8000 while waiting for delivery, and it really was not up to the task. ... show more

  • Defective out the box!
Size: Gear Ratio: 5.7:1 | Size: 6000
The media could not be loaded. Defective out the box! Went to mount it on the rod and spool up some line and the bail will not flip back over. I am starting to think this Seller is reselling repaired or B line product.
