  • There's just ONE THING ...
Overall build quality is good, but there is one important thing to pay attention to. I have appended a photo of the lower radiator transmission oil cooler tube from the factory original radiator. Note that the end of the tube has a smooth rounded chamfer. The corresponding tube on the CU1193 does not, it is square cut and deburred only, see product photo above. If used as is, chances are good that during attempted reinstallation of the oil cooler line, the internal o-rings (there are 2, with a plastic ring separating them) of the bell shaped fitting will be shoved out of position or damaged. Of course, replacements for those small but critical items are unavailable, and you will need to replace the entire oil cooler line (ask how I know). Fortunately the tube on the CU1193 is attached to the radiator by a flare fitting which can be taken apart easily (before you install the radiator). The factory radiator tube cannot be removed, so this is an improvement. Use sandpaper or a file to create a rounded chamfer on the new tube, and clean it before reattaching to the new radiator. Grease the tube before attempting to reattach the oil cooler line. Go in straight and rotate a little as needed, but do not wiggle side to side. If it is stubborn, find an appropriate size open end wrench or adjustable wrench, to loosely grab the narrow part of the bell fitting and rest on the shoulder of the wider bell. Tap the wrench with a mallet to push the bell towards the tube. Remember the tube is screwed into a plastic tank, so don't go overboard here. You will know when the tube is properly seated in the bell fitting, as there will be a click as the 4 prongs of the spring retainer ride over the rib on the tube and grab hold. If you need to slide the bell off the tube during several attempts, closely examine the innards of the bell with flashlight to make sure the o-rings haven't been dislodged from their proper position (from innermost to outer - o-ring, plastic ring, o-ring, plastic bushing sleeve, spring retainer) before each re-insertion. If the lower oil cooler connection was the same type as the upper, things would be a lot easier. ... show more

  • Beware the Warranty
Good: Price was right = 1 star It fit perfectly and no problem on cooling so far = 1 star. Bad: Reliability: Plastic cracked below the radiator cap after about 4 months of mild weather driving = 0 star 2 yr warranty is worthless: The fine print says you must return the old one, prove a prove a professional installation, and a few other things that anyone doing their own work will not be able to do. (How many people actually buy a part on Amazon to save a little $ then pay a mechanic?) = 0 star Customer service: Amazon return window expired, and the seller website does not have a customer service or warranty link, only a "contact us" e-mail to sales, tech support and other non-applicable departments like "careers". = 0 star ... show more

  • 8,000 miles to Alaska. Buy it.
I rebuilt a 1997 Cherokee XJ and drove it 8,000 miles to the Alaska North Shore and back from the lower 48 in 10 days. As part of the preparation I installed this Sprectra unit. I was skeptical for the price but WOW this is a great part at a great price! 1,000 miles of my trip was off road with no cell reception and no service stations. I needed something of utmost reliance and this Spectra radiator got the job done. I replaced the water pump with a $20 GMB water pump, a 195 degree Standt thermostat, and gates hoses. Jeep likes to run right at about 200 degrees. I put over $6,000 of quality parts into the Jeep for the trip excluding labor and this is the radiator I chose. All the fancy triple core aluminum radiators just didn’t have the reviews this one had. Buy it and have peace of mind. It’s simple. I trust it. If it fails buy a second one for the price of dinner for two. ... show more

  • Pleasantly surprised. Great radiator for the price!
2000 Cherokee (XJ) with 4.0 L engine. Owned since new. Stock radiator gave out after about six years, and I've been through several radiators since then. Bought this one to replace a CSF all-metal three-pass. The CSF cooled way better than stock. That one was great while it lasted, but it leaked after about eighteen months. Figured I'd throw in a cheap Spectra until I could get something better, but this one is still going strong after more than five years. Cools nearly as well as the CSF. I have to remove the radiator soon to do another job and will probably replace it with another Spectra proactively. At this price, why not? ... show more

  • Perfect fit and function
I used this radiator to convert my closed cooling system (1987 AMC Jeep Comanche 4.0L) to the later model open system, found in 91 up Cherokee. Fitment is perfect. If converting to open system, use early model top radiator hose. I've included a picture of the top hose installed to show why that's correct. The original core support does NOT require modifications of any kind. There's room for the filler neck already The dirty streak, running down the passenger side of the radiator is from a heater hose that leaked during 'ops check'. **Reused parts: rubber isolators on bottom of old core, and radiator/core support** Bleepin Jeep 's YouTube channel has a great video on converting to the open cooling system ... show more

  • does NOT fit into 2000 jeep cherokee XJ
in our fleet we have several xj cherokees. Last year we put a CU1193 in one. It has the tapered tank which has the clearance to fit into the vehicle. Today, the radiator amazon sent has a tank 1-3/8 bigger than the CU1193. This is obstructed by the body of the vehicle. Thus the pins won't align in the mount holes. The product description shows the tapered tank on the inlet side. The amazon product photo shows the correct radiator for the XJ, but amazon sent a different radiator with the huge tank. Therefore product description is false, vehicle fitment is false. ... show more
