  • I’m quite fond of these, however…
Flavor Name: Strawberry
I'm somewhat of a new Soylent user. I’ve only been consuming them for about a month now, however I already feel that it has changed my life drastically for the better. I'm compelled to share my experience with others who are interested in trying this. I have an unhealthy relationship with food. When I experience stress (which is often), I lose my appetite. Sometimes I'll go an entire day and fail to realize that I didn't eat that day until night. Soylent how allowed me to introduce nutrients and calories into my diet so that I'm not accidentally stress-starving myself. I’m quite fond of the consistency and texture, which is extremely smooth and non-chalky. These taste absolutely wonderful, although a bit sweet for my liking. It's not sweeter than other comparable products on the market or regular protein powder, but it is still very sweet. These drinks are different in that they taste more like something that you would leisurely consume, not a meal replacement drink or protein shake you force yourself to drink. However, be aware of the ingredients. This contains Maltodextrin and sucralose. If you do your research, you'll see that there are many side effects including digestive issues, change in digestive enzymes, eventual gluten intolerance, increased risk for people w diabetes etc etc etc. I mention this because I am a healthy 24 year old with no preexisting conditions, but Soylent has STILL given me a lot of stomach issues/pain (only banana and vanilla). Yes, the products have not expired and are in good condition. Apparently there was a formula change a few years back, and many people did not like this change to Maltodextrin and sucralose. Finally, I have tried six flavors so far and I would rate them in the following order from best to worst: 1. Strawberry & Mint Chocolate - I am normally not a huge fan of strawberry things, but this is great. The strawberry is light, subtle, and refreshing; it's not overpowering like many strawberry flavored things usually are. Iv seen some people complain that the flavor is too faint, I enjoy that it’s light. My partner describes the taste as “the cereal milk left behind after eating Trix cereal,” which he loves. The strawberry is a less vanilla-y version of the vanilla, if that makes sense. As for mint chocolate, I normally love mint flavored things. Mint chocolate is wonderful, it tastes like mint chip ice cream; rich and smooth, but not in an overpowering way. The balance between mint and chocolate is absolutely perfect, Gordon Ramsey would be pleased. Much better than creamy chocolate in my opinion. Mint choc is a less chocolate-y version of the creamy choc. 2. Vanilla - tastes like vanilla soymilk; light and refreshing; classic and timeless taste. This (and I assume the Original flavor as well) would be excellent to use with cereal or oatmeal. However, this along with banana give me stomach pain. 3. Creamy Chocolate - tastes straight up like chocolate milk (in the most magical way). This was the first Soylent flavor I tried and I was hooked with the first sip. It's rich, smooth, and very chocolatey. However, I'm not a huge fan of super-chocolatey things generally, hence why this is third. This is subjective. This could easily be top two if I were a chocolate fanatic. 4. Cafe Mocha - also subjective, I am not a fan of coffee flavored things. I switched to tea years ago, so this was overpowering for me. I think that for regular coffee drinkers, this would be great. If I still drank coffee then I would definitely like this. 5. Banana - I'm not sure how but this is the absolute worst flavor. And I normally love banana bread and other banana flavored things. The first sip made me feel nauseous and a lot of things all at once; it almost tastes festive and like the winter holidays, in an overpowering, artificial, and terrible way. Banana is subtle at first; it tastes like cinnamon and banana cream. This one is the sweetest one and I can't stand it. This also gives me the most stomach issues along with vanilla. Banana is going straight in the trash, never to be purchased again. ... show more

  • Not bad at all
Flavor Name: Mint Chocolate
I lost my sense of taste and smell a few years back (unrelated to the pandemic), and have been searching for something I could eat or drink without thinking and fulfill my nutritional requirements. Funnily enough, Reddit sent me to Soylent, and I haven't looked back since then. The consistency is a bit like a protein shake or eggnog, so expect something thicker than water but easy to drink. I can't attest to the flavor despite the review forcing me to add something, but my friends and family all enjoy it, so I'd say that's a positive review right there. ... show more

  • The original remains an important staple
Flavor Name: Original
Although I prefer drinking the vanilla or chai Soylent varieties, I sometimes go back to the classic RTD bottle to remind me how important it was for my journey. I never would've tried the powder form, which is my actual favorite blend, had it not been for the little white bottles all of a sudden available on Amazon. I was starting to struggle with chewing and swallowing actual food due to my progressed state of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and drinking the sugary Ensures just seemed like something I shouldn't do long-term. I was aware of Soylent, but never got the nerve to try it until the day I saw the RTD bottle. I drank it expecting for it not to be too enjoyable, but doable, but I grew to love it after my 3rd or 4th one. Since then, I mainly use both the chocolate and original powders, but I always have a variety of the RTD bottles on hand for trips or a variety break. I get 75% of my daily calories, vitamins, minerals, and protein from Soylent now, and I've done so for the last 3 years. I know I'm getting a much healthier diet today than I was, and overall my body feels better with what I'm doing these days. I'm always excited to try out new flavors (I jumped on the Nectar train right when it was ending, unfortunately) but I'm always pleased when I go back to the original that started it all for me! ... show more
