There are some things I love about this sofa, and two things I do not. LOVES: - Easy to put together (I was able to put it together myself even though they suggest two people) - Large (big enough for two full grown adults) - Communication (company answers e-mails in a timely fashion and is very polite!) - Comfy (great for lounging, reading, work, watching movies, etc.) DISLIKES: - Design flaw: When the supplemental bed portion of the sofa is extended, there is a gap between that part and the rest of the sofa, as you can see in the pictures attached. I contacted South Shore and they sent me a lovely e-mail apologizing and stating that this IS part of the design of the sofa, but they hope to fix it in the future. We got this sofa not just for visitors but because my husband occasionally likes to sleep in the living room if he gets home late, so this makes it less convenient for that purpose. - The base of the storage box is not actually connected to the rest of the sofa. You place a plastic liner inside the opening of the sofa, and it rests on the floor.

This couch is way overpriced for what it is. There's a lack of QA checks, the design is flawed, and customer service is too hesitant to ship out replacements for defective parts. Cons (where do I start?): - BOTH the armrests were defective and unable to be attached to the rest of the couch. When I called customer service they shipped out one replacement armrest without any issues, but for the second one they still haven't agreed to ship out a replacement (it's been a week since I first contacted them about it). They asked for pictures of the defect, but even after I sent those over, they're still "assessing" which part is defective. If they don't know which part is defective based on my pictures, they should've just asked for more (but they didn't). I don't know what kind of deliberation they've been doing for the past week honestly. I've called them twice and have been emailing them back and forth but no conclusion yet. - When the couch is pulled out there's a HUGE gap between the pull out part and the chaise. I can literally fit my entire arm in there. Will definitely need a thick mattress topper to be able to sleep on it. Apparently this was an intentional design decision, although I'm not sure what kind of thought process led them to this decision. "Sure let's leave a few inch's gap between the chaise and the pull out. People hate beds without large gaps in them". - The back rest behind the couch cushions is too short. You basically can't leave a gap between the couch and the wall behind it, otherwise leaning back comfortably is impossible. So if your couch won't be touching a wall, don't buy this. - The seats are pretty hard but apparently they're supposed to soften up with use, so still holding out on that one. - The pull out part wobbles back and forth a little bit, which could be an issue if you toss and turn while you sleep. Pros: - Ignoring the quality check issues and the design flaw, the build quality of the rest of the couch is decent. I think this couch can withstand a few moves without falling apart. - If the armrests weren't defective the couch would have been easy to assemble. - The wait time for customer service is pretty short. Although ideally I shouldn't need to deal with them at all. Honestly I bought this couch since it was marketed as made in the US, but maybe I should've bought a China made couch instead.

This arrived in two large heavy boxes 4 days after I ordered it. The boxes require two strong people to move. It is great--I put it together by myself--very easy--dealing with the packaging took about an hour, and assembly took about an hour. Other reviewers have pointed out that there is a gap when you pull out the trundle. I don't think it's a big deal (when I lie down on it I hardly notice) but if it bothers you, you can stick a piece of soft foam in it. (I doubt that the designers are going to address this--it results from the trundle being smaller than the part of the couch that goes over it because the couch has a leg to support it. Both as a couch and bed, it is really on the firm side which I like, so if you want to sink deeply into your couch this is not for you. (To soften it as a bed you could buy a mattress topper, but since it's for my mother in law I will keep it as is.) Couches generally get less firm over time, so this one has lots of leeway in that regard. The couch itself is only about 21" tall at the arm rests and the back is 24" tall. The pillows add an additional 9" in height so it peaks at about 33" with the pillows. It is super easy convert into a bed (or leg rest) and back, requiring almost no strength ( my 5 year old can do it), and only about 30 seconds. The storage is ample, which is great. The feel of the fabric is durable--not super soft, but not rough enough to bother me either. We are a family of 4 (two small children) and we fit on it just fine. We would even squeeze another close friend in for movie night. Overall, its a great value. If you want to pay thousands of dollars more you might do a bit better, but I have absolutely no complaints.

This couch is a great value for the money. I was looking for a couch that could fit through my tiny narrow Brooklyn apartment door and this one fit the bill. When it arrived it was very very hard which was concerning but after about a month of use its become very comfortable. I especially love the storage where I can put blankets and pillows for guests. Additionally, it is SO easy to pull the sleeper portion out that we often wind up doing this on the regular to watch movies and not just when we have guests. Really cannot emphasize the ease enough! The one big issue with this item though is what other users have mentioned is that when the sleeper portion is pulled out there is a big gap in between one of the cushions. Definitely a manufacturing issue. Also the sleeper is really not that comfortable for guests so we wound up buying a mattress topper which made it great! All in all, some issues but it was exactly what we needed for a few years for our apartment (before we move to a real home and buy a real sofa/couch) and if you dont mind dealing with them, this is a good purchase.
