I was so excited to find this book. I wanted to find out how to make sourdough for a while now. I always thought it was a lengthy process, and it is, but it seems simple with only two ingredients to get started. The instructions in this book are clear and very thorough. I highlighted a bunch of the specific details. I learned a lot such as sourdough requires four things, flour, water, time, and patience. I enjoyed the stories at the end about people making sourdough and was surprised at the multiple uses and recipes for sourdough bread. I really found this book great for a beginner, for something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’ve bought the supplies and am going to take the specific details I collected from this book and get started. Best yet there are helpful hints if the starter doesn’t go as planned and I think I’m ready to tackle this now. A great, helpful book. ... show more

If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at sourdough, this book has a lot to offer—but be prepared for a bit of a learning curve. The introduction feels a little overwhelming with technical terms and too many options that might confuse a beginner. The suggestion to keep your starter in a vehicle for warmth feels a bit odd—there are probably better alternatives. The instructions are detailed but can come off as a bit scattered, making the process harder to follow for those new to baking. That said, the recipes included look fantastic, and if you can push past the initial setup, there’s a lot of potential here for making some really great sourdough creations. ... show more

  • Complicated for a "beginner"

I bought this book because creating sourdough bread was on my retirement bucket list. Initially I thought this would be idea. However, as I got into the book, I realized that there was way too much in the book about the Science of sourdough (I personally didn't need it to be that extensive). In addition, the steps to create the bread was so very long an complicated. My daughter-in-law makes wonderful sourdough bread and was able to explain it/demonstrate it in much easier terms. ... show more
