This is a good kit for baking bread for a beginner like I am. I really like how there’s both a round and an oval basket for all my bread proofing needs. The bread lame and cleaning brush are also good to have. I took off a star for the scrapers though. The plastic scraper isn’t a good shape for scraping dough out of a bowl- it’s not rounded. The metal scraper would be fine but when I hand washed it, orange dye came out of the handle.

Great baking kit for beginner sourdough bakers that want to make fancy or decorative bread. The bowls are a great size to make one loaf of bread perfectly. Follow the included instruction and you should have a beautiful loaf of bread to impress friends and family. The bowls are well constructed and if cared for should hold up well. They do feel really light but can't see any reason they would need to be heavy. Also included is a metal scraper, plastic scraper and a tool to clean the grooves in the bowls should you choose to use them without the cloth covers. Nice set for the creative baker!

I loved this item so much I had to go and buy another one for a Christmas gift for one of my loved ones! It works great and has been very easy to clean. I love that it comes with all the accessories you need to shape and score your dough!

I am quite pleased with the contents received. This item would be a good starter kit to give as a gift because it included lots of auxiliary items for making beautiful artisan breads. With that said, my new round/boule basket is stained and seemingly ruined, so I will share my mistakes. I’ve wanted a set of Banneton baskets for a long time, but I don’t make enough bread in a single batch to actually use a 9” basket for rising. I’d used proofing baskets with other bakers previously, but never owned my own set. After ordering my new baskets I excitedly went about scouting out a new bread recipe so I could test the new baskets before baking for 25+ guests over the holidays. Mistake #1: I didn’t “season” my new basket before use. A few days before you plan to use a proofing basket for the first time you should treat/season it to prepare it for the process of releasing dough. To treat: spray basket with tap water, dust with flour, tap out excess flour and let dry to form a light crust. Some people prefer to use a flour + water paste and a pastry brush but in either case, perform this process twice over 2 days then ensure you’ve let it dry completely (about 24 hours) before use. Mistake #2: Trusting the recipe writer knew what they were doing, and perhaps even worse, I followed their directions literally (not applying what I already knew). I tried a new recipe that included ingredients I hadn’t previously included in my bread making journey, including pumpkin puree and fresh cranberries that have permanently stained my new basket. Mistake #3: Not ensuring that the gluten was ready to be moved into the basket. To properly behave in a proofing basket your dough needs to have structure to the protein strands that are on the outside/basket face. Per the recipe directions, I turned my dough into the basket without taking two crucial steps: building the strength of the outer gluten layer via pre-shaping it into a ball then resting the ball 30 minutes to create a slightly dry crust. I compounded this mistake by trying to level the top of the dough once it was in the basket. All of my baking tools eventually show that they have been well loved, and they will show damage from use. I’m not happy that my new basket looks the way it does after the first use, but I’m chalking that up as just my latest bread making learning experience. I can recommend this set, and think it is a good value for someone who needs all the accessories to make artisan breads. I've reduced to 4* because I already had everything but the baskets, so the set was priced at a premium for my purposes.

This sourdough bread baking kit has everything one needs (except a recipe) to bake bread. It has two bannetons that support baking batard or boulet loaves. When I first started baking, I would have loved to find a kit like this because it also includes a lame (and extra blades), bench scraper, bowl scraper, and a brush for cleaning excess from the bannetons (I used a toothbrush for the longest time). The bannetons are well made and smooth with no rough edges and come with liners if desired. This is an excellent sourdough bread baking kit and is also a great value.
