    • The secondary Comfort air pump is great - sets it apart from other mattresses

This mattress inflates easily, stays inflated and is very comfortable. The best part is the secondary Comfort air pump which senses when the mattress needs some air and automatically adds some air to top off the mattress, resulting in it staying nicely firm and inflated. The company has great customer service and will work with you for any problems. My first mattress was great and the Comfort air pump worked perfectly in automatically topping off the mattress when it needed it...but then the pump just stopped kicking in. The red light would sometimes faintly flicker and there was sometimes a faint sound but it would not add air, the pump was just dead. So had to manually add air, and then would wake up in the middle of the night on a sagging mattress and have to again manually inflate it/add air which you shouldn't have to do (waking up to do that was a true hassle and worse yet couldn't get back to sleep!). So they sent me a replacement (I discarded the nonworking original). Unfortunately the replacement mattress had an overwhelming plastic smell that did Not dissipate with time despite airing it out for weeks. Called them about the persistent smell and they sent another replacement mattress, which we really appreciate. Despite a few hiccups it's still the best air mattress I've ever had and the secondary Comfort air pump is the bomb, for keeping it inflated. They really want you to be happy with your mattress and they honor their warranty/guarantee. Great company and great customer service! ... show more

    • Amazing customer service, unique firmness feature

As a few of the other reviewers, I too had an issue with my queen size mattress. In my case, the secondary pump was making a loud squealing sound, despite the primary pump working just fine and the bed holding air decently well. I knew from my previous purchase that the firmness pump should be nearly silent so I decided to call customer service at the company directly. I spoke to a very pleasant woman named Casey who was able to help me out. I purchased the bed for a road trip and going through the normal Amazon return process would not work. She was very understanding and made an exception to their normal policy to get me squared away. I appreciate the great customer support and understanding, while also looking forward to a great air mattress. My previous experience with this model of mattress allows me to comment on some of the features. The secondary pump, which maintains the level of firmness should not run 24/7, and it should be nearly silent. Perhaps a low rumble when sleeping. I found it to be rather soothing, but if someone was an extremely light sleeper they might need a disable this feature. That being said it has a really good job keeping the mattress pressure exactly where you want it. Overall the mattress is very comfortable and if you want that firm support you can definitely get it to the point where it's uncomfortably firm. Luckily it just takes a twist to the dial and you can bring it down to whatever you enjoy. I must admit that the mattress is quite expensive, but at the same time it's well made, and the customer service is rock solid. The latter has a lot of intrinsic value right off the bat. Great bed -- very comfortable and user friendly, and feels better for my back pain than my new $1,800 coil mattress! I've only had this bed a few weeks, having replaced a competing brand that had served us well for years but had a slow leak and was very low to the ground. I've had an issue with back and hip pain for a few months -- pinched nerve I think -- and I have been trying various options. We ordered a new primary bed once I realized through experimentation that my bed was a significant part of the issue with the pain – when I avoid sleeping in that bed the pain and numbness was dropping from 7/10 to 1/10. I was on our spare air bed after realizing this but the deflation was a problem so I ordered this one seeing good reviews on Amazon and needing a quick fix while waiting for the new coil mattress to come in. I liked the reviews and that it was higher off the ground. I ordered this and it arrived with usual Amazon speed -- two days and it was here, and whoa! It's very well built, has a very neat (and quiet) backup pump that keeps it right at the firmness setting selected 24/7 (and it has three firmness settings -- just set setting, turn it on and it fills and stops automatically). And, I love that it's much higher off the floor than a traditional air mattress -- more like a normal bed. And, most importantly, it feels even better on my back than the new coil mattress (which has now arrived). I've been sleeping solely on this for a couple of weeks and it's very comfortable, seemingly my choice for relatively good comfort and avoiding the back-pain issue. I like it better than our primary coil bed we just paid $1,800 for, which, unfortunately, still causes me back pain. I may be replacing that bed soon, ugh, but nice to know that for now I have this and I am happy and not in pain. I figured all these pluses warrant a good review and five stars, so I’m giving them. I will update if my experience or opinion changes but for now, wow, more than I expected from a backup air mattress… don't hesitate to buy it. P.S. Like any rubber-based manufactured item, it has a slight rubber smell for the first day or two but 1-2 others that have commented complaining about this are unduly sensitive in my opinion. It's not bad even day one and not even noticeable by any person of normal sensitivity after a day or two. If you've been on a Casper - a good, highly rated foam-based mattress - you know what a chemical smell is. That's 10X, or more, than the smell of this for the first week or so. ... show more

SoundAsleep is such a great company. The CloudNine is by far the best air mattress I've ever owned. It's comfortable and as good or better as a traditional bed. The auto inflation feature is amaazing and I don't ever have to worry about it being underinflated. Finally, when the first one encountered a bulge, SoundAsleep promptly shipped out a new mattress to me no questoins asked. So very happy to support this business and their products! ... show more
