UPDATE! If the free spool lever doesn't release when you start reeling you NEED to oil it! I came across reviews mentioning the lever "broke" and after such experience it jist needs some thin oil, like reel oil. Very smooth and precise gears. The drag lever is convenient for loose drag. Feels premium, I even coated mine in ceramic coating made for cars because I want it to last a while. The packaging was subpar, mine had smudges all over and did not come with the secondary spool as advertised. I've used it 15 or so times as of writing in saltwater. If it rusts I'll share pictures of the inside. All in all, the reel is a 5, the buying experience was a 2 and I'd reorder or recommend for sure.

Bought a pair of these as inexpensive "journeyman" type reels, for freshwater carp fishing. So far they have performed well in that capacity. Points of note: -- I use these only for freshwater carp and catfish fishing -- I have been using these for only 3 months so am waiting to see how they might perform over longer timespans (might post an update.) -- I do not use the rear drag mechanism (only the front) so cannot comment on its performance or robustness. Pros: the exterior seems solidly constructed (haven't yet pulled them apart to examine/service the inner workings); spool comfortably takes 300yds of .23mm braided line; baitrunner mechanism works well; good price to use as a utility reel to save the life of more expensive reels Cons: the spool skirt needs to extend a little lower as tangles beneath the spool can occur with slack line at the reel, particularly with monofilament (we all love untangling 20 yds of line wrapped round the spool axle at the bank, so the makers added that feature gratis); an option to buy with a spare spool would be useful; drag click is a little quieter than some reels, but this isn't a major issue for me as mostly I use electronic alarms So far I have landed carp and catfish up to 15lb and the reels performed well.

Man I got two of them and honestly it give the Penn fierce live liner a run for they money I have the Penn fierce 8000 as well long story $159 for the Penn and I got dis one for $40 on Black Friday witch I use and bought another a week later I promise u want regret it I use it for garfish and cat fish and bull red baitrunner just make it so dependable and easy I love it I will buy another before the summer come just to have on standby

Paired it with Daiwa 10ft Black Widow telescopic carp rod. Great balance and feel. Primarily purchased to catch carp in deeper parts of a large urban lake in winter months and the combo is fantastic. So good I just purchased my second one with the same rod. Am no expert caster but I’d say am getting out well past 80 or 90 yard. Definitely seeing the difference from my other sub 8ft rods. Spools great with 20lb braid and looks bomb!

Bought two of these, baitrunner stripped out on one after just a few trips out. The second one the handle broke off after only a couple weeks. Don’t waste your money just spend the extra on something nicer

I usually look for higher end used fishing gear, but needed an extra reel. I like reels with the Baitrunner feature, and I'm usually doing deep ocean rockfish, bonita, yellowtail, etc... Tried this one, and was very impressed. It's not perfect, but it's as good as anything else I use. It's smooth, seems to do the job and feels nice. I ended up buying a second one, and will keep trying to use them for my main spinning setups. I'm very happy so far. We will see how long they last on salt water use. ---UPDATE--- After just one use, now the reverse lock lever doesn't work and the Baitrunner clutch lever does not disengage when you reel it. Not sure what's up with them, but so far, if this is what happens to them normally, I'll be back here leaving a worse review. I've seen other reviews mention that support structure piece under the spool that some have complained their line gets wrapped around and caught under the gears. I have also notice that this could happen, but it seems only an issue if you have brand new line on the reel that has no flex or memory and wants to fall off the reel anyway. And as long as you keep a little tension on everything, it will never be a problem. Like most fishing gear, if used properly, it usually works properly. Sometimes it takes a little practice. I'm way more concerned about the basic levers and locks that aren't working after just one use though. UPDATE - After 1 year I dropped it in the water, fully submerged in the Pacific Ocean. It was under water for about 20 minutes. It worked for the rest of the day, but that was it. next time it was frozen solid and then it broke. It sort of worked okay with the occasional levers not working all the way often. I caught a bunch of fish with it over the year. I have a second one, and it still mostly works. I may get one more just because how cheap they are, and they DO work okay at first. I might dip it in oil or something before taking it out on the salt water the first time. They seem to fail really fast if you get any salt water in them.
