  • Great Reel for Moderate Size Catfish
Size: SA6000
I originally wrote that this is a great reel for catfishing, but these days that actually means something else (haha). Anyway, this is a great reel for fishing for moderate sized catfish. No, it probably can't handle monster blues and flatheads, but can definitely handle the 7-10lb channels and whites that I typically see in my neighborhood lakes/ponds. The baitrunner feature is great for using a live bluegill/float, and letting it do its thing while I then look for bass. I've also caught 6-7lb bass on this with the same live bluegill bait. I paired it with a Shimano FX 7' MH fast action fiberglass rod and it works well. It's a rod I already had and I didn't feel the need to buy a newer expensive rod for such an inexpensive reel. ... show more

  • pretty great reel for the price
Size: SA4000
this is not bad reel for what it is i have actually enjoyed using it to be honest. i really like the added carbon spool it comes with i can really feel the weight difference, i wasn't sure at first that i would but it's a nice feature i'm just not use to getting as a bonus. It has been nothing but smooth reeling so far, have not had any issues with the drag and can cast a mile. it does have one switch i haven't really got the hang of and never seen before i must admit. it seems to have something to do with adding a slight drag when the spool is open while bait fishing maybe? i'm not positive and the add doesn't tell nor does the surprisingly good instructions this would be great for a beginner aside from that weird switch and no not the one for free reel its just below that near the base, ... show more

  • Nice quality reel
Size: SA6000
Great value on a nice quality reel. Smooth action, a bit heavy to hold, but works very well. Great addition to my fishing gear.

  • cheap baitrunner style spinning reel
Size: SA7000
This arrived to my door well packaged and complete with a second plastic spool for it. My first impression is that this is a walmart/economy grade reel with some features found on higher end reels. It is mostly plastic in construction, and has a considerable amount of flex in some areas. That's not to say it cant hold up to its task, but for a 7000 series reel it is on the small side, and definitely not the strongest/stiffest in construction. upon testing it, I noted several bearing crunch/gritty sounds when free spinning and reeling it. The dual drag function does work, however I have my doubts about the live--liner drag function being strong enough to prevent swim away baits, or to hold in any current at all. The main drag is reasonably powerful, the bale trip is a bit clunky but it does not hang. The reel was bound up tight when I first tried to crank it, then after a few tight spots it suddenly freed itself up. I suspect bearings were pressed in out of alignment and forcing the reel to spin straightened things out. It still clicks/grits when you crank once or twice per rotation, so not the greatest construction. If you are looking for a cheap live-liner style reel for fish that are not in the trophy fish category (catfish, carp, etc) you might be ok. I wouldn't plan on fighting any 40lb striper with it though. ... show more

  • Awesome reel from Sougayilang
Size: SA7000
I have several products from Sougayilang and have been really pleased with all of them. This reel seems to be an another winner as well. First off it comes in a box not blister packed. In the box is a reel bag and a spare spool. The spool on the reel is aluminum and the spare is plastic. I like the aluminum for braid and will put mono or flouro on the plastic spool. The reel is very smooth. The drag works well. This is a bait feeder style so there is another rear drag that you can set. I got this reel to add to my surf fishing arsenal. I paired it with a 12 foot rod and will use it for fishing beyond the breakers. I like the bait feeding style reels because I can flip the bait feeder lever up and have the drag sit lightly so a fish won’t take my rod before I can get to it. Once you flip the lever or turn the handle the main drag takes over and you can fight the fish. Both drags work very well. The power handle is comfortable. I have not used it fishing yet but I did take it to the lake and make several casts and retrieves with 4 and 6 oz sinkers. The reel worked very well and felt good. I only surf fish a few times a year so I can’t see spending $$$$ on high end equipment. I do have a couple of Penn rigs and though I won’t say it is just as good, I can’t say the Penns are far superior at this point. Only time will tell. For the money I believe this is quality product. Based on the other Sougayilang products I have I look for it to be a dependable rig that I can depend on. ... show more

  • Its large and heavy but well built and feature rich
Size: SA6000
I got the 6000, but probably should have gotten the 4000 as, in my opinion, the 6000 is too big/heavy for trout/bass sized fish. The real feels solid and the action is smooth. It' just a bit heavier than many reals I have. If it's going to be sitting in a pole holder all day- not a big deal. If I'm holding it on a stream/river somewhere all day.... It is not ideal. It has a reversible handle for cranking on either side and an extra spool to keep a different test line on, as a backup. It has a feature I've never seen before where when the back lever on the base is flipped, it will pay out line when the fish hits it, based on the 2ndary drag, also located at the very rear of the real. It is immediately deactivated when you start reeling in. It's not something I'm used to, but when the fish are "playing with" the bait and not immediately swallowing, this is a nice feature. ... show more
