I have been using these for 3 years now and the battery life is still long. Sound quality is great. Zero issues, well worth the money. UPDATE 2: still love the sound quality. They've been at 100% battery through multiple 20 min workouts and I've not had to charge them past the initial charge. I haven't experienced any more cutting out from either ear. UPDATE: was watching YouTube and left earbud cut out 3 times in 10 minutes. I wrote down each time it happened so that I knew the time frame. I went to the gym and watched Netflix while working out. Left cut out once in a 20 min time frame and came right back on after maybe 3 seconds? I think this is some sort of function because it does this every time at the gym. Noise cancellation kicking on? I synched with my laptop and used Discord. Nobody had any complaints about me lol. I wasn't able to hear discord and my game at the same time, but when I use my USB headphones, I can. Not sure what the solution is there so I won't be using them for multiple things on the laptop until I get it sorted. The noise cancelling is awesome. I can barely hear a thing outside of what I'm playing on my phone. The sound quality is great too. I love how they fit. Easy to put on now that I know how they go. Not painful in the least. For comparison, I ordered a cheap $20 pair of earbuds (said they were on sale from $99, LOL I'd be getting my money back if that were case) and was not happy with the sound quality. They also did not fit well in my ears and hurt badly after only a few minutes of use. they did not have tips with them and didn't have removable pieces to swap even if I had some laying about so that was not great at all. Just a crappy pair. You get what you pay for! I read the reviews for these and saw mostly positive reviews. (In an Amazon world full of bribed 5 star reviews, you never know what is real or not.) So I took a chance and spent the money. I'm honestly glad I did. I have never heard such great sound from earbuds. I'm not a sound expert by any means, but I was immediately impressed and thrilled with the quality. The fit was great. The tips that came installed fit me perfectly. I thought the wings would bother me but I don't even notice them. I linked my Alexa to it and it worked for a simple test. Will post updates if they start having issues and how long it took to manifest.

I've been using the WF-SP800Ns for about a month now, and these are my new favorite earbuds to use on the daily. My original daily earbuds were the Galaxy Buds so I will be comparing them to those as well as to my short-lived Google Pixel Buds (they had a lot of issues). I have tried the WF-1000XM3s but I found them impossible to wear because any slight motion would loosen the earbuds, but with the wingtips of the WF-SP800Ns, I was able to wear these for hours without having to adjust them or anything. - First Impressions / Setup - Presentation was great and setting up the earbuds was a breeze. Simply pair them, install the Sony companion app, and you're pretty much all set. I found the wingtip and ear tip size that came with the earbuds to be pretty good, though I did switch out the wingtip to a bigger size to have a better seal and fit. The app was super user-friendly and I had no trouble navigating around the app. There were so many different settings for the ambient sound going from level 1 to 20. The Adaptive Sound Control changes the ambient noise based on what activity you are doing: sitting, running, walking, or transport. I found it to be pretty effective when I was walking and running around my house in the quarantine. The one downside I found with the bluetooth pairing was that it couldn't do multi-pairing with my phone and laptop. - Sound / Noise Cancellation / Ambient Sound - Without the equalizer, the sound was alright, but using the Excited profile on the app, there was a huge difference in sound. It was much clearer with more depth to the bass being at +8. Comparing them with my Galaxy buds with the balanced profile on, the WF-SP800Ns sounded way better with the deeper bass and clear mids and highs. I would say the Pixel Buds sound profile was clearer but had a weaker bass. For my personal taste, I prefer to have a more impactful bass and a clear sound profile together rather than one or the other. Unfortunately, I was never able to fully test the WF-1000XM3s noise cancellation. I was only able to test them in a room that had the AC on. I can confidently say that the noise cancelling on the WF-SP800Ns is more than enough for my daily routines. Normally, I cut the grass using my Galaxy Buds, but using the earbuds with both noise cancelling and music on makes cutting the grass way more enjoyable as the sound of a lawnmower is dampened a lot. However, the high pitch sounds of the lawnmower can still be heard, but with music, you can barely hear it. First off, the ambient sound on the Galaxy buds are okay, but they don't sound natural at all. Voices sound like robots and any other sound doesn't sound right. The ambient sound on the WF-SP800Ns are so good in my opinion. The outside world sounds a lot more natural including people's voices. They no longer sound like a robot and it was simply amazing. Having them on sounds exactly the same as not wearing the earbuds at all. - Battery Life / Comfort and Fit / Controls - Alright, the battery life is way more than enough for me as I typically spend 3-5 hours each day listening to music. I was able to use them for a whole week without even needing to recharge them. The case is noticeably larger than both my Galaxy buds and Pixel buds cases, but I honestly don't mind the size especially when I'm not leaving as often during these times. I'll update this review once I've tried using them until they died out and let you know how long they really went for. I absolutely love the fit of these buds, probably way more than my Galaxy and Pixel buds. The wingtip is super flexible and soft that I didn't really find it feeling like a thorn in my ear when compared to the wingtip of the Pixel buds. After two hours with the Pixel buds, the wingtip felt like it was stabbing me. My ears can really only last 2 hours wearing my previous buds but it has no problem wearing the WF-SP800Ns for more than 2 hours. There are 3 sets of ear tips and wingtips for you to try finding the perfect fit for you and I found the large wingtip and medium ear tip to be the perfect combination for myself. The controls work well, however you have to sacrifice other functionality in order to use one of them. The left earbud currently controls noise cancelling and ambient noise while the other controls music. I wish Sony could have it so each earbud can have multiple functions that could be used at the same time like calling Google Assistant and controlling music in one earbud. But other than that, I had no problems with the touch pads and found them pretty responsive unless your hands are wet. - Overall - Though these were built mainly for the active, they are perfectly useful for everyday use especially with their IP 55 rating. It felt comfortable using them in the rain knowing that they were built for something like this. At this price, I haven't found been able to find earbuds that had features found in higher priced earbuds like the WF-1000XM3s or AirPods Pro. Sony has truly made a well rounded truly wireless earbud that comes with features from all categories (i.e. noise cancelling, battery life, functionality, etc.) and they continue to be my favorites. If you prefer better noise cancellation over anything else, I suggest you look into the WF-1000XM3s, if not, I highly recommend you get these earbuds. I promise you won't regret it! * 4 stars because of no multi-functional controls and multi-pairing *

I'm an earbud geek, probably a product of both working out frequently (running + cycling) and from working at home while wrangling small kids. I've primarily used a pair of truly wireless Jaybird Vista earbuds as my favorite blend of good for workouts plus 'good enough' for phone calls for the last year... though I also have a pair of Bose wired earbuds (SoundSport), Bowers & Wilkins P13 wired earbuds, plus a few much cheaper off brand pairs that I'll sometimes grab for phone calls. These Sony WF-SP800N are my new favorite earbuds across the board. SETUP & SONY APP: Fine -- but nothing to write home about. I initially followed the instructions which tells you to open the Sony Headphone app and pair the earbuds there, but while the app saw the earbuds, it gave an error trying to pair them to my phone. Ignoring the instructions and just pairing them the normal way through my phone's bluetooth setting worked immediately and the connection since has been very strong (no drops, and good consistent connection even when I leave my phone downstairs and go upstairs to grab something). Overall the Sony app is ok; it allows for some sound mix customization and has more features than the Jaybird earbud app, but that's a low bar (the Jaybird app is truly bad). The one feature in the Sony app is that's particularly cool is that you can set a baseline amount of ambient noise for different activities: sitting, walking, running, and commute. Since I have young (read: noisy) kids at home, I put the ambient sound control level higher than the usual default for sitting. You do have to enable location detection in order for the earbuds to decide whether you're sitting/running/etc -- or at a location like the gym where you can also specify custom setting by location -- so for those with privacy concerns, you might turn off location detection and thus lose those features. One slight knock on these earbuds is that you can pair bluetooth to multiple devices, but you have to manually switch connections so there isn't a multi-point connection option. CONTROLS: Mostly very good. I love that the left and right earbuds can be independently set to cover different areas of control, i.e. as an example you can set one earbud to switch between Ambient Sound Control on/off and Noise Cancelling on/off while the other earbud controls music (pause, forward, back, etc). Besides being able to choose separate controls for each earbud, there are also a lot of types of controls you can assign through the app: Ambient Sound Control, Playback Control, Volume Control, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, or none. The only thing that keeps these from being excellent is a personal preference, but it annoys me a bit that the controls are activated by brushing your finger on the earbud's control area, you don't actually push a button in. Once in awhile if I adjust my long hair to be out of my face or to pull it back, or am sweaty during exercise and towel off my face, my hands will brush the earbuds and trigger the controls. Not a deal breaker for me since it doesn't happen often, but it's one area where I prefer my Jaybird Vistas since they have an actual button you depress to trigger the controls. There are also a couple default controls that I found a little annoying and turned off in the app: example, if you remove an earbud it pauses the music automatically. All of those features are easy to turn on/off in the app though, so overall the flexibility of controls is excellent, with the control sensitivity being the only "un-fixable" annoyance. SOUND: The sound on these Sony earbuds is excellent overall and fantastic when compared to other truly wireless earbuds. They're nearly as good as a pair of over-ear Master & Dynamic MW65 earphones we have that are much more expensive ($499). I don't think any wireless earbuds can truly best over-ear headphones, but these come close. I thought the sound on my Jaybird Vistas was very good, but the Sonys have a better sound blend and also enable you to simply hear better because of the Ambient & Noise Cancelling features (neither of which the Jaybird Vistas have). The Noise Cancelling is excellent for earbuds, but it isn't perfect; if you're frequently on an airplane and want super strong noise cancelling, then I'd recommend some other options for over-ear headphones (or some of the wired earbuds like Bowers & Wilkins PI3 which is a similar price point to these Sonys; the noise cancelling is better on the B&W, but they have heavy cord controls and don't work at all for exercise). For wireless earbuds that pair functionality with overall excellent sound, the Sonys are the best I've come across. Phone calls also have very good sound, and I've had zero issues with dropped calls so far. COMFORT & BATTERY: I love the fit of these. My ears do best with earfins, which Jaybird Vista also has. This might not be for everyone, but it's the only type I've found that will stay flawlessly in my ears during sweaty workouts. These are a bit bigger in size than my Jaybirds but feel light and comfortable in my ears, and stayed in fine even during intense workouts running outside and on our Peloton. The battery is also very good. In theory the earbuds have 9 hours of playback with noise cancelling on and 13 without -- mine didn't last quite that long, which is understandable since I was frequently using the music controls, but I got close to 8 hours with noise cancelling on. The case provides another full charge worth of battery life. The case itself is frankly not amazing. It's bulky, considerably larger than the jaybird vista case, and is a weird oblong shape that doesn't fit comfortably in any sort of pocket. OVERALL: In any one category (noise cancelling, sound, battery life) you could probably find another brand that performs a bit better in that single category. But for truly wireless earbuds that are utility players across all the categories, these are my favorite by far. I find myself reaching for these for multi-hour Zoom work sessions as well as tough workouts or just around the house while I do chores. Great overall functionality and a nice value at the price point.

I’ve had plenty of time to really test Sony’s WF-SP800N in-ear buds. I must note that I also own Sony’s WF-1000XM3 earbuds and though there are a few differences regarding premium looks they are still high quality as you would find on anything from Sony. These are a sporty version and slightly smaller. They are sweat, water and dust resistant with a rating of IP55. They fit nicely anywhere, even in my pockets. And unlike other buds with a smaller case that are more prone to fall out or get lost (I own small ones) these haven’t been misplaced or unseen. They are decent size and weight just right. I’ve gotten about 8-9 hours on a single charge with noise-cancelling on, and about 12-13 hours with it off. You will be able to get one full charge from the built-in battery in the case. When you're running low just pop them back in for 10 minutes and you’ll get another 60 minutes more of play time! Love that! They are comfortable to wear and do stick out a bit. There’s a weird popping sound when I get out of sync with the connected device and that really hurts. I’ve never experienced this before, and I own about 20 other wireless ear buds. This needs to be addressed because I fear having to run off to the other side of the house and getting disconnected only to get this ear-piercing popping sound. It does come with a small length Type-C cable, 3 different ear tip sizes and small/larger arc supporters. There is an app (Sony Headphones Connect) that you can download for more customizations which I do recommend for turning on/off features, but they work with or without it as soon as you pair them. They come with a touch interface. One side controls Ambient Sound/Voice Assistant and the other, Playback. You can control volume on the left bud by tapping for volume up or maintaining it touched for lowering the volume. Ambient sound is superb, and they adjust according to the level of noises in your surroundings. I wish they had included the same processor as the 1000XM3 has (QN1e) because the sound quality just isn’t the same on the WF-SP800N. I have used these for many situations and in different weather. Calls, music, videos, audiobooks, they all sound wonderful. I go from raking my leaves to watering my lawns and I must admit that not having to worry about dust, sweat and water is quite relieving. They both have sensors that knows when you're wearing them or not and you can customize them to pause playback or do nothing. If you tap and hold the left earbud you can listen to the outside sounds and this is an important feature I truly appreciate. They also work with voice activated assistants and I enjoy using them to control my home. The app will let you create settings for different activities which is a must in today’s fast paced world. You can pair these with multiple devices, but you will have to do it manually. I found it easiest to deactivate Bluetooth from the device I’m leaving and enabling Bluetooth to the device I want to connect to. These are my favorite in-ear buds. They look nice, sound great, have features that are helpful and last a decent amount of time for my day-to-day life. Worth the buy.

Instead of writing three separate reviews, I have decided to write one roundup comparing the three earbuds below: Apple AirPods Pro Sony WF-SP800N Samsung Galaxy Buds+ First of all, I’m not an audiophile, just an ordinary everyday user. So, as long as the audio quality is decent, I won't complaint about it. I’m sorry about my long review. If you’re only interested in one of these 3 products, feel free to jump to the section you’re interested in. Apple AirPods Pro: My first true wireless earphones is Apple’s AirPods Pro. I never consider the original Airpods because of the lack of silicone ear tips. Once the AirPods Pro was available, I jumped onto the true wireless earphones wagon. It works extremely well with my iPhone as expected. The noise canceling feature works pretty well and it’s convenient when I go on flights. The charging case is very small. I don’t have many complaints about the product except for three minor ones: (1) it’s expensive just like other Apple products, (2) it’s not available in more subtle colors, like black and, (3) sometimes, when I put my AirPods back to its case, the music app on my iPhone would suddenly and randomly play a song (not from my music library) from the phone speakers. I think it’s a bug. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this product. If you don’t mind its price and you have an iPhone, this is definitely the true wireless earphones you should get. Sony WF-SP800N: Later on, I started searching for a secondary wireless earphones to share the “workload” of my AirPods. My first choice was Sony WF-SP800N. I picked it because: (1) I was a Sony fan (before becoming an Apple fan). Back in the late 80’s/early 90’s, I even bought those super slim cassette tape Walkmans/Discmans from Japan, which were not available in the US. Later on, I also bought MD Walkmans. (2) It works with Sony’s Headphones Connect app, which allows you to customize the earphones to your needs (WF-XB700 doesn’t support the app). (3) It offers active noise canceling feature but not as expensive as the high-end WF-1000XM3. Active noise canceling is not a must-have feature for me, but because of how good it works in AirPods Pro, it’s now a nice-to-have feature. (4) It’s competitively priced. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. (1) I don’t know why, but no matter which size of ear tips I picked, the earphones just don’t fit well. It’s probably because the outer portion of the earphones is too big. No matter how I push the earphones into my ears, they just won’t stay in. Without a good fitting, it affects the audio quality. It also takes me 5-7 seconds to put on each earbud because I keep second guessing whether it’s at the “optimal” position. (2) The noise canceling feature hardly reduces any noise. I kept turning on and off the feature to compare. I can tell it’s doing something (the noise changed) but it’s not reducing the noise. (3) The charging case is too big to put into my pant pocket. It makes the product inconvenient for everyday use. I’m sorry. I can’t recommend this product. If Sony US team is reading this review and if Sony Japan is designing all the products, please tell the Japan team that you don’t need to make too many half-baked products. You just need to offer 3 tiers of products (aka “good”, “better” and “best”) and focus on making sure they are the best products at their price points. If the noise canceling feature doesn’t work, then don’t put it there and make the pricing even more competitive. Furthermore, you have to make the earphones and the charging case smaller (for better fit and convenience, respectively.) You can learn a few things from Samsung (see review below.) Sony, I used to love your products. I hope I can buy quality and beautifully-designed products from you again. Please, please do better. Samsung Galaxy Buds+: Disappointed by the Sony earphones, I continued my search for secondary wireless earphones. Reading all the good reviews of Samsung Galaxy Buds+, I decided to give it a try. It turns out that the earphones are small and fit my ears perfectly. Since they fit so well, even though they don’t have active noise canceling feature, they block most of the background noise. They also look better than the AirPods Pro and they come in black! The battery life of these earphones is just amazing. The charging case is very small and I have no problem carrying it in my pant pocket. The Samsung Galaxy Buds app offers a few very welcoming customization features. I have two complaints though: (1) When I use this earphones in conference calls, people complain about my voice being extremely soft, almost inaudible. During phone calls, people also tell me my voice is not as clear as when I use Airpods Pro. Because of these reasons, I often need to switch back to Airpods Pro for calls. (2) The wireless range of this pair of Samsung earphones is not as good as the AirPods Pro. The audio starts breaking off when I’m about 20 feet away from my phone (with obstacles in between.) With the same distance, my AirPods Pro don’t have any range issue. However, I can tolerate that because this pair of Samsung earphones is much cheaper than AirPods Pro! In short, if you don’t feel like spending too much and your main use of wireless earphones is for listening to music, not phone calls, I would recommend this product.

I included a screenshot of my EQ present if you're the type of person that wants less bass and more clarity. These are definetly bass headphones. Alternatively you can purchase Comply Smartcore or Sport Pro ear tips that will also help reduce bass and increase clarity. I am using these Comply tips atm on these bad boys; much more comfortable. TL;DR : Hands down these are the workout versions of WF-1000XM3 earbuds. Durable, water resistant, and a very secure fit with excellent battery life. Same features as XM3s and bassier for an engaging workout. I workout at a noisy private gym that blasts music and the SP-800N cancel out everything for me to focus on my lifts. They have volume controls (customized in the Sony app), good call quality, and an excellent ambient mode. Touch controls are smooth and the touch pad is wide and curved to conform to your index finger. Language voice can be customized and I have these on the Japanese voice pack. The auto play and pause feature upon removal or insertion of the earbuds work smoothly and seamlessly just like the WF-1000XM3. Don't mind the large case since I chuck these in my gym bag and in general they still fit in my pockets fine. Highly recommend, Sony did a great job on them! Context: I have owned the Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds since last year September 2019. I've tried working out with the XM3s and even biked through a rain storm in NYC with them. I used them in the gym to lift weights and have gotten chalk all over them. The XM3s despite not having an official IPX water rating have still held up. Unfortunately I always disliked how they would over time start falling out of my ears. Even with the official Sony Comply Grip foam tips, I would need to adjust them here and there. Then comes these newly released SP-800N. These SP-800Ns have the wings which is mandatory and what the XM3s should've had. These are amazing, I can now workout, run, or bike without worrying my earbuds will fall. These are just as secure as the Jaybird Vistas I used to own before selling them to a friend. The IP55 water rating is a huge plus. The massive battery, 9 hours with ANC and 13 hours without is amazing. I now use my Sony WF-1000XM3 purely for commuting on public transit (subway and bus) here in NYC and for premium every day carry audio. These SP-800Ns will serve for the gym and as an excellent backup. Because these fit better and seal better, I think they end up blocking more noise in the long run. ANC is almost as strong as the XM3s but the secure fit makes up for it. XM3 buds still have the best ANC. Again, sound signature is bassy which isn't a bad thing. The Sony Headphone Connect App is what makes these one of the best on the market. So many customizable features and full equalizer to tweak the audio to your liking. Only con is lack of wireless charge so hopefully the XM4s and next year's SP upgrade will include this feature. I don't mind the carrying case being large imo. I throw these in my gym bag and they still fit in my pockets fine. Moreover it's kinda eh you only get one charge with the case. Still at least the buds can go for a long time. These are a great purchase! Awesome job Sony!

Got these on Prime Day for a really good price. Even at regular price, they are a good value for what you get. Noise Cancelling. This works surprisingly well for earphones at this price point. Sony is the leader in NC headphones, so they passed on that tech to the lower models. These aren't as feature packed as the WH-1000XM4, but good enough for active users that don't want to wear bulky over the ear headphones. The Headphones app changes mode and adjusts the NC strength depending on what you're doing, like sitting or walking or running. It can also detect if you're on a train/bus. You can also override this by associating NC mode by location. I didn't enable this feature because I suspect it drains your battery faster. Each NC is adjustable to your liking, which is nice. Or if you don't want NC at all, you can disable it completely. You'll get much longer battery life too. The app. You need the app to update the firmware, assign the touch control functions, and adjust the NC levels. You can probably uninstall it after you set everything up. But you'll probably lose the auto mode change feature. You also need the app to play back 360 audio services. Sound quality. These are not audiophile level earphones. Sound quality is flat (in a good way) and has decent bass. If you want thumping bass, Sony released a newer mega bass model. Overall, these sound way better than my Beats Flex. Fit. I guess I have asymmetrical ears. The left earphone fits great, but the right is a little loose. I need to try out the different ear tips and stabilizers. Both are made of a soft silicone material. Even if they fit perfectly, I would not be out running or doing vigorous exercise with these. I feel like they would fall out. Like most true wireless earphones, these things bulge out of your ear a bit. One bump and they'll pop out of your ears. Calls. I have not used these for calls. I don't plan on it either. These don't have the fancy beam forming mics like the higher end models. So I'm going to assume these would only be suitable for calls in quiet rooms. Voice control. I don't get why people are scared of Alexa enabled devices. First you have to manually link the earphones to Alexa and your Amazon account. In the Headphones app, you can assign a touch control to launch Alexa or Google Assistant or none. But this is kind of a dumb setting because when you long press the volume control, you can launch your phone's voice assistant. So you really just need to set the default voice assistant on your phone, and use the long press. No need to waste a touch control to set this. Battery life. The earphones themselves can last an entire work day at least. But putting them back in the case, recharges them. So you can probably go a few days without recharging the case. Other. Not many accessories. Just earphones, charging case, some different size ear tips and stabilizers, and a very short USB-C to USB-C cable. No actual USB charger. I don't mind, since I already have a lot.

I have the WH-1000XM3 and the WF-1000MX3. The left bud of my 10-month old WF-1000XM3 gave up and so I sent it back for an exchange. But I didn't want to be without a wireless bud for a month? So I have read about these newish WF-SP800N and decided I'll get it. Here are the highlights: Fit Far superior to the 1000XMs which is just 'perched' on your ears, these SP800Ns fit me like a glove. I had been benefiting from the commute time savings of work-from-home and have been indulging in a no of home improvement tasks. With the 1000XMs, I had either bud fall out inexplicably, into the floor, dirt, grass, hard cement too many times to count. And I had it fitted with the largest bud (for a tighter fit and great sound isolation). There were a few occasions where I had to look for a dropped bud in the debris. For the past two days since I got the SP800Ns, I have exposed them to the ultimate test. I have been on the roof, on the top of my patio, high on the ladder, with both gloved hands full of paint and they NEVER fell off. I would never have attempted this with the 1000XMs. Moreover, it has been 100 deg heat and I've been drenched in sweat which would have been worrisome with the non-sweat proof 1000XMs. However, that said, the largest earbuds of the SP800Ns have stayed behind in my ears on two removal occasions. They are somewhat easier to come off. I tried the next smaller sized tip but I'll lose the sound isolation as well as a significant decrease in bass from the looser fit. Sound Quality Ex-audiophile here though my days of critical listening are quite over. If the WF-1000XM3 sounded better, you've got me fooled. I say the SP800Ns are just as good if not better. It FITS better, the bass is stronger which also helps to isolate external noise. I could not say that the NC is any worse but in fact thought it better than the 1000XMs. And just like the 1000XMs, no LDAC support with the SP800N either. Others It's a win here with splash-proof, longer battery life, greater bass and more importantly, better fit. Drawbacks I had 8 pairs of BT wireless head and earphones. My top two are now the WH-1000XM3 and these SP800Ns. I only have 1 pair of ears. Conclusion Ever since I moved up from the lower-cost BT earphones, Jabra, Earpeats, Motorola, AKGs and a bunch others to the costlier Sonys, I've never looked back. Now, aside from the sofa-locked and earmuff-sized WH-1000XM3, the SP800Ns are now my go to head/earphones for both indoor and outdoor. Heck, one can even take a nap with these they are that comfortable.
