  • Actually plug-and-play, actually great functionality
Color: White
Why all the 'actually'? Well, so often when you buy something, the shiny ads claim it does everything but bring you breakfast in bed, whereas in fact it takes hours of downloading extra drivers, giving up any right to privacy you may've thought you had, and acknowledging that the days of pigeon post were simpler. These showed up, required a brief charge, one app to be put on my phone that didn't want me to give up my location, my contacts, my home address, and my mother's maiden name, and then paired without argument. The case is practical and well-designed, the headphones themselves are comfortable and give me excellent sound-quality, and the noise-cancelling, while obviously not equal to full over-ear headsets, is extremely good. I've also not yet managed to run them out of battery, so I'm going to give them an enthusiastic thumbs-up on battery life as well. All in all, I'm very happy with these - they do exactly what they say on the packet with a minimum of fuss. ... show more

  • The good- These were legit the most comfortable best sealing earbuds I have ever worn
Color: White
I was really excited for these. Unfortunately they only worked for 2 days before the right earbud refused to charge. It will blink red in the case without charging, I have tried all reset options, sony customer service says to send them in. The good- These were legit the most comfortable best sealing earbuds I have ever worn. So easy to wear and comfortable over time. I absolutely love the way they retain in the ear. Noise cancelling seemed to work fine. Could definitely notice on and off. The bad- Well, they stopped working on day 3. Unlike other reviewers, I found the sound to be atrocious at first, then i selected the "prioritize sound quality" button in the sony app, and this helped alot. then after that, the sound was just ok, the bass is way over-done, and the eq can't be custom edited, i think "vocal" was the best one I found, but they seemed to either select for max bass, or no bass, and i found most to sound a little muddy across the mids. as others mentioned, i didn't like using only the left channel for phone calls. I will mention I am coming for sennheiser momentum around the neck style and they are known for clarity and separation, so.. grain of salt about sound quality. I will update this if there is a reason to. ... show more

  • Short battery life
This is my first pair of in-ear wireless headphones, so maybe I was naive about the battery life. But when the description said up to nine hours of life, I assumed that was on a single charge like my much cheaper Sony bluetooth earbuds that were connected by a wire. Apparently that 9 hours includes the recharges you get out of the case. I think that is deceptive and should be clarified in the description. So far I have gotten less than three hours on a charge. To recharge in the case takes an hour or more, and you cannot use the buds independently while the other is charging, because only the left bud connects to the phone, while the right connects to the left. So when the left one dies, you have no headphones until it is recharged. I suppose three-ish hours is adequate for a workout or run, but I like to keep an earbud in one ear and listen to music or podcasts throughout my shift, and having to put it away for an hour less than three hours onto my shift is a bummer. Everything else is fine, the sound quality is good, the larger ear inserts made a nice tight fit in my ears, and they stay in place well. The noise concealing is good enough to improve sound quality, while the ambient setting is good when you are wearing it at work and need to be able to speak conversationally with others without pulling the bud out. Maybe I was expecting too much out of battery technology for such small devices. But 3 hours of life is pretty short. I will probably keep looking for another set with longer battery life, even if that means a cable with a larger battery attached. ... show more

  • Impressed.
First of all, these are the first pair of advanced headphones I've purchased. So I am not an expert in headphones. But I am expert in low end sports bluetooth headphones having many versions including low end true wireless ear buds. So I had pretty high expectations for headphones costing this much. These have met my expectations. The noise cancellation is good. It is not as good as some of the high end over the ear versions I have tried but I didn't expect this to be the case. But I am glad they put that option into these and I find myself using and enjoying this feature. The ambient mode and voice modes also appear to work well enough, allowing outside sounds in. The sound quality in my opinion is quite good and I like the app and the ability to try different sound profiles. We should be able to modify the equalizer ourselves rather than just flip through profiles. Maybe that will come later or maybe I just can't figure out how to do that just yet. If you want the sound to blast your eardrums out of your head these may not be for you. I can easily tolerate the highest volume settings. It's pretty loud but in my opinion could definitely be louder at the highest volume setting. But I really enjoy the sound quality. Right now I want to use these headphones to listen to my music and that has never been the case before. The clarity is very good. I believe the bass is sufficiently deep. The highs and mids are good, and again you can play with the equalizer profiles in the app to find a setting for you. The charging case appear to work sufficiently. I wish the indicator lights indicated full charge instead of the red lights just turning off. There does not seem to be a way to know that each of the individual buds is fully charged. The app gives you a battery level but it gives you one indicator for two independently charging buds? Not sure how well that works. I have no idea how well the case and charging will hold up over time. That's actually a concern of mine but can't comment intelligently on this at this point, of course. The bluetooth connectivity works well and the buds seem to be able to maintain connection with one another with no problems. With low end true wireless, the ear buds sometimes cannot keep connection with each other very well. I have not tested the distance the ear buds can maintain connection from the phone but leaving the phone in one place in my home and going troughout the home, up and down stairs found no issues with losing connectivity. The earbuds fit into the ear and stay put and are comfortable. I feel that they have done a very nice job here. I do not fear them falling out when running and mowing etc. I do not feel that these are too big in the ear or weigh too much to interfere with comfort at all. I think they have pretty good look to them. I ordered black. Overall very pleased and I find myself wanting to use them a lot right now. ... show more

  • All in all, a brilliant little invention by Sony!
Zero wires and noise canceling were my priorities, and while expensive, I am really enjoying these. I have them in black and wear them to the gym and just about everywhere else I go, sometimes I only wear the left one. I almost always keep the charging case plugged into the car. The charging case bumps this product up to 5-stars for me, just make sure you press them in snuggly and wait a moment for the charging indicator to light up. Noise canceling isn't as amazing as full headphones like Sony WH1000XM2 or Bose QuietComfort 35 II, but it definitely makes a difference. Love that you can make adjustments in the app on Android, and I assume iOS. It takes a bit of practice to sort of twist these into your ears, but once in, they are in to stay. All in all, a brilliant little invention by Sony! UPDATE: Oops, no need to twist these into place like I originally wrote, doing so seems to have irritated my ears and resulted in some dry skin up there. Comfort Ear Natural Moisturizer cleared that up, no more twisting them into place and my ears are doing a lot better. UPDATE (after a year of use): Using these daily and really enjoying them, the battery and charging case seems to be holding up well. It is necessary to clean up any wax build-up every few weeks, a few minutes and about 6 q-tips and the case and earbuds are good as new. If I can get a couple of more years out of these they will have been one of my best investments. ... show more

  • Better design/ergonomics than Bose SoundSport Free but worse overall.
Color: White
I really wanted to like these wireless earbuds but in the end I just couldn't. I ended up returning them and getting the Bose SoundSport wireless earbuds which are about the same price but better overall. Here's my comparison: Good: - Great ergonomics/design. Sony was the original leader and trend setter in electronics design, decades before Apple came on the scene to steal the crown. These earbuds are fantastically designed. They just slip into your ear canal (with the right size ear adapter) and the weight of the earbud is perfectly weighted and designed so that you don't feel like something heavy is hanging out of your ear. It's also not that noticeable when in your ear. The Bose feel slightly awkward in the ear as they do hang out rather than along the ear and it takes some adjustment to make them feel comfortable and stable in my ears. Bad: - Uncomfortable! Sadly, the Sony's ergonomic superiority may be due to the use of a hard plastic tube that is surrounded by a flexible and soft yet thin material that just slides in your ear for a secure fit but is almost instantly uncomfortable because of that hard plastic tube. The Bose's earpiece lacks a hard plastic tube inside the soft earpiece and is completely comfortable, at the cost of the stable and secure feel of the Sony. - Each earbud (left and right) needs to be turned on separately! Absurd but you actually have to turn on each earbud in order to get sound from both. Both sides of the Bose turn on and connect when the power (which is on the left earbud) is turned on. Bose wins this one too. - Carryng/charging case is poorly designed. In the Sony, you really have to rotate the flexible ear piece to get it to sit properly in the case. It just doesn't fit with the earpiece in the orientation it needs to be to fit in your ear. I found this to be very disappointing and baffling. Also, the case is cheaper looking/feeling with an odd rotating lid. Bose wins here too. Other features like sound quality, pairing, battery life, etc. seemed similar to me and/or were not evaluated/compared in depth. So, overall the Bose is the hands down winner even though I wanted to like and keep the Sony (which I bought first and only got the Bose after I realized I needed to return the Sonys). Interestingly, I also bought a wired version (left and right earbuds are connected by a wire) of earbuds from Sony a year ago before returning it for the wired version of the Bose SoundSport for mostly the same reasons. Hopefully Sony will address the problems with their wireless earbuds so that they can have an actual competitor to the Bose SoundSport Free. ... show more

  • As for the noise cancelling options they were great and I look forward to trying these out on ...
I bought these mainly for the noise cancelling while I work around loud equipment, but as I got them today after work I took them to the gym for the first trial. I normally wear over the ear sports earphones because I sweat a lot and my previous earbuds would slip out. Towards the end of 4 miles I thought I felt some slipping, but I'll need to wait for another day to update that. 4 miles is a win in my book. As for the noise cancelling options they were great and I look forward to trying these out on my next flight Monday where I normally wear larger noise cancelling headphones. The sound straight out of the box was good, but not great. However once I downloaded the sony app and I played with the EQ settings I found the sound to be great. I also find these to look a lot nicer and less awkward compared to the apple buds that everyone is now wearing. Overall, very happy after the first day. ... show more

These are very durable. I’ve had mine for a year and half. These have become a mainstay for me. I wear them while I play basketball and they stay in my ears pretty well unless I get extremely sweaty. They’ve been drenched in sweat, thrown across courts, put through the washing machine by mistake. They’ve definitely taken a ton of abuse from me and they still sound amazing like the day I got them. My only negative opinion of these is that the battery life could be a little better, but they’d be too perfect then. ... show more
