Noise Cancellation on these are among the best. Tests in such as traffic or moving in a car show it matching or exceeding in some area other top competitors in noise canceling Ambient Mode ( Transparency ) is very good and serviceable but there is a bug with the firmware that randomly resets the mode if you try to keep it on auto (adaptive). Not as good out of the box as the APP3 but not way worse when it works. Sound Quality - Out of the box is class leading. No adjustments needed and you’re getting plenty of bass without it being overpowering and the depths lows , mids and highs are clear without EQ. 10 band EQ is added in this generation for more customization. Touch controls - as good as it gets for buds like these. Yes stem controls are better. The settings here had to be tweaked for personal preference but once that’s done it’s good. Volume control isn’t ideal due to having to tap 4+ times on either bud to go up or down respectively. However the new shape of these earbuds make it more forgiving with larger touch surface area so if you are off center it’ll still register the tap. Call Quality - it is the best to date for Sony buds. I’m certain noisey circumstances like in car rides the XM5 were unusable for me. The XM6 is clear and people can’t tell if I’m using those or the APP3 when asking how clear my voice is. I still think APP3 mic is tuned perfectly especially when used with an iPhone in blocking out all sounds but your voice. Fit/Comfort - most comfortable buds to date that fit my ears right out of the box with a good seal and no irritation. Sony’s ear tips are different than standard comply foams and other foam tips. They are shaped like silicone tips but they are made with foam but their structure holds the seal better with less foam than other foam tips. It’s hard to explain but you will see when looking at it side by side. They do stay in my ears while jogging which for my ears many earbuds failed to stay in without some extra retention Looks - i think this is controversial as it does look very utilitarian and not as attractive as some peoples preference. I think the XM4 and XM5 looks better but these are growing on me. The buds and case look better in person Battery - I got between 9-10 hours on the buds with a single charge. The case advertises an additional 16 hours. Case - very high quality and in my opinion the best hinge feel on open and close to date. It’ll be a 5/5 after some firmware updates. ... show more

    • Very good, maybe or maybe not the best?

I got them to try out on release, they are very good. Unfortunately I've been using the devialet Gemini 2 for a year and they are just next level sounding and everything else is one step down from them... But if you are coming from any other ear bud, these will be very impressive. They were impressive enough that I had to go back and forth between buds listening to different songs a few times to really dial in the differences between the two. For those looking for top tier features and functionality, these might not be as loud or sound quite as good as the best sounding ear buds you can buy but all around performance plus feature set, plus battery life... These will be the best for some people. The tips aren't great though and they feel kind of loose in your ears due to the bulbous design... For $330, not sure I can give it a pass to need to buy aftermarket tips. I feel like silicone at this point is better 10 out of 10 times but maybe the foam will fit some people better. They made a very good set of buds but definitely not the best truly wireless noise cancelling earbuds imo. I'd take the devialet Gemini 2 or BW pi8 over these but they're also more $ with worse software and battery life. Depends what you value. ... show more
