  • You will not regret it.
I’ve tried AirPods Pro, Bose QC Ultras, and every other flagship out there, and the Sony WF-1000XM5 absolutely destroy them all. These aren’t just “really good” earbuds — they’re a full-on audio experience that makes every other pair feel like toys. First, the noise cancellation is straight-up witchcraft. I wear them on my noisy commute, in the gym, on airplanes, and even in my loud office, and the outside world just… disappears. The new V2 processor is insane — it blocks low rumbles, high-pitched chatter, and everything in between better than anything I’ve tested. I genuinely forget I’m wearing earbuds sometimes. Sound quality? Mind-blowing. Crystal-clear highs, punchy, tight bass that actually has texture, and a mid-range so rich it makes vocals feel alive. With LDAC on my Android phone, it’s like having a high-end studio monitor in my ears. I’ve been rediscovering my entire music library — songs I thought I knew suddenly have new layers. Turn on 360 Reality Audio and it feels like the band is performing right in front of you. Comfort is another huge win. The new design is noticeably lighter and smaller than the XM4s, and the included foam tips create a perfect seal that stays put for hours. I’ve worn them for 6–7 hour flights with zero ear fatigue. They feel premium too — the matte black finish and solid build scream quality. Battery life is excellent (8+ hours with ANC on, 24 total with the case), and the case is tiny and charges wirelessly. Multi point Bluetooth, super-fast pairing, touch controls that actually work, and the Sony Headphones app is packed with useful customization. I have a custom EQ preset that makes these things sing exactly how I want. Honestly, these aren’t just earbuds — they’re a daily upgrade to my life. Music sounds better, travel is more peaceful, workouts are more motivating, and even phone calls sound crystal clear. If you’re even thinking about upgrading, stop thinking and just buy them. You will not regret it for a single second. ... show more

  • Good earbuds
I'm pleased with my Sony earbuds. They weren't too difficult to set up and they sound very good.

  • Great sound / awful bluetooth connectivity
The sound is the best that i've heard from an earbud type headphone - very good. Noise cancelling is good - but none of the earbuds match the over the ear style noise cancelation capabilities. The bluetooth is just plain awful. If you are not around other connected devices - its great. Once you are walking in a crowd - it's spotty at a best. It's constantly losing connection. Every time. Truly awful. Oddly I can sit on the train - and it's fine. There's something about the movement relative to other devices that just trips up the connection. ... show more

  • Hard pass on renewed. Will try brand new one.
I decided after 4 years of using the Sony LinkBuds S Truly Wireless Noise Canceling Earbud to take a upgrade to the higher priced WF 1000xms. I figured I'd jump of a renewed version. It's been very disappointing if I'm being honest, even wondering if my set is defective. First off, the fit is not as good as the lower model. I'm having to shove the earbuds in my ears just for them to slowly make their way back out. I've even tried different ear pieces to see if better fit and same result. Then the metal charging ports hiusing hurt my ears. Not sure if that is normal but didn't have that issue with my other model. Now my inner ears are raw from the bad fit. Then the real let down is the sound. I toggle between noise cancelling and ambient and it all sound the same. And the sound sounds trebble heavy and almost no bass even as I play with the settings. I'm going to return this refurbished set and spend more for a new unit and decide if these are for me or maybe I should just abandon Sony and try a different brand. The LinkBuds S were amazing out of the box, great fit and amazing sound and noise cancelling. The battery life tho was absolute rubbish as it lasted maybe 3 hours then battery life seemed to be about 8 to 10 months before it simply couldn't keep charge. And this model seems to last longer but too many issues to justify the price. ... show more

  • Completely satisfied
As far as I'm concerned these are brand new. Yeah they didn't come in original packaging, but they came in perfect condition with everything included that should have been included. I did a pretty exhaustive battery test of the earbuds and case and they work as expected with advertised battery life. Audio is great, for is comfortable, and app is intuitive. ... show more

  • Mine came with a full set of earpieces!
Reading the reviews before purchasing, I was a little concerned that the refurbished version had many low reviews for missing earpieces. Well, mine came with earpieces on the headphones, plus a bag with three more pairs and a stubby USB-A to USB-C charging cable. Everything seems to be in like-new condition. The packaging was missing, so it was just some plastic bags in a generic USPS cardboard box, but that makes no difference to me. (I only mention it because the set of XM5 over ear headphones I bought refurbished even came in the Sony packaging). It's the middle of winter in WI right now, so when they were delivered, the battery was too cold to charge normally. It turns out they recommend the battery be close to 60°F to charge. But, they warmed up quickly, and I'm not going to dock points for that. On to the important parts.... Sound quality is good, but not great. I'm coming from owning multiple sets of over the ear headphones, including the XM3 and XM5 Sony models, and there's really no comparison. The over the ear versions are miles better. Bass on the earbuds is lacking in both clarity and volume. I was surprised by the frequency range - one of my test tracks has prominent sub-bass, and I was still present and discernible even when it was in the background of a variety of other tones. Treble is clear enough, but the soundstage is very limited. This may be an earbud issue in general, I'm not sure. Most of my complaints about the bass can be fixed with the "Clear Bass" function, which is found under the equalizer. I'm currently running with the mid and treble sliders increased by a couple notches, and the clear bass almost all the way up. Comfort-wise, they're good so far. They seem to stay in place, even with the wrong size earpieces (I've experimented with all but the smallest, more tapered size.) I will also say, the earpieces make a significant difference in the sound quality. If they're too big, they don't fit in your ear far enough, and the sound suffers greatly. Noise reduction seems sufficient. Haven't taken them on a plane yet, though I plan to in a couple weeks, so maybe I'll update this review. The foam tips make pretty good earplugs even without the noise cancelling on. So, in short, dock one star for the sound quality and the fact that I had to spend half an hour adjusting the equalizer to get it to meet my expectations. Everything else is good! ... show more

  • ANC not great due to non silicone tips and bad fit
Don’t fit well due to not having silicone ear tips which I wasn’t aware of when purchasing. The app is too complicated and dated. I’ve since purchased another brand when fit perfectly and work as expected. It’s odd as my Sony headphones are amazing and have always loved the brand.

  • These earbuds surprised me.
I bought these to replace a pair of lost Bose QC earbuds II. After considerable thought I finally decided to give these a try. I picked up these renewed for a hundred dollars less than it was going to cost me to replace the Bose and after being hooked on the Bose buds for so long I thought these had to be a step down. To my surprise I didn't miss the Bose QCs at all. After a few weeks I found the sound comparable and the software more full featured than that offered by Bose. I like the Bose, but I would buy these again. ... show more
