Wow!
This is not something I "needed" but wow, it is fun! I did have a big stereo years ago, but technology changes. It is kind of expensive, but fills my house with music. The sounds quality is good, it has 7 speakers, a big woofer that really handles bass, cranked up near it, you feel it. Two mid range and 4 tweeters, two facing forward, and two aimed up at an angle off the back of the unit (if standing up tall). It literally fills my house with music, cranked up the sound moves through all rooms. And it is not straining at high volume, quality remains high, even at higher volume. It is large and heavy! It does have two little wheels on the back, so you can tilt it back and roll it. You have to bend over to pull it. An extendable handle would make transportation a lot easier! Everything functions as intended. I have mostly used the Bluetooth connection. The Bluetooth is exceptional, I have walked all over my house with my phone, the speaker in the corner has never cut out! Most Bluetooth connections are much shorter distance, so very impressed with the distance. And yes, it looks cool. The front has LED's around the front, you have several options for making those different colors, flash with the music, fade, or can turn them off for just music. Apart from the size and weight (and no extension handle), a few other small drawbacks. First thing it does is ask you to download an app, of course. This is how you adjust the lights, access the EQ, and things like that. The biggest drawback I have found is the the volume on the speaker, controls your phone, and other way around. So my ideal listening level happens to be in-between two "steps" on my phone. If I click up one, it is quite loud (for normal listening) and down one is very soft. If you turn the "volume" button on the speaker, it just goes up or down by adjusting the volume on your phone. You can change this by using a different mode, or going into the app and playing with the EQ, but if your ideal volume is in-between two "steps" on your phone, it is difficult to get it to the right volume. It does have a "battery health" setting, which does not bring it to 100% or down to 0%, which does effect the time it can operate in battery only. I have had it about a week, charged upon arrival (with battery heath on), and ran for 3 days, about 4-6 hours a day before it said "battery low." It does not shut off, just gives you a verbal warning. I charged it up, been running since that time. If course on the app you can see the battery level. But got about 12-14 hours out of the one charge, lights flashing while time, Bluetooth connection, and all different volumes. There is a long instruction book available from the app that tells you how to get the longest use, and with all the settings right, full battery, you could probably get 30 hours. For more normal use, 10-15 is probably more accurate. Plenty for most uses. And of course if you have access to electric, it can run forever. When it arrives, my spouse's first question was "do you need that?" And the honest answer is no, I don't need it, but it is wicked fun. I do need a microphone for work sometimes, and I do have music at work whenever I am there, and at home when I am home. If you appreciate music, this is a very high quality product, very good sound quality, and honestly a lot of fun. Certainly a 5 star product, even with its small short falls. ... show more

This Giant Ridiculous Box Makes a Tremendous Amount of Good-Sounding Noise
Okay, this thing is kind of insane. For context, I've DJ'd somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 weddings in my life, along with corporate events and plenty of other productions. I work professionally in video, film and production, and I've spent a lot of time around PA systems. I'm not going to pretend I'm an audio engineer, but I certainly know what good and bad sound sound like. The Sony ULT TOWER 7 sounds pretty damn good. First, understand how big this thing is. I'm 5'10" and standing vertically it comes up to around my waist. It weighs about 50 pounds. This isn't a Bluetooth speaker you casually toss into a backpack. This is a piece of equipment. And holy crap does it get loud. I haven't even felt the need to explore the limits of the bass yet because there's already an enormous amount of it using the normal settings. There's plenty of output overall, and the lighting provides a clever visual representation of the volume as you turn it up. Sony lets you operate the speaker either vertically or horizontally, and I could actually hear a difference between the orientations. That's apparently intentional because the speaker has dedicated horizontal/vertical sound tuning. There are even additional tweeters firing from the rear. For something like a tailgate, party or smaller event, there's an impressive amount of sound available here. My one concern in a crowded room is physical placement. Sitting directly on the floor puts a lot of the speaker below people's bodies, and bodies are wonderful at absorbing sound, particularly as you move up the frequency spectrum. In an event environment I'd want to think carefully about getting this positioned appropriately rather than simply dropping it on the floor in the middle of a crowd. That's also where I start scratching my head about some of Sony's design decisions. The ULT TOWER 7 has wheels, which it absolutely needs, and several excellent integrated handles. What it doesn't have is the telescoping luggage-style handle that I desperately want it to have. At 50 pounds, WHY? I'm a reasonably strong 5'10" guy who works out regularly, and getting this thing onto my kitchen counter just to experiment with speaker height was legitimately awkward. Give me a damn telescoping handle, Sony. There's a ton of functionality packed into it. You get Bluetooth, USB-A and USB-C, RCA input, XLR input and output, a 1/4-inch microphone input with its own level control, stereo pairing, Party Chain functionality, lighting controls and karaoke features including key and echo adjustment. I actually appreciate that Sony labels it "echo" rather than pretending this is a rack full of professional audio processing. This is an extremely capable consumer/prosumer party speaker, not a replacement for a professional PA rig. The physical volume control is another odd choice. It's built around the prominent ULT control on top and protrudes enough that I find myself wondering about it during transport. I would have preferred something more protected or recessed, particularly on a product that's specifically intended to get hauled around to parties and events. Those complaints probably make it sound like I dislike this thing. I don't. They're frustrating precisely because Sony got so much else right. The speaker is rated for up to 30 hours of battery life, has wheels, handles, party lighting, karaoke capability, a genuinely useful collection of professional-ish connections and an enormous amount of output. It's only IPX4 when used vertically, so I also wouldn't interpret this as something you can casually abandon outside in a rainstorm. I can legitimately see myself using this for events and even renting it out when somebody needs a simple self-contained PA solution without the hassle of a traditional speaker setup. At roughly $650, I expect a lot. Fortunately, the fundamental things are here: it sounds good, gets ridiculously loud, produces a ton of bass and offers enough connectivity to be useful well beyond playing Spotify at a backyard barbecue. I'm simultaneously blown away by what Sony put into this thing and confused by a few things they left out. But when I come back to the question that actually matters, which is whether this giant ridiculous box makes a tremendous amount of good-sounding noise, the answer is absolutely yes. ... show more

Sony finally has sub bass!!
I have the Sony SRS-700 and SRS-900 and this speaker sounds way better. Larger Sony speakers I've heard typically sound hollow and bloated because they mostly have mid bass and elevated mids in general, sub bass is cut early so you don't get the low notes. I haven't heard any if the ULT series until this one so this is based on the previous models ive heard. Of the two models I had the 700 sounded fine but it still sounded bloated because of the mids issue I mentioned. The 900 was pretty much a design mess. They gave it a dedicated sub woofer which sounds cool in theory but they also gave it two small mid speakers. The sub only played sub bass so they elevated the mid frequencies on the mid speakers to make up for the lack of mid bass but it just sounded hollow and bad. This speaker has a similar setup to the 900, but it has a large woofer instead of a subwoofer, the woofer plays mid-bass and sub-bass extremely well. The woofer gives vocals a very natural, full sound while still being able to play very deep sub-bass. This speaker also has two mid-range speakers that sound very good and handle loud volumes very well, unlike the 900, which gets super shouty at higher volumes. The woofer and midrange speakers have a very good crossover because they sound like a single speaker unlike the 900 which sounds like a cheap portable radio that you paired with a very good car subwoofer. The tweeters here are also well balanced with the rest of the sound. The overall sound here is very clean while still reaching a very loud volume. The bass is strong and fast and it gets very loud. The tweeters are not overly loud and blend well with the rest of the sound. The two rear tweeters do give you a better sound when standing behind the speaker. To me this speaker sounds more like a JBL speaker than a Sony which is actually a good thing. The build quality is top notch like the other two speakers i mentioned, Sony sometimes misses with the sound but the quality is always superb. The speaker has wheels which is handy but I have seen lots of people complain about the handle not being a telescoping version for easy travel. I don't think this speaker was really meant to be rolled, its meant to be carried, the wheels are just to help you move it around once you get it into a room. This also makes more sense because the speaker doesn't have a dust rating only a light water rating. There are two handles at the top but there is also a handle on one side because you can lay the speaker on its side, there are rubber feet on the side to protect the speaker. There are also rubber stoppers behind the front grill which should help prevent dings or dents on it. The speaker has a companion app which has several neat features like a sound effect pad and other DJ effects. It also lets you change the color to any color you want using a color slider. You also have mic input settings and multi connection options with Bluetooth. The best feature in the app in my opinion is the EQ option, its a 10 band instead of the regular three band Sony typically gives you, you can also tweak the EQ while in the ULT presets. For sound you have four presets using the ULT button. The first is flat sound which still sounds very good but keeps things light. The second is ULT 1 which gives you lots of sub bass, this mode is very similar to the "JBL sound" its like you are listening to something from the Partybox series, it sounds very good. The next one is ULT 2 which boosts the mid bass, this makes the speaker sound much louder than it is especially at low volumes, this preset gives you the more typical Sony, somewhat bloated, sound but adds deeper sub bass so it does sound better. The last ULT setting is LIVE mode which adds a slight echo to what sounds like the flat preset. One thing to add is that in the app there is a sound optimization setting that changes the sound depending on the location of the speaker using the built in mics, this mode helps a lot to keep the sound clean and mostly improves the sound but in rare occasions it may do the opposite. If the sound is weird after placing the speaker in a new location then temporarily turning the feature off might be a good option but I would turn it back on afterwards because it does mostly improve the sound. For inputs you have lots of options on the back, RCA, USB and Type C which can also be used to charge, XLR input and output and a 6.5 mic input. You can also stereo pair two of these or Sony connect to pair with other versions. I did read that Sony connect for these is only limited to the ULT models. Overall this speaker is very good especially for a battery powered party speaker. Im a huge fan of JBL but Sony is going all out with these ULT models, they should have gone this route a long time ago. The speaker gets super loud and does so while maintaining the super loud bass, the sound is much more fun than what I've heard from them in the past. The batteries are also replaceable which is awesome. ... show more

Wow just wow
This is something that just blew me away. I was skeptical about a single tower speaker system and what it could actually do, especially when it comes to filling an open space without sounding thin or muddy. Lo and behold, this has one of the best sounds you can have on the go. Yes, it is completely portable, so you just charge it up and take it wherever you want without worrying about finding an electrical outlet outside. It is an awesome sound system that truly redefines what a battery-powered speaker can accomplish. From the ground-shaking lows of the bass to the clarity of the highs, it is an all-in-one package. The dedicated ULT button delivers monstrous, physical low-end that you feel right in your chest, but it does not overpower or drown out the vocals thanks to the crisp tweeters and punchy midrange drivers. The three-hundred-and-sixty-degree sound dispersion actually blankets the entire patio or backyard evenly, so nobody feels like they are stuck in a dead zone. The ten-band equalizer lets you dial in the acoustics precisely for your genre of choice, and the built-in microphone, XLR, and RCA inputs make hosting impromptu karaoke sessions or plugging in DJ decks an absolute breeze. It is easy to use and remarkably easy to set up right out of the box, with instant Bluetooth pairing and dynamic party lights that sync smoothly to the tempo of the music. Yes, it is big, has substantial weight, and features built-in wheels, but it has got it all. The heavy-duty handle and rolling casters make transporting such a substantial cabinet surprisingly painless, while the rugged IPX4 splash resistance and massive thirty-hour battery life mean the party keeps rolling through pool splashes, outdoor dust, and all-night celebrations. For anyone wanting professional-level sound and true grab-and-go convenience in a single monolithic rig, this speaker knocks it out of the park. ... show more

High Powered Luggable Bluetooth Karaoke Speaker with Sony's signature ULT Bass Modes
Sony ULT Tower 7 Bluetooth Karaoke Party Speaker, Model YY7871E This is a huge, heavy, luggable battery powered speaker. It can use Bluetooth, single ended stereo analog RCA, balanced analog mono XLR input, USB A mass storage for MP3, WMA, and WAV, and USB C audio input. When connected via XLR, it can be daisy chained to up to four additional speakers, for a total of five connected speakers. When connected via Bluetooth and Sony's proprietary Party Connect feature, up to 100 connected speakers are possible. I was not able to test any of the multi speaker configurations, as I only have a single ULT Tower 7. It also has a microphone input for karaoke, but it can easily be used as a general purpose speaker. Unfortunately, I don't have a karaoke microphone, so I could not test this feature either. Unlike many rechargeable consumer products in 2026, the speaker came only 20% charged, and I needed to charge it prior to use. This is a very minor issue. I've connected this speaker via Bluetooth to both a 2026 Google Pixel 11 Pro XL and a 2025 Sony Bravia XR8 television. The Bluetooth connection works well and is very stable, with minimal latency. Unfortunately, this speaker does not support Bluetooth Low Energy Audio, which I consider an almost mandatory feature in 2026. This is a big miss in my opinion, and I hope Sony adds Bluetooth Low Energy Audio with a future firmware update. The other big miss is that it requires a proprietary square AC cable to charge. With USB-C PD supporting up to 240 watts of charging power, it seems like a poor choice to not support USB-C PD charging, either as only or alternative charging. When connected via Bluetooth to an Android or iOS device, the Sony Sound Connect app can be used to change sound modes, adjust Bluetooth settings, set the volume and lighting, and change other settings, including multipoint pairing, ULT bass mode, the 10 band equalizer, power saving, and various other modes. When connected via a USB C cable to my Pixel, it is recognized as a USB DAC, and the phone will semi automatically play music through it. I did need to manually disconnect Bluetooth on the phone before it would route audio to the USB C connection. The sound quality is broadly okay, but with way too much bass for my taste in most settings. It seems that Sony really likes that flabby, boomy bass, or at least they think their customers do. The various bass settings are separate from the 10 band equalizer. The bass modes are ULT1, ULT2, and Flat, quoting from the manual: ULT1 is a setting that emphasizes deep bass sound. ULT2 is a setting that emphasizes the sense of power. Flat is a setting that keeps sound true to the original sound. My interpretation of these modes is: ULT1 is best for actual party use indoors in medium to large rooms, or for low volume listening indoors where bass emphasis is desired. ULT2 emphasizes flabby, boomy mid bass that I particularly dislike in almost all cases, except maybe outdoors at maximum volume. Flat is best for moderate to loud volume listening indoors. I find that for indoor use, Flat is by far the best sounding for listening to music, while ULT1 works for TV or movies. ... show more

INSANE SOUND! Not For the Faint of Heart or Apartments (Unless You Want The Cops Called).
So, I didn't realize quite how large this speaker is. This thing is huge and is on the heavier side. Even my husband was like, whoah! This thing is built like a tank and is thoughtfully designed for some water resistance too. The ports on the back are all covered with a special plate that prevents water getting in. So if this is caught in some light rain or gets splashed with pool water, you don't have to panic. There's numerous handlebars and a back handle as well, which is super helpful given how much of a beast this speaker is. It does have one set of wheels on the base too, so is easier to tilt and move. This has some basic functions on the speaker itself, so you can connect to your device immediately and manage the lights and some minor sound choices, but there's way more options via the Sony app, including full color selection, various DJ type sound additions (which is actually really fun), custom EQ, karoake settings and more. This arrives with 20% battery and died after about 20 minutes of use. Once fully charged though, battery life is much better, but definitely won't be 30 hours worth with consistent, loud, high power use. You can turn on battery care settings and also stamina, which changes the lighting to help conserve power. The sound right out of the box is INSANE. You've got 3 setting options you control from the ULT button. ULT 1 is deeper low pass range (more bass focused), ULT 2 has increased power from ULT 1, and ULT 3 keeps the sound truer to the original. The bass is so deep you can not only hear it but feel it, even at lower settings. The sound overall is so rich that it sounds like a full entertainment system all in one speaker. Ive added a video clip of the pre-programmed sample music that this comes with, really just to show the lighting range, as you simply can't hear the bass range at all. This thing thumps with a total passion! It's honestly so loud with sound and vibration that if you live in an apartment or a townhouse you're probably not going to want this unless you have nice neighbors. We own a few large party speakers, but this Sony blows ALL of them out of the water. It sounds so good that my husband and I even bickered a little over where it was going to go (he wanted in his man cave, but that's where all of the other speakers are, so this is MINE 😆). This honestly sounds so dang good that it's given me a fresh appreciation and love for music again. It's even really fun to hook up via bluetooth to our Sony tv for movies! Even when it's not party time, now I get to enjoy daily chores and cooking with a little more gusto. ... show more

Big sound with easy tuning
This speaker is loud! The bass has real push, and it fills a room fast even before turning it up very high. Music sounds full, not thin, and the sound stays clean enough that I’m not fighting harsh highs just to get the volume I want. It’s the kind of speaker that makes casual listening feel bigger right away. It's definitely an awesome speaker for parties and events, it will fill any room with ease. The fact that is IPX4, means you can have it outside for events, of course not for too long if it rains heavily. The sound controls are a big reason I like it so much. The ULT modes makes a difference, so I can keep the bass heavy or pull it back when I want something more even. The app gives plenty of room to adjust it, but the front button is still easy when I don’t want to mess with my phone. It is a large speaker, and moving it takes some room, but the handles and wheels help. I love how much sound this thing puts out. Battery life has been as expected, no issues. You can keep it connected through its power cable. Bluetooth connection was pretty straightforward like any other device. Plenty of other input options as well. Pros: - Powerful sound with strong bass - Easy sound changes from the front button - App gives good control over EQ and lights - Handles and wheels make it easier to move Cons: - Big and heavy, but I guess expected for a speaker this powerful and this size ... show more

Fifty-pound party speaker that made me want a second one
I've been slowly building a personal DJ setup, and this is the kind of speaker I'd been looking for. My only complaint is that now I want a second one to run as a pair. Sound quality is strong. If you want more bass, there's a button for it. The 360 party sound spreads audio evenly around a space instead of firing it forward. Bluetooth works fine, and so do the XLR and USB-C inputs. I tested it with a phone, a computer, a direct out from a PC, and a hookup to a board. All of them worked without trouble. The lighting is a fun touch. It weighs about 50 pounds, and I needed help bringing it into the house. The handles and wheels are well placed and make it easy to move. The top panel is splash-proof, which is reassuring, but I'd still get a tarp over it quickly if rain started while it was outside. Battery life was good, but I never ran it dead, so I can't give a time. I also couldn't test pairing two speakers, since I only have one. There's an app for further settings, which I skipped because I don't like app-dependent features, so I have no feedback on it. ... show more
