  • Works even BEHIND the camera, Power-saver, easy to use
Works with Sony A7II - even from BEHIND the camera. That's awesome. Many other remotes require that you stand in front of it and point the remote directly at the IR sensor. Lame. But not so with this Sony remote. What a great little tool! "Great" because it does all the things it should do well: take photos remotely, start video (remember, you must put your CAMERA in video mode first), it lets you pull up Menu, and call up that good ol' histogram on your Sony camera all with the press of a button. I LOVE that this remote automatically goes into power-saving mode. This means you won't drain your batteries when you're not using it. The cheaper, simpler competitor remote here on Amazon doesn't go into auto power saving and that results in constantly dead batteries. Not so with this one. And "little" because it's really quite small. Some might consider it too tiny but Sony thought of putting a little cutout on the back of it that allows you to feed a little sling through it so you can put it on your keychain or attach a key charm to it, or even attach it to one of your camera bag's zippers. Very happy with this remote. It lets you do shake-free exposures, even long ("bulb") exposures, timed selfies, and it works from just about any angle, whether behind or in front of your Sony. I think it's worth every penny. ... show more

  • Exellent Remote Is A Real Help
Battery has lasted 6 years. Bought this in 2019. Just started using it again. It's truly a great device. Starts video recording, controls the shutter, as well as the other things it shows. I only use it to start and stop video from a Sony A7 III that is facing me. I use the camera to record my mug for tutorial videos. The remote is everything it's supposed to be. ... show more

  • Item would be excellent and get 5 stars if playback controls worked with camera unplugged from a tv.
I do like the remote and it is very useful. A great accessory for my A77. The angle of attack is actually better then I would have expected. I know that some of the aftermarket remotes seem to only work from straight on or slight of to the side. This remote will pick up from the sensor side slightly to the back of the camera without any problems. The angle from the side without the sensor is going to be limited by the size of lens you are using and how well the lens gets in the way of the sensor on the camera. Other things that affect the angle used would be reflective surfaces that could help out in getting the remote to bounce the signal at the camera sensor. Playback controls are only active when the camera is connected to a tv, and that seems to be normal. I'm not removing a star for that. 4 stars is a good product that a customer likes. What would make using a remote like this excellent and a 5 star + would be if a person could use the play back features while the camera is disconnected from a tv. I do product photography and find the remote very useful not having to reach to the camera whenever a new product is framed up. Sometimes pending on the item, I know that I will need to review the image just to make sure I'm happy with it, and not having to reach for the camera would be great. It's not that I'm lazy, just that I have days where I will shoot any where from 20 up to 80 items (approx 1-5 pictures per item), and then after that I have to edit all of them in PS. Very nice remote that I would recommend to anyone with a Sony camera. ... show more

  • Wow, exceeded expectations!
Wow, exceeded expectations! 1 Runs A6000 and A6500 camera from front or behind. Some reviewers say it only runs from the front or the side which is incorrect. 2 I like the 2 sec delay button for tripod work. 3 The remote zoom key will zoom the 16-50 power zoom kit lens very smoothly. BTW I gained a new appreciation for that lens while taking photos of kids and parents with Santa. (It worked better than my 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 55-210mm or 10-18mm for that purpose. It was not on a tripod, I had to run and gun in a small space with lots of people.) 4 I love that it can run the video even when the mode dial is set on A, P, S, etc. My fingers have never worked well with the camera video button. 5 It can view photos, zoom in and delete while the camera is on a tripod. 6 Menu key allows you to scroll thru the camera menu using the up, down, forward and back key. 7. Remote is the perfect size. It is actually smaller than it looks in the Amazon ad. 8. It can scroll thru all the display buttons for shooting and viewing. Very nice for checking the "blinkies" while on a tripod. 9. Can rotate the image orientation on camera. Well, this arrived in the mail an hour ago so there may be more than what I have described, very inexpensive for all that it can do. ... show more

  • Works on the A6400.
This remote is worth every penny for one reason, shutter button to take photos or start/stop videos. I have the A6400 with the 18-105 OSS G lens. Man is the zoom really slow with this remote. So yeah, probably won't be using it for zoom in videos. Super smooth but moves the zoom about 1mm per every 2-3 seconds. You'll get there, but it may be past your supper time when you do. I watched a few videos on it and it shows the zoom working much faster on other cameras so I don't know if it's just my model or if I need to change some settings on my camera. And being infrared, it really only works if you are standing in front of the camera or off to the side. Or maybe you can bounce the signal off a shiny car or glass to get it to work from behind the camera. Great for portraits if you have the camera on a tripod and you are standing off to the side trying to get a baby to smile. But it's perfect if you are doing a vlog and don't want to have to get up, lean over and start the recording. Which is why I bought it. For the price! Worth it. ... show more

  • Simple and light/small - so you can take it with you easily
I wanted a simple remote for my Sony a57 and though there are some cheaper options, I figured I'd stick with the Sony one. This allows you to easily take photos remotely (though somewhat line-of-sight, as it's infrared). You an take pictures instantly or after a 2 sec. delay (enough time to stash the remote behind you or in a pocket!). Additionally, you can start/stop the video recording using this remote. Note - the camera must be set to Remote Commander mode (on the a57, press the Fn button next to the display, select the Drive Mode, then set it to Remote Commander) and should be set/focused on the subject. There are additional buttons to control the camera if you've got it hooked up to a TV. These can control the playback and even allow you to delete photos. It's a great addition to the camera bag since I can be in the picture more often (camera on tripod) or even help setup macro subjects then snap a picture and still quickly adjust the subject material for the next shot. ... show more

  • Like some have mentioned the remote sensor on the camera ...
What I really was looking for in a remote for my a6500 was that 1) it's wireless and 2) could start and stop video recording. Anything else was just icing on the cake. This remote met both of my requirements so I gave it 5 stars. But it is not without its shortfalls. Like some have mentioned the remote sensor on the camera is on the front so it doesn't always work if you're behind the camera. Not really a issue with the remote itself but this does limit its usefulness quite a bit.The majority of the buttons does do what it's meant to do but their usefulness will depend on what camera you're using it with. On the a6500 anything button that involves seeing the lcd to use is useless because you can't see it from the front of the camera because it can't flip out. The zoom buttons that I thought I'll find useful didn't work that well even though my lens has power zoom. It's so slow it'll actually be faster to walk back to the camera to zoom. Again I didn't care about these extra features so I didn't knock the remote down because of them. ... show more

  • Difficult to set up
Not very intuitive. Couldn’t figure out how to connect it to my camera and I only needed it for one day so I returned it.
