I am not quite in the market for a higher end set of noise cancelling headphones, but when these were available at $130 here at Amazon, I decided to pick them up. Before buying them I read reviews and wasn't quite sure what to expect. I find the control buttons a bit fiddly - I am still trying to remember which one is which by touch, and not always getting it right. The noise cancelling does very well with road noise, AC systems, wind (and when we all get to fly again, I'm sure it will handle plane drone well). It doesn't do so well with higher pitched tones - like my daughters yelling. So, it's not entirely isolating, but definitely cuts down background noises. I can't really tell what advantage I get from the ambient noise setting (that is supposed to amplify someone talking, for instance). It doesn't seem much clearer than just turning noise cancelling off. I find the audio quality pleasing in general - I definitely hear things in music that I wasn't getting, for instance with Apple earbuds, or smaller bluetooth speakers. The battery life is just great. I listen regularly, and still get about a week between charges - it's very easy to just not worry about whether or not they are charged.. So, bottom line, particularly on sale, these seem to be a good value. The battery life is great. The noise cancelling isn't amazing, but meaningful. The sound quality is decent as well. ... show more

We’re absolute worst. Have had for a year and I hate them so much, they do not fit, constantly messing with them in flight (which is when I use them the most). Bluetooth forever f***** can never have them connected to two devices. And currently can’t get Bluetooth to connect anywhere but my iPhone. Even after hard reset. These over-the-ear headphones are very lightweight and comfortable to wear. They seemed to be designed to be operated while wearing them because they speak to you as you press the buttons, e.g. Power On/Off, Bluetooth Pairing/Connected/Disconnected, Noise Cancelling, Ambient Sound, etc. Press the power button briefly and it tells you the power level, hold the button a few seconds to turn on/off, and hold it for seven seconds to go into Bluetooth pairing mode. If you have Near Field Communications on your device, my cell phone has this capability, the Bluetooth connects and disconnects when held near the device. In the box are the headphones, and two cables: a headphone cable, and USB-A to USB-C cable. The USB cable is less that 8 inches, not sure why so short, it is difficult to plug into my charging transformer or computer. A 5-volt charging transformer is not included and it is not clear the desired wattage. It did take 7 hours to charge initially. It is listed as having a 35-hour playback time on a charge. The sound quality is very good, I play my music at very high fidelity and these headphones are handling the music exceedingly well. One thing that I wish Sony included is a case for the headphones. There are third-party cases available online. These headphones seem to provide many of the features of Sony’s higher end headphones at a more modest price point. I would certainly recommend them for everyday use. I tested the tree modes; Ambient, Noise Cancelling, and Off. We live on a busy street with much traffic, cars and heavy trucks, which was a perfect setting for the test. Noise Cancelling mode did a great job compensating for the exterior noise, the traffic is loud, and I could barely hear it. As expected in Ambient mode the microphones passed through the street sounds with the music, good if I were walking around and needed to also hear what is going on in the environment and listen to the music. Ambient off turns off the microphones so there is no pass-through sound, so it will depend on the outside volume and your music volume as to how much outside sound you hear. Ambient off also means that Noise Cancelling is off, so if you do not like the compensation that noise cancelling provides, this is your mode. I need to also disclose that I did receive these headphones at a discount in exchange for my honest review. I am pleased with the quality that these headphones provide at a very reasonable price. ... show more

Fun to Use

When I turn them on, they pair with my phone automatically. I love having them on my ears for this because when they power up, suddenly there is silence. The noises around me abruptly stop. I love this! In a noisy environment, quiet is a gift, and these headphones make every day a little bit like my birthday. Of course, you can turn off the noise canceling. I do that every once in a while to remember what I used to struggle with but not too often. In short, I adore the noise canceling. The sound quality is great. They do well in the lower registers. I note this fact because, in the past, that had been a problem with some headsets. The weight is good. I’m not aware of them weighing my head down as I have been with some other headsets in the past. I cannot tell you whether they are durable because I treat them as if they were made of glass because I like them so much and really don’t want to risk breaking them and having to wait for a new set to arrive after I re-order. I would definitely buy these again. (Truthfully, I *have* bought them again. They are so wonderful with my cell phone that I bought a set to use with my computer.) On the downside, after several hours of wear time, I like to take them off for a little while because the ear cups press the sides of my head a little bit too hard. (To be fair, I suspect the snug fit might be necessary for the noise canceling feature to do its work.) Not worth $199

I really like these headphones. I like that effectiveness of ANC. We'll have to see how well it works while mowing the grass or how well it works to block airplane noise. I like that it has button controls instead of touch as ALL touch controls are too sensitive. I do like that they fold flat, but I much prefer headphones that fold up instead of just flat. Since they fold flat, I wish they came with a hard case. The sound signature on these headphones, to me, sounds like the typical "Extra Bass" sound that Sony is known for. The mids are a bit muddy and the bass can be overpowering at times. I don't think these are worth $199 or $150. Even at $98, I am left wishing for better sound. If ANC is your main goal, get these. If you want ANC but don't mind sacreficing a bit of ANC quality for better sound, this is not the headphones for you. UPDATE: I have the JBL Tune 600BTNC (you can get the 750BTNC now, and they sound much better) and I wanted something better than JBL. These Sony left me desiring more. JBl/AKG/Harmon/Samsung, imo, make a superior lower end product and a superior super ultra premium product. In the middle is where Sony falls. These are not premium headphones or middle ground, these are going for the "budget conscious" (I hate that term because it really means nothing) that are willing to sacrifice a little sound quality to get ANC. Not me, I am not willing to shell out money and I am not willing to lose sound quality to get ANC. I know a good sounding ANC headphones exists sub $100 and I'll find it. After using these headphones off and on for 2 days, I returned them. Not worth the price to me. Save your money and get a JBL or shell out for the higher end Sony or Bose and you'll be much happier. ... show more

Great, but not flawless

The WHCH710N headset is wonderful. Sure, it's not flawless, but it's still a headset worth buying. At a retail price of $200, I've seen it on sale often for $100. That's a very competitive price for a headset with this feature set. The Pros: Excellent build quality. These are sturdy, well built, headphones. Although the majority of the build is plastic, in a way that's a good thing. Excellent sound quality. These headphones produce amazing sound, with a more flat sound profile. Good noise cancellation. The noise cancellation is good enough, but at certain angles, noise can leak in. Amazing audio controls. The controls are outstanding. With them also being physical buttons, it's far easier to control and handle without an accidental gesture activation. Outstanding Bluetooth connection. The Bluetooth connection is simply outstanding. I cant notice any audio delay at all, and it truly feels like a wired headset. The Cons: The leatherette ear cushions. They arent that comfortable, but that depends on the ear size of the user. If you have small ears, they will be fine. But if you have larger ears, you may have discomfort. I personally use (and recommend) the SteelSeries Arctis ear cushions as a replacement. ($14.99+fees USD) Clamping. Depending on the users head size, it can feel a bit clampy. It doesn't hurt, but you can notice it feels snug if you have a bigger head. Ear discomfort. This headset has a strange black cube that is under the ear cushion, in the middle. I do not know what it is for, but again, depending on the users ear size - this black cube may dig into your ear, causing discomfort. ... show more
