I don't buy separate speakers, I usually listen to music off my TV speakers and through headphones, so I was uncertain it'd be worth it to buy an individual speaker like this. However, I loved the design so I decided to take a leap since I was able to apply a coupon on top of a sale. Oh my goodness, this speaker is fantastic for the money I paid! Although I am not an audiophile I think it sounds incredible, and the candle light flickering is a great night light that I've needed for some time. It looks so nice on my table or my windowsill even though it totally looks like a space age bong - and that's honestly a feature given I already got to make jokes to my friends about it. I only wish it came with a longer power cable by default, but I might get a second one at this point. ... show more

I really love the sound and style of this speaker! The light gently illuminates my desk and the Bluetooth functionality works perfectly. I only wish it would be a little louder when in a very large space, but it is loud enough for my purposes.

Considering item is called Sony Glass Speaker, it's disappointing that the "glass" tube is actually an acrylic resin. I guess marketing decided Sony Plastic Tube Speaker doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Nevertheless, it does look very nice and probably not as fragile as it appears. For the size, sound quality is pretty good, and for my intended purpose, which is setting a nice dinner atmosphere, it works very well. The shadow that it casts on the ceiling is also pretty cool. This model is the third generation and is made in China. First one was made in Japan, not sure about the second. Price has gotten substantially lower with each generation. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. The Sony LSPX-S3 (“S3”) is a great sounding, aesthetically pleasing (even bordering on cute) piece of audio artwork. As with any specialized audio device, no one speaker system can be all things to all people. The S3 is designed for ambient, background audio, and it is designed to be a unique decorative piece. Despite its diminutive size, the S3 can produce audio loud enough to envelope an entire room with clear sounding audio. The S3 is best suited for placement on tabletops, end tables, mantles, etc.. It is not a headbanging audio system meant for parties or for irritating your neighbors. It is a portable device, but with its glass stem, it should be considered fragile and handled accordingly. The S3 can function as a faux candle, as a speaker, or as both; thus, this device has more functionality than just as a speaker. All audio tracks must be passed to the S3 via a Bluetooth connected mobile device; there is no WiFi capability. Pairing of two input devices simultaneously is possible, but only one can broadcast at a time. Pairing to another S3 speaker to create stereo, and linked illumination, is also possible. Up to 200 Party Connect compatible speakers can be linked together to form a network of speakers. At a moderate volume and light output, and with bass boost off, the battery has a claimed 8 hour life, while at maximum volume and light output, and with bass boost on, the battery has a claimed 4 hour life. The S3 is charged using a USB-C cord, which is included. You must supply your own charge block. The lighting system has two modes: lighting, and candle. The brightness on each mode can be adjusted, and in candle mode, the flickering effect can be adjusted to one of four modes, including being linked with music. All of these settings can be set from the speaker or from the Sony Music Center app. The S3 has a sleep timer that can be set from the speaker or from the app. From the speaker, the timer can only be set for 60 minutes, while from the app, the timer can be set for different lengths. The only audio settings available is bass boost, which increases the amount of bass output. I preferred the audio with bass boost on. There is no equalizer, so the highs and the midrange tones are not adjustable. High tones from the tweeter are emitted from the glass tube. Apparently the surface area of the glass tube aids in broadcasting these tones outward. Midrange tones emanate from the speaker located under the tube, and the bass tones from the speaker located near the bottom of the system. These two speakers broadcast audio in a 360-degree direction. For such a small package, the audio is great, and it fills my living room nicely.
