This speaker does everything you should need it to do especially if you are a gamer if you have the new Xbox series X Consol and you have a TV capable of 4K HDR VRR DTHD And or 120 FPS in -1440 P then the sound bar is for you it took me about three days and I could not find anything online Sony was very helpful and did what they could to help me but also was not very aware being at the fact that I do not have a TV that is from Sony I have a TCL6 series also I would highly recommend the TV as it comes with a thx certified game modeSo after hooking the soundbar up I find that the audio quality is magnificent I also find that it does everything for your buck if you looking around at sound bars that can support 4K HDR pass through it will be very hard for you to find one in this price range that does Dolby Atmos and that does DTSX master audio at first I was hooking the speaker up with a HDMI that I bought that was 2.1 high speed ethernet to my EARC mind you the subwoofer is also EARC And I was able to get good audio through that without my TV speakers but something was wrong I noticed that I lost VRR and I lost auto latency mode on my gaming console after many frustrating at times to fix this it’s only just occurred to me if you want to set your Xbox to have the best performance and your speaker to have the best performance you must said the Xbox to HDMI one behind the TV and then separately set up the sound bar to EARC set The sound bar to TV that sound bar will come with three modes TV HDMI and Bluetooth you’re not using HDMI because you did not plug in the HDMI to the back of the speaker so therefore said it to TV and you will notice that via the Dolby Atmos app on the Xbox you’re not capable of both Dolby Atmos and DTSX master audio by the way I just want to go ahead and add this in I noticed a significantly loss of video quality when I had the speaker hooked up to the Xbox why is this you may ask while the EARC input or output needs to use all of its been with in order to create the Dolby Atmos sound but when you have the TV connected to the Xbox completely and a different HDMI input it is able to use all of the band with the Xbox requires and also using all of the band with the audio requires therefore dedicating each HDMI to two different bandwidth so that you can stream and hear everything the way it is supposed to beI’m very grateful I bought this speaker after looking at many reviews online it is amazing how ungrateful people are in these times that we’re living in you have to be grateful nothing is perfect in life but I find this speaker is pretty good if you’re worried about the speaker for any means necessary you should put a three-year warranty through Amazon that way your covered either way is the speakers covered by Sony for one year I hope you guys enjoy and hope I was able to help someone be good to yourselves and be good to your neighbors and have a great day

This Sony Soundbar with subwoofer sounds great! EASY to set up and use. My tv does not have the correct bluetooth for this soundbar but setting up with the supplied HDMI cable was a breeze. The controls have a small learning curve but easy enough to get up and running quickly. The package contains the soundbar, subwoofer, two power supply cables, the remote with batteries, an HDMI cable and all the instructions and warranty cards. The remote is easy to operate and the controls on the soundbar and subwoofer are also a snap to use. You can set the center speaker on a higher volume so the dialog is much easier to hear for us hard of hearing folks (thanks Sony). Connecting the subwoofer to the soundbar via bluetooth was super easy. The Immersive Av function really fills the room with great sound and there are several settings via the remote for cinema, standard etc.. The only nit I have to pick is I think the subwoofer could be a bit more robust but I just received the unit and have not learned all of the adjustments yet so I will try to update when I have mastered it to see if I can increase it's output. I would highly recommend this unit.

I got this as an upgrade to an older Samsung sound bar HM55 2.1 system. I have a Samsung TV. As a result, there is a convenience of compatibility and flawless operation when you use items of the same brand. However, the problem was the sound wasn't clear. So I was in the market for an upgrade. This item intrigued me based on a review by UrAvgConsumer. He seemed to rave about it and it's new release for Sony. I did have concerns with a Sony speaker working with Samsung TV. I bought it because of the reviews stating clear dialogue and the simulated Dolby Atmos capability. The latter is something that would cost a premium that I didn't want to spend. So it's more expensive than your standard 2.1 sound bar and cheaper than a full blown Dolby Atmos system. Out of the box, it's a nice speaker, typical Sony quality. Installation was pretty simple and all the required cables, including HDMI and optical were included. As with most people who tend to have problems, the installation is the tricky part to get right if you want to fully utilize the capabilities of of the speaker. To get full capabilities, i.e. Dolby Atmos or DTS, you have to use HDMI only. Furthermore, you have to connect it correctly: TV ARC HDMI to HDMI OUT on the sound bar. This alone allows your speaker and TV to stay in sync. If you have multiple HDMI inputs on your TV, this allows all of those inputs to output sound to the sound bar through the TV. Lastly, this will enable Dolby Digital, DTS, or Dolby Atmos support as all of these are provided only via HDMI data. But there's a CAVEAT. To support these sound formats, your input sources must support these sound formats. For example, my Tivo only supports Dolby Digital, my Samsung only supports Dolby Digital or DTS, my XBOX One supports Dolby Atmos. Keep in mind, for this speaker you're paying a premium for Dolby Atmos. So if you don't have a source to provide this then it's a potential waste of money. But unfortunately, that's just half of it. Once you are clear on what your sources are capable of, you need to setup the speaker correctly. Overall the manual for this speaker is not great but then again most aren't. You really have to read and understand all the settings to get the most out of your system. Don't get me wrong.. you'll get sound just by hooking it up. But you may not be amazed or think "what's the big deal?" because the sound would be no better than a standard 2.1 soundbar if not configure correctly. I won't go through the details but I recommend you set the Audio to either "Dolby Speaker Virtualizer" or "DTS Virtual:X" and never touch the remote again. These settings are what you're paying the premium for. The speaker has other "modes" like "Immersive AE" or "Cinema" or "Music",etc. These are all 2nd order sound enhancements that, to be frank, didn't seem to make the sound all that better or different. And if you switch to this mode, it completely takes you out of the premium modes of Dolby/DTS, which means you have to go through the multi-level settings on the remote to reset it. Configuring the speaker via the remote is a pain in the a**. It's not intuitive at all. The other thing is the display on the speaker is WAY TO SMALL, even for a person with 20/20 vision. My old Samsung had a really nice big display where you can always see what input or mode you're in. Pros: - The dialogue sound quality is very good. I get very clear sound when there's talking. - If you have the right content Dolby Atmos (or DTS) simulated surround is pretty cool. BUT it's NOT MIND BLOWING. This is where I feel the review on UrAvgConsumer was misleading. I feel like it depends on the person. Reminds me of those pictures back in the day where it looks like a bunch of dots but if you stare at it long enough you suddenly see a 3D dinosaur. So simulated Dolby/DTS surround is like that... if you sit and listen long enough, all of a sudden your mind/ears start hearing things from around the room. But it's not consistent because I feel your mind is constantly adjusting to not be "tricked". Again, this will ONLY work if you're watching content that has Dolby Atmos supported. You will not be hearing your evening news in magical surround sound with this. I'll just say there were moments of nice surprises where I'm watching a movie and I go "woah". - You DO NOT need to manually switch between Dolby or DTS via settings if your content supports one or the other on the speaker. The speaker will detect and switch to the correct format based on the HDMI input (you do need to make sure you are setting "bitstream" and not PCM). - If you want to pump up the volume to get that movie theater booming sound, the speaker will do a decent job shaking your walls. The bass is pretty solid from the sub woofer. - Sub woofer is wireless and is always on... there's no link issues that I've experienced. - The volume goes to a 100 and typically I'm around the 40s for normal viewing. I've gone up to mid 50s for some movies.. Beyond that it's too loud. The point is that the system has plenty of power if you like it loud. Cons: - It's expensive for what you get. To be fair, I did not go and test a bunch of different content with Dolby Atmos to get the full experience. Stuff I tried were the usual Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Video, etc. I'm sure there's a movie out there that can blow your mind but that would be the exception in how I'm using the speaker. - There is some weird issues if one of your TV sources is a Chromecast. This took me 2 weeks to figure out. For me, I have a 1st gen Chromecast plugged in. And as a result my TV would lose sync with the sound bar (maybe this is a Samsung TV issue). I almost returned the sound bar because of this. Imagine re-programming the speaker settings and unplugging the TV/Soundbar every time you wanted to watch TV. So just be aware that your input sources could cause problems. - When you change channels, there will be a disruption and delay in sound. I think this happens if the sound format is different between channels and the sound bar has to re-detect which sound format it's in(?) This could bother folks but I'm ok with it. - I think the sound bar works best with a Sony Bravia TV vs. other brands. You definitely lose out on the "eARC" functionality given this is a Sony proprietary feature. There have been minor quirks where I have to reset the sync between the TV and sound bar. It's not often and most of it may be due to my Chromecast. TIP: to reset the system just make sure you unplug both TV and sound bar for a bit and replug. This usually resolves my sync issue. Is it worth it? I'm not sure. I kept it as I used a bunch of gift cards to bring the cost down. And my main requirement was clearer dialogue vs. my old soundbar, which it does well. Other than that, the Dolby stuff is a nice-to-have but I think it will leave most people unsatisfied. I think for Dolby Atmos, it's either pay for the $1k+ models to get the best experience or stick with standard audio. This speaker attempts to fill the in-between gap and as with all things, you get what you paid for, which is neither here or there for this speaker. -

While I have only experienced 3 soundbars in my life other than this one, this is definitely the best one I have experienced. It sounds significantly better than the Vizio 5.1 channel soundbar bundle that I was previously using, even without having the satellite speakers. This was also extremely easy to set up. Just plug everything in, turn it on, and it just works. Sounds are clear and fill the room. The bass is at a place that is perfect for me but might be a little too weak for some people. Finally, for about 90% of the content I have watched the dialog has always been easy to hear. Even in high action scenes. I have not had much opportunity to listen to anything with Dolby Atmos yet, but the demo sounds great and fills the room well. I will update the review if I notice any issues. I just wanted to put one in for this since there aren't many reviews for it. The price is a little hefty, but if you want good sound without the hassle of setting up satellite speakers, the cost might be worth it.

My family was very excited when the Sony soundbar arrived and we couldn't wait to test it out since we watch a lot of Netflix shows and movies these days. It has a beautiful design and was well-packaged. It did take some time for my husband to figure out how to get the sound to play after connecting it, but once he got it to work, we were blown away by how much crisper the sound is and how much deeper the bass is with the subwoofer. Even in the dialogue portions of the movie, the sound quality is noticeably clearer. The bass in songs really comes out a lot more with the soundbar as well. Because of that, we don't need to turn the volume up as high to hear everything clearly. The soundbar comes with a separate remote to turn it off and on, but I like that you can control the volume with either the tv remote or the soundbar remote. I didn't realize how much of a change it would make and we really love it! It really elevates our home movie nights and is definitely worth the investment!

I bought a Sony x900h/x90h TV bundled with this speaker. First, I love the sound it produces. I don't have any subwoofer/bass issues. When it works, movies sound pretty good though I'm still trying to figure out the best option since sometimes I can't hear the dialog and this is supposedly good at it. Now my main issue is this soundbar doesn't play nice outputting sound via EARC/HDMI. My issues with sound occur via TV streaming apps and also with my PS4. I have to reboot the soundbar to get sound back. Now my work around that I was recommended by one of the Amazon customer service is to use Optical Link. This solution worked for a couple of weeks but that's not the case anymore. If you have a Sony TV x90h or whatever similar, in the Audio out setting change from Auto/Hdmi to PCM/Digital (something like that) and you keep all the primary function of using the HDMI (start up with TV, volume control via tv remote) BUT you lose Dolby Digital Plus (and ATMOS). Eh.... I don't know if this is a good workaround personally, even if OPTICAL gives better audio you're not getting the features you paid for. I have the newest firmware but it didn't fix it and if you google audio cutout or no audio and soundbar, the issue is still out there and hasn't been resolved for many. It's hard to decide whether or not to send it back and get something different (JBL soundbar is what I'd consider instead) I'd research into how compatible it is with your TV (even if it's a Sony) before buying it. Sound wise, it's pretty epic when you crank it up (not so much when you're trying to watch something late at night and the volume is quiet, can't hear dialog) and Spotify, wow, sounds totally different on this. I think you're better off committing to something more, like Sony's flagship, or their sub 300 soundbar. This is in the middle and it doesn't really bring a lot of value if you have inconsistent performance. Kinda ruins a movie if the sound cuts out randomly. If it works for you though, lucky.

I would give 4.5 stars were it possible, but went with 5 just because overall it is a solid bar. Sound quality is very good and the remote is easily navigable. Setup gave me some issues due to user error - when it says to disconnect the power to the TV prior to plugging in the sound bar, do it - the setup instructions should put this in bigger print! I had a Samsung 2.1 sound bar that sounded almost as good (very similar quality) as this sound bar at about half the cost of the Sony, but I got a Sony Bravia TV and wanted to pair it with a Sony. If you are not an audiophile (and I'm not), there are sound bars out there that are less expensive that will please most people. That said, I am happy with my purchase - It fills the room with high quality sound. I have it on a shelf under my TV that does an excellent job of putting the sound where it seems like it is surround-ish. If you have this option I recommend trying it both open and semi-enclosed as in the photo. Don't judge my dirty carpet - I just put together a desk and styrofoam got everywhere!

I can’t believe all of the positive reviews that this sound bar has received. I recently purchased my first tv since 2014. I settled on an LG CX OLED. Being paper thin there is not much room for speakers. Anticipating this we started experimenting w/ sound bars to different types of HTIB. We tried two sound bars that either had terrible lip sync issues or were so underpowered that the tv speakers outmatched them. Moved on to a full 5.1 HTIB by Polk and had some issues. After reading many reviews about this Sony HTIB being a great middle of the road setup we gave it a shot. Easy set up, some subwoofer connection and arc connection issues, very clean to look at but fairly simple process. We were shocked at how bad these speakers are. We tried several movies and settings on the soundbar and nothing helped the sound. Very hollow and underwhelming. At 400w I’m shocked how weak this set up is. From delivery to set up to boxing it up for a return it took us 30 minutes. To say we are disappointed is a huge understatement. The reviews glow about this system filling your room w/ rich sound. I have no clue how anyone could have a positive experience w/ such a sad Sony HTIB. To add to the weak sound we did have some connection issues w/ arc and the subwoofer. Trust me, this is not worth your time or anywhere near the msrp.
