Sony nailed this camera! As a professional videographer, I'm always on the lookout for great compact equipment that fits my 'run & gun' style of shooting. Every camera on the market (including those that cost exponentially more than the AX-53) have their pros and cons. The AX-53 does handheld recording very well. It lacks manual controls, but there are work-arounds when necessary to achieve what you want. Quite honestly, this was no disappointment as this camcorder is in the Prosumer category. The average buyer for this camera would never consider utilizing manual controls. The BOSS system works as advertised and produces excellent results. I've been using this camera regularly to shoot B-roll for many of my projects and I've been pleasantly surprised by the media this camera produces. Sony's optics are excellent. AF has performed as I expected and it produces a warm, color-rich image with very little tweaking. I'm truly hoping Sony builds on this platform and releases a larger sensor in a compact form to replace the aging AX-100. Low light performance is average for a sensor of this size but it's been better than I expected, although that was not a priority in my purchasing decision. As far as the Bundle here goes, I purchased it only for the extra batteries and back-up SD cards. The tripod is garbage and I wouldn't use it for anything other than a fill light. I wouldn't trust placing your investment on it and leaving it unattended. If you're willing to spend this type of money on a camcorder, then I believe you would also invest in a 'decent' tripod. ... show more

I couldn't believe the price of this bundle. It isn't that much more than the camcorder by itself, and comes with a lot of very useful accessories, so much so that I find this bundle to be a steal. The camcorder itself is very nice, a definite upgrade over my old sony Digital8 camcorder. I don't currently own a 4k TV, but I've been recording all my content at 4k at 100Mpbs. It looks stunning on my 55" 1080p TV, and I imagine it looks fantastic on a 4k TV as well. The tripod is really nice, the feet rotate so you can put it on a surface that isn't 100% flat and it will be ok. There is also a little level on the side so you can easily level your camcorder. The little tripod is pretty neat as well, and will support the weight of the camcorder. The lens kit is really neat, though I haven't had a chance to play around with it too much. I keep the CPL lens on mostly to keep dirt and other things out of the main camera lens, but it also helps keep the glare down when recording in areas that have glare. I tried cutting out and using the screen protectors but found those to not work really well, so ended up not using those on my camcorder. Haven't tried out the lens cleaning kit either. The bag is really nice and fits in everything I could need. The SD cards are really nice, and it was cool they come with a little pouch to put them in. I'm getting a little over an hour of record time per card. It is always nice to have extra batteries. The runtime on the batteries is around 2-2.5 hours, so having a couple extra on hand is always good especially for long days out. I have been VERY happy with my FDR-AX53, and extremely pleased with Beach Camera as a provider. (I had made the order for this bundle previously with Focus Camera, and they jerked me around for almost a month. After missing two deadlines for important shoots, I finally canceled that order, and ordered from Beach Camera instead. My stuff was here in 3 days! Upon arrival, I found that one of the three batteries for the camera was faulty. I sent it back, and Beach Camera made good on the issue by sending me not just one battery, but TWO! That's great service. Therefore, I highly recommend this company for their responsiveness and professionalism.) And the camcorder is sweet! It has a lot of great settings on "auto," and then you can get even more creative with "manual." Moving around the menu was a little challenging as first, especially because you cannot shoot stills if you are in 4K movie mode, and there are some other limitations on stills if you are using the intelligent focus settings. But once you get the hang of it and master the basics, the resolution, color, and clarity are magnificent. And the ability to shoot low light is absolutely awesome! ... show more

I like this camera. But I don't know if I would recommend it. It works for my uses, I'm an indie filmmaker and average videoguy. I do like the ability to change many settings manually, and I do like the presets as well. Intelligent Auto is great as a preset, does pretty much everything for me. I would do research on the menu, effects, etc. that this camera offers. The features may not be enough, or they may be too bloated for you. I probably wouldn't buy it again but I'm satisfied for what I paid for. Also it's got a great zoom! All of the extra stuff is fine too but I never used the lav mic, the tripod, or the colored lens. I'd recommend just the camera, the batteries/charger, and the sd card. Get an actual tripod. ... show more

I bought this kit. I think I bought this before there were any reviews on this kit. I expected the camera to be awesome, but I wasn't sure about the rest of the kit. The bag and other things are so-so. But the battery is pretty decent and lasts almost as long as a factory battery. And they give you an external charger also. I was worried about them sending a cheap memory card. But the memory card is quite excellent. I was also worried about how lon it would take for me to get the camera shipped. But I got it in a few days. Overall I am very pleased with this camera kit and the seller. Something you need to be careful about are some sellers are selling the PAL version for cheaper. But if you live in the US you will want and need the NTSC version. Which is this camera. This camera does 24P, 30P, 60P, 120P etc. The PAL version does 25P, 50P and 100P. Make sure you get the correct version for you. ... show more
