Features

  • 20.1 MP Exmor R APS-C (Super 35mm format) image sensor with wide dynamic range
  • S-CinetoneTM for a cinematic look straight out of the camera without grading
  • Flexible ISO, Cine EI Quick and Cine EI Log shooting modes for optimized image quality
  • This incredibly compact and lightweight ultra-wide-angle 11mm APS-C prime offers dynamic perspectives, outstanding image quality, large F1.8 aperture as well as fast, precise, quiet AF ideal for still and video content creators.
  • The small size and low weight of the lens makes it a perfect match for compact APS-C as well as Super35 E-mount cameras. Also thanks to a refined internal focus mechanism, the lenss length remains constant while focusing for ideal balance and handling. You can move in close to the subject, right down to the lenss minimum focusing distance, and shoot movies or stills without being restricted by changing lens length.
  • An 11 mm field of view and large F1.8 aperture make it easy to shoot subjects against sweeping background with beautiful bokeh. That also makes this lens ideal for vlogging as the wide field of view helps capture all of the scene even when the camera is held at arms length.

  • You pay for what you get
Set: Base Style: Body only
I teach video and certify my students in premier pro, we have FX3 at the school. Dont’t believe anything you hear about the low light capabilities of the FX30. Pair it with the right lens (something a stop lower than 2.8) and you will get the same quality from the fx30 you do from the fx3. Save yourself $1500 and get the APSC body. Use what you save towards good glass and you will be amazed! Best camera I have ever owned ... show more

  • Killer camera—small package.
Set: Base Style: Body only
After filming 3 features on the BMPCC4K, I swapped out my rig this summer and went in on Sony. I started with the FX30 (with a plan to move on to the FX6 later this year and build up an all-Sony cinema package). DOWNSIDE: I miss the straightforward (logical?) menu on the Blackmagic, as well as its large screen & built-in focus peaking. UPSIDE: the FX30’s larger sensor size and better color science. Also it grips well in the hand, feeling much more solid than the plastic shell of the BMPCC. I’ve combined it with an all-Tilta cage/top handle/mini matte box rig setup and 7Artisans lenses and the images I’m getting from tests are amazing (haven’t pulled it out on a real film shoot yet, but will soon. ... show more

  • Good image quality and tracking autofocus
Set: Base Style: w/ XLR Handle Unit
Things I like...I get good results recording 4K XAVC S video onto a V90 SDXC card. I shoot in SLog3 and apply a display LUT to the LCD and to color correction in Davinci Resolve. "Flexible exposure" mode lets the camera set parameters which you can override and reset to manual. Touch autofocus sets lens focus on a particular screen region and toggles manual focus. A push on the center dial switches back to autofocus. Facial tracking is very good. You can sync the internal clock with an LTC timecode device using appropriate cables. 3d party E mount lenses are available. The camera is smaller and lighter than most competitors. Things I don't like... The camera doesn't record RAW video internally. There is no EVF. The online manual is very confusing. I found a YouTube user video that was much better. The XLR handle doesn't fold into a small package and the preamps seem noisy. Instead, I use a small Rode mic mounted on the hot shoe and plugged into the 3.5mm mic input on the camera. Sony G series lenses are good but expensive. CFast Type A cards are very expensive. To use gyroscope data for image stabilization in 4K you have to subscribe to the Sony Catalyst non free version at $200/yr. That's outrageous. Gyro stabilization and RAW recording are included with Blackmagic cameras at no extra charge. I'm happy with the camera overall and carry it around to lots of places that I wouldn't take a larger camera. I'm learning to use it on a DJI RS3 mini gimbal. My other cameras are too big for that. This camera may be a gateway drug to the FX3 but it's larger sensor requires larger lenses. I'll stick with the FX30 for now. ... show more

  • Great overall cinema camera! One major flaw… (And a second one that may be user error)
Set: Base Style: w/ XLR Handle Unit
This is my first camera, and I knew going into it that it would have a big learning curve; but I was up to the challenge! I love the expandability of this Sony body! Also, love the multiple card slots and its ease of use. Ive had it for a little over a month now and have taken some beautiful video and photos. My biggest concern about this camera is that it freezes, A LOT… When I’m doing interval Timelapse’s, or when I leave my camera on for a long period of time, it freezes. Then I have to remove the battery, and put the same one back in to find that I’m still 50+% left on the battery. This shouldn’t be happening on a camera that boasts the ability to be left on without overheating in colder than room temperature conditions. Doesn’t matter if I’m inside or outside, it eventually freezes with an ample amount of battery left. I’d love to give this camera the 5 stars it deserves, but I either have a lemon, or this camera is flawed when kept on for long durations (2-3 hours; not that long). If there’s a fix for this, I’m all ears, but for now I’ll just be waiting for Sony’s customer satisfaction guaranteed fulfilled promise 😕 Secondly, the creators app on iPhone is great, but every time I’m interval shooting a Timelapse and try to access my camera through the app, it freezes the interval. This gives me lapses of time where it skips and ruins the Timelapse all together when viewing it in post. I’m almost about to invest in a wireless monitor just so I don’t have to fuss with the app, but then again, that’s more money out of my pocket for a solution that should be seamless being that it’s Sony branded. That’s all for now folks! Really good camera, but I might have a lemon??! ... show more

  • This camera took my work to another level
Set: Base Style: Body only
I never shot on cameras with full frame sensors. So, I don't know what I'm missing, which is a good thing. This camera produces great photos and beautiful video footage. I really feel the results I get from grading the S-Log3 footage took my videography work to another level.
