    • After 2 seasons of use....easy to navigate, great bluetooth connection, plenty of power.
Edition: Receiver
About the only negative I will mention is that the connection lines are kinda light gauge, probably <14g. It has a 10amp fuse and I'd say the wire would melt before the fuse would blow unfortunately. Why be so cheap on the connection wire when the rest of the package seems quite adequate? How much could the next size or two up actually cost extra? Otherwise, it's a reasonably priced unit for a 19ft Yamaha SX192. Display is easy to read and operation is pretty straightforward. If any quirks comes along I'll update. Can't talk of longevity, but here's to hoping. One star off for the light gauge connection wires. UPDATE - after two summer seasons of usage this unit is working VERY well. It pumps enough RMS to feed stock JBL 6 1/2" speakers x 4 on a 2015 Yamaha SX192. Completely satisfied as the OEM Clarion, if available, would be >$200, and IT only lasted 3 seasons before giving up the ghost. Although the wiring, as previously mentioned, is somewhat a light gauge, it's still providing adequate "bump" to the speakers so I cannot complain. Bluetooth connection is stable to Android, cannot comment on Apple connections. There's NOTHING to dislike at the $100 price point. Bumping up my rating to 5 stars!!!! ... show more

    • Nice Marine Stereo!

Put this unit in my 27 bowrider replacing an older Sony unit. The unit is much smaller in depth due to the lack of the CD player. It has a wiring harness with all the leads marked by color coding for what position (front/back-left/right) and polarity. I can see the display just fine in the sunlight so no problem there. I paired it with 4 Infinity marine speakers and the DSXM55BT drives them well. Cranked up I can here the music while underway. The Bluetooth connects well with no issue and radio stations tune in clear. Overall, I feel this is a real nice unit for the money, installed easily, manual is straight forward and once you get the hang of the controls/menu it's fairly intuitive. My only complaint is when I shut the batteries off on the boat the unit loses its presets, but it's fairly quick to re-memorize them with the 6 preset buttons and that is not the fault of the unit. I would have no problem recommending this unit and it does have pre-outs for an amp if needed to expand or add a bass speaker. The RM-X11M is the optional wired remote the manual says that goes with this unit. ... show more

    • Great radio for the price
Edition: Receiver
Replaced our existing boat radio with this radio. It works great, sounds great, and easy to install.

    • So far so good
Edition: Receiver
Quality marine stereo. Installation was easy. Sounds great. Pairing a phone via bluetooth was easy. Brightness is good. Easy to read screen. The only thing I don't like is the UI. The menu system is not intuitive. It's fine once you figure it out, but it's an odd combination of button presses to get to the menu item you want. ... show more

    • Great marine ready radio that gets great reception and has clear sound
Edition: Receiver
I was hoping for a direct wiring swap with an older Sony radio, but that didn't happen. So I had to rewire from an existing radio setup to this one, which actually went quite well. The mounting carrier for this radio was a little unnerving in the beginning to me, but proved to be fine after I saw how small and light this radio was compared to the old one. I was thinking I was going to mount a carrier with some screws into my helm and then slide the radio in, well no, the carrier just has some push out tabs that hold to the helm and work great. sound quality and reception are both outstanding. I do not play extremely loud, but have cranked it up and do not have distortion usually associated with doing so. ... show more

    • Two brand new units fail in two month period: DON'T BUY
Edition: Receiver
UPDATE ... Bottom Line Up Front: DON'T BUY SONY MARINE PRODUCTS. Corrosion formed over two weeks on a brand new unit ... enough corrosion to void the manufactures warranty. I can only assume that the advertising on the anti-corrosion coating is EXTREMELY exaggerated or that this is a manufacturing defect (my contention with them). After this experience, I will not even CONSIDER a Sony marine ANYTHING. It is NOT manufactured correctly to handle use on water. This radio was a disappointment for a very specific reason: It failed within a month of first usage. Even worse, the warranty REPLACEMENT unit failed less than a month after installing it. The first unit's failure was the inability to leave demo mode, i.e. making it useless. The second unit's failure was more spectacular ... a blown fuse on the water leaving a nice toxic smoke behind the control panel. This was followed by the blowing of a replacement fuse back on shore when power was reapplied. Obviously, something in the unit has a major short -- the second fuse blew immediately, produced some arcing, and a nice puff of toxic smoke! Kudos to Sony on the first replacement process. No so good on this second replacement. At least it's under warranty (and I bought an Amazon extended warranty, too). When it worked, the sound was good with plenty of volume without distortion. Bluetooth with an iPhone worked fine but it was slightly cumbersome getting them paired. It was easy to read in the bright sunlight and fairly easy to operate. Tuning FM could be a challenge but once I got it going, it wasn't that difficult. If I were to do this over, I would NOT buy this radio. Instead, I would spend the additional money on a Sonichub 2 to work with my Lowrance unit and put a plate over the hole in my boat's dash. ... show more

Install it on my motorcycle. Receiver quality and function are good. Great value for the money

    • So NOT buy if you don’t have constant power to the radio
Edition: Receiver
The installation and functionality are as expected, so I won’t focus on that. Sony makes good products. However, I was surprised that unit does not have any built in memory (usually done with a small chip). This is terribly inconvenient if your boat radio isn’t “hard wired” to the battery. Like many boats, mine has a battery switch which I turn off when not using the boat for days or weeks. This cuts power to the radio. So when I switch the battery on to use the boat, the radio reverts to factory out-of-the-box settings. That means all Bluetooth devices are lost (and need to be repaired), as are all settings, EQs, and saved radio stations. This would have been prevented with a small memory chip, so I suggest buying a radio that has one. ... show more
