Description

The ZV-E1 is Sony's first vlog camera with a Full-frame 12.1 MP1 Exmor R image sensor that is optimized for 4K and delivers 15+ stops of latitude, low noise, high sensitivity, and gorgeous full-frame bokeh. It can record 4K movies with direct pixel readout and 10-bitdepth and 4:2:2 color sampling using Long GOP or All Intra compression, making it possible to grade for fuller, more natural gradations while generally providing greater editing freedom. Cinematic Vlog Setting provides an intuitive way to create scenes that look like feature movies. By choosing a Look, Mood and AF transition speed, anyone can create cinematic vlog footage that ideally matches the scene and creative intent. The Cinematic Vlog Setting includes "Look" options such as S-Cinetone that can enhance skin tones, "Mood" options that can emphasize specific colours, and the AF transition speed that determines how quickly autofocus will switch between subjects. New features such as AI-based Auto Framing, Framing Stabilizer, and Multiple Face Recognition join the popular features enjoyed in other Sony ZV cameras, like Product Showcase setting and Background Bokeh Control, to delivery Sony's most powerful and refined ILC camera for content creators who desire to record and create content of the highest quality.

This has been a great video camera for me. Everything has been fine except for one single hiccup. Doing a long interview (around 50 minutes) 4k 30fps in a room around 85 degrees Fahrenheit with no air movement is too much. It did overheat. The camera was new to me at the time, so I didn't know how hard I could push it. I heard of the possible overheating from watching many YouTube videos, so, thankfully, I did have a cell phone recording at the same time, so I didn't lose any of the interview. I turned it back on immediately and was blowing on the back of the camera for the last 10-15 minutes of the interview to keep it cooled off. Honestly, even the smallest breeze does seem to be enough to keep it cooled off. Other than that one time I've never had any issue.     • Overheating makes this camera an absolute joke.

I received this camera today. I don't shoot professionally, and I know cameras at this price bracket are probably overkill for what I use them for. That being said, this camera is an absolute joke. I immediately charged it, put in an SD card, and started taking some video. I took less than 25 minutes of video total. I shot maybe 15 of those minutes on 4k60, literally the only real selling point on this camera in my opinion. I then maybe shot 10 minutes of 4k24 in cinematic mode or whatever. The camera actually froze and lost a video in cinematic mode after recording 1 minute. It overheated in 4k60 in about 7 minutes. I shot hand held in an ambient temperature of 71 degrees. I know some reviewers got videos far longer without overheating, and maybe some of that had to do with using a tripod, but this is an absolute joke. I had originally planned on putting this in a cage, given the fact the camera itself has the ergonomics of a power brick, probably similar thermal regulation as well, and this might solve the issue. I don't really want to risk that though, and this is a ridiculous issue at this price point. Aside from that, on a more subjective level, the colors really are not that good and the interface sucks. I will probably end up getting the S5IIX when it comes out and just deal with the 1.5 crop in 4k60. I really am taken back by how terrible my experience with this camera was. ... show more

I have had the Sony ZV-E1 glued to my hand since it arrived in the mail. I have shot BTS and some scenes for a commercial shoot that we did, I have hosted a photographers meetup and used this to take photos, I have shot thumbnails for YT videos, created vlogs, and recorded an hour long podcast episode with breaks every 20-30 mins. I was worried when I bought this camera that it was going to be some gimmicky vlog camera but after doing extensive research and watching pretty much every Sony cam video made I decided it was worth the risk. As someone who is a run and gun shooter this camera is amazing for a grab and go situation. Now that companies are also starting to create rigs that fit this camera I am working on getting a small rig cage and kit so that I can also build it out. Even without the cage though this is also the perfect camera to run off of a gimbal, behind the scenes, a primary or secondary camera, or pretty much whatever your creative needs are depending on the situation. The intelligent auto feature in this camera makes it feel like you have a virtual assistant and the fact that the menu is so customizable makes it a really enjoyable efficient camera when shooting in manual as well. This camera is over criticized and underrated. The people who talk bad about it never owned one and only reiterated what online reviewers said without actually using it. This camera has taken me through travels in the deserts of Texas, whole day music video shoots, and several sets. Not once has it overheated. This camera's power is underestimated not only with it's beautiful sensor, but also the features it has like it's mic (the best onboard mic I've had on a camera) the ai auto framing, the variable shutter, and the stabilization. Also, it's form factor is perfect because you can make it as small or big as you want with a cage. This camera has changed my life, not only in film-making, but how I see the world, and how I can use this tool to show it. I heard a lot of reviews online about the camera overheating, but I never had that issue. Honestly, even if it did, the beauty of this camera's sensor beats everything, from the dual native ISO to the amazing SLog 3 profile. I love the small form factor that helps me when traveling, documenting, and even gives more flexibilities on film sets. Great sensor in a mediocre package. It overheats really fast. The internal mic sounds great when it’s AI has it pointed in the right direction, which is about 70% of the time. The dynamic active stabilization is almost good enough not to need a gimbal… almost. I wish I’d bought the A7siii or A7iv instead. ... show more
