  • Missing parts
There were no instructions for how to assemble the harness. I had difficulty. Realized the back belt wasn’t included. Called company — had to leave a message — and 3 days later still no return call. Otherwise, product works fine.

  • Good Professional Sprayer
I used my previous Solo sprayer for hundreds of gallons and 7 years before it malfunctioned. The sprayer is easy to pump up and the pivoting handle is good for storage. The pressure gauge is interesting but not much practical value. Eventually a leak will develop at the hose at the bottom of the sprayer. This can be resolved by replacing the plastic clamp with a metal hose clamp. A complete selection of parts, repair diagrams, and repair instructions are available on-line. There are a number of special parts that can be purchased to improve the sprayer. A deluxe Solo harness will replace the standard harness which isn't very good for continual use. A check valve can be installed to prevent dripping between the lever and the nozzle. A brass or stainless steel or carbon fiber wand can replace the standard plastic one. A check valve can be fabricated to stop any leakage out the top of the cap. If the sprayer came with all these features I would give it five stars but it would then not have a competitive price. For most users it is fine as it is. All a professional needs to make it acceptable is the deluxe harness. ... show more

  • Good unit overall, used to spray 18 acres
I use this sprayer to keep my dog runs free of fleas and ticks on an 18-acre property. I am spraying about 2 acres. Generally, it takes 2-3 refills to cover that much territory. I would rate the product an additional star if the straps were better padded and the unit was easier to lift over my shoulders (the straps tend to be hard to adjust and therefore hard to get on). The sprayer itself does a very nice job, and I had no issues with the adjustable nozzle. No parts have come off or needed to be tightened in a few months of use. ... show more

  • Solo backpack a winner
The Solo 425 Deluxe is a great performing sprayer. Glad I got the deluxe model as it has a pressure gauge, a brass nozzle, and padded shoulder straps. I use it for herbicides and it reaches far enough to spray blackberries with enough volume that I otherwise could not reach with my old small hand-pump sprayer. The hand pump works really well and is easy to operate without taking the backback off. Obviously it is heavy when filled to capacity, so I only put 2 gallons in which lasts a long time. Finally, the Solo is easy to clean. Great tool! ... show more

  • 1 Yr+ Followup
I had a Northern Tools rechargeable sprayer that couldn't handle Roundup because it was too caustic. I replaced it with this 'manual' Solo sprayer and it works great. The ergonomics are great and the pump handle, which is adjustable, can be put in a convenient location. I like the adjustable spray nozzle and also the fact that the maximum pump pressure can be changed on the unit I bought. I also confirmed it will handle Roundup, although I can't imagine why anyone would sell a sprayer that doesn't since it's so popular. Very good design at a good price. Now that I've had this for over a year, let me add these comments. I spray diluted Roundup 1-2 times per month and the sprayer started leaking down my back and legs after just over a year (warranty had just expired). However, I contacted Solo and they sent me a rebuild kit for them. Kudos for doing this. However, it's now a few months later and it's leaking again. Upon taking it apart, I've realized there is a seal that is poorly designed and will, in all probability, continue to fail. I will notify them of this, but will look for another manufacturer of a similar backpack type sprayer. ... show more

  • Not as easy as I thought
I love that I only have to fill my sprayer once or twice to do the entire yard. And I love that I don't have to use one arm to carry a heavy tank. However, it is difficult to get on my shoulders when it's resting on the ground and it's not the best balanced on the ground with the hose and pump sticking out all over the place. Would have been nice if it had some kind of handles or straps to lift it off the ground and put it on a table so that I can get it on my back. It's too heavy when it's filled to sling it over my shoulders like a back pack. The little plastic clip that holds the shoulder strap to the tank broke the first time I tried that. Would also be nice if the hose didn't get stuck under the stand when trying to put it on the ground. Once I have the tank filled and on my back the rest is duck soup, except that it leaks from the pressure gauge. I have yet to figure out how to fix that and think I'll be calling the manufacturer. Not sure if this is a defect or not. ... show more

  • Read a lot of reviews before choosing
Very happy with this unit which I've used a number of times now. I like the large capacity. The harness is acceptable to me although could use a cross strap on the front so it doesn't slide off the shoulder. The piston pump works extremely well and it is easy to maintain pressure with my left hand while spraying with my right (also reversible). Several pressure settings with a nice gage on the nozzle head. Durably constructed overall, a very nice quality unit... Good job Solo! ... show more

  • For Personal Use Only
I purchased several of these backpack sprayers. They were to replace my shindaiwa sprayers sp300 3-gallon, sp415 4-gallon & sp518 5 gallon sprayers. Newer versions of shindaiwa sprayers do have different numbering. I do believe the solo sprayer fit better on your back as they are concaved for your back. The gauge is helpful if your into pressure & droplet size depending on your tip size. I felt like the straps were cheap & the strap connector to the bottom of the frame are plastic. I am use to metal clips. As I am 6 foot tall the hose length is not long enough. Windy days I try to keep the spraying tip closer to the ground the prevent wind drift. At my height & the length of the hose I need to bend over so the tip is only a few inches from the ground. NOT so good for my back. this model has a 4 foot hose as I am use to a 5 foot hose. If your a few inches shorter most likely not a problem. Over all for myself I will be going back to shindaiwa or even a better product. Please keep in mind as I run a small/medium size landscaping Co. We service about 95-105 customers, average size property 3/4 acre, 4 time annually. If you are looking to purchase this product for personal use or you have a few customers this sprayer will be fine for you for years to come. ... show more
