  • Highly Effective... But, Just Don't Make The Mistake I Made Highly Effective... But, Just Don't Make The Mistake I Made
Folks, I am extremely pleased with this solar powered, indoor and outdoor bug zapper! I guess the first thing one should know is that although this is a solar powered bug zapper, it can have its battery charged via USB (the cable is also included for this purpose). Perhaps you're going through a rather cloudy overcast day, or a day in which it's raining but will not rain through the evening. These are occasions where one might choose to power the unit utilizing the USB. It charges quite well (the indicator light will change from red to green... mine was fully charged in about 3 hours). I would also recommend USB charging for the very first time you use the product, to be sure that it charges properly and is ready for its first evening trial. That is exactly what I did, I set it up in my kitchen, plugging it into the USB before even attaching the ground posts. I didn't attach the ground posts because I decided that for the very first night, I was going to completely darken my kitchen, and then set this up on my kitchen island. This was very simple to do, it is actually intended for indoor or outdoor use and I wanted to monitor it the very first night, as well as see if I had any flying insects in my home. Incidentally, the actual assembly of this product should take less than 5 minutes. It's extremely straightforward and easy. Well, the good news is folks... I have no flying insects in my home. It caught nothing... Although, it glowed that magical, ethereal blue light all night long, from dusk to dawn (the unit can be set to on, off, or auto, which would cause it to go on and off at dusk and dawn automatically. Because it will be running on solar, that will be how I will choose to utilize it). I would say that it stayed in the on position lit in my kitchen for about 11 full hours. I was impressed, this was a longer period of time than I expected considering how much output it has. So the very next morning I was excited to rush into the kitchen and see if I had actually caught anything. I had not, which is actually reassuring. And then I added the lawn posts to the unit (which took an additional 5 seconds) and then placed it in my backyard, in a spot close to a patio on the back of my home... I turned off the patio lighting, but left my solar fence lighting in place. This would give a nice dark area for the bug zapper to really show its stuff. Boy did it ever... show its ability... to wipe out the flying insects in my quarter acre backyard! (It was an insect slaughter)! Now, if you actually read the title of this review, I have stated that I made a mistake. I'm going to tell you what I did... and prevent you from making the same error (because it's an easy one to make). The first night, when I was charging the unit in my home via USB, I opened the USB port by pulling on the little oval shaped silicone closure which prevents water from getting into the electronics whilst the unit is outdoors. It fits securely in place and will prevent water from getting into the unit effectively. But here's the thing folks... That little silicone nubbin is connected to the unit with a silicone post made of exactly the same material... but much much thinner, and that post is supposed to sit inside a needle point, pin sized, hole. Well, I didn't know that when I pulled on the USB silicone closure... and as a result, I pulled the entire piece away from the unit. It is not possible to put the silicone post back into the super tiny hole within the unit that would hold the oval piece of silicone in place... It simply cannot be done. This is akin to trying to thread a needle, with an overcooked piece of very thin spaghetti... It cannot be done! (Please refer to my photos. I have marked them up so you can see exactly what I did... and, what not to do). Now this is not tragic folks, ultimately I simply took a scissor snipped off the post and there is enough tension to hold the silicone cover in place to prevent damage to the electronics. However, it does not stay in place if you do not cut this post off, if you have mistakenly removed the entire silicone oval from the unit as I had. I would also recommend that if you do in fact make the same error that I did, it would be a good idea to cover the oval silicone with a small piece of black electrical tape as well. Although tension holds it in place rather effectively, mine did pop off as I was walking out of the house into the backyard and fortunately I noticed, and was able to retrieve it. Making that slight adjustment, it now no longer moves. The unit itself... Amazing! This is now the community "Death Star" for flying insects in my neighborhood. After just one night, my unit is coated in one evening's worth of an electronic, bug zapping... free for all! This bug zapper works extremely well at its intended purpose of killing biting and flying insects within the area of one's property. It works great! And the fact that it is solar... is the absolute cherry on this exterminating cake. This is truly a "set it and forget it" solution... without pesticides, to rid biting flying insects from annoying you while you are trying to enjoy your property in the evenings. The product can be used indoors or out. It can be used with the lawn stakes or an included chain if you prefer to hang it (indoors, it can just sit on a counter). The two included solar panels are of an excellent quality and gobble up the sun's rays, powering the battery swiftly and effortlessly. Considering how well this works, I was a bit surprised at how affordable this product actually is. I love this thing! Highly recommended!✅ ... show more

  • working great in the chicken coop working great in the chicken coop
Bought this for my chicken coop to keep the bugs down this summer and I can't believe how good it has been. It's been in there for a little under a week and it won't be much longer before it needs cleaned. The solar panel can either be put on top with screws or set further away from the unit. You not only receive a lot of wire to set it away (easier to install inside and run the wire outside) but the wire disconnects from both the panel and the zapper so you can change it out for a longer wire. I placed my panel just outside of the coop on a ledge that doesn't get any weather, but gets a lot of sunlight. The zapper is hung up inside of the coop away from the chickens so they can't get to it. It turns on when the solar panel sees there isn't enough light left, and off in the morning. It has a switch so you can either choose that mode, always on, or off. There is also a place to attach a usb cable to run it all the time without the solar panel. The actual battery for the unit is in the zapper rather than in the solar panels so you have a lot of options for how to use the zapper and how to use the panels, as in the panels could be used for a different project and the zapper still work. I suspect it turns on when it detects that the solar panels aren't charging it any more. it doesn't look like the bulbs can be replaced so once it stops working it seems you will need to purchase another one. It's a high voltage system so I'm not sure we should be ripping into it anyways. ... show more

  • Good solar-powered bug zapper with a practical outdoor design
This is a nice outdoor bug zapper, especially if you want something that does not have to stay plugged into an outlet. The solar panel setup is one of the main reasons I liked it. The panel is fairly large for the size of the unit, and I like that the angle can be adjusted so you can position it toward the sun instead of being stuck with one fixed direction. That makes it more useful if you are placing it near a patio, garden, fence line, deck, or other spot where the sunlight changes throughout the day. The unit has a sturdy outdoor look to it. It is not overly large, but it feels substantial enough for regular backyard use. The protective cage around the light keeps the zapper section enclosed, and the overall design seems better suited for outdoor placement than the smaller plug-in style bug zappers I have used before. I also appreciate that it can be used without running cords across the yard, which is safer and much cleaner looking. The purple light is bright and visible in the evening, and it gives the unit that classic bug-zapper look. It is best placed a little away from where people are sitting so the insects are drawn toward the zapper and not directly toward your table or chairs. I would not expect any bug zapper to completely eliminate every mosquito in an open yard, but this is a helpful addition if you are trying to reduce bugs around a patio or outdoor seating area. Another nice feature is that it is solar powered but also appears to have a backup charging option, which is useful if there are several cloudy days or you want to make sure it is charged before using it. For outdoor products like this, I always prefer having more than one charging method. Overall, this is a useful and convenient solar bug zapper. The adjustable solar panel, cordless design, outdoor housing, and bright attractant light make it easy to place and use. It is a good option for patios, backyards, gardens, and other outdoor spaces where you want a low-maintenance way to help cut down on flying insects. ... show more

  • PhatroyYee Solar Bug Zapper Outdoor with Dual Solar Panel PhatroyYee Solar Bug Zapper Outdoor with Dual Solar Panel
This is my review and experience with the PhatroyYee Solar Bug Zapper Outdoor with Dual Solar Panels, PhatroyYee 4500V Cordless Waterproof Mosquito Zapper, Auto On/Off, USB-C & Solar Powered Electric Fly Zapper Trap Killer for Patio Backyard RV Camping CONTENTS… Bug zapper, two metal ground stakes, one metal hanging chain, one solar panel, two screws for mounting the solar panel and the hanging chain onto the bug zapper, USB A to USB C charging cable (39”), hanging chain (33”), black plastic cleaning brush (5”), solar panel extension cord (116”), and a user manual in English, German, Italian, Spanish, and French languages WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT…. • Large dual split adjustable solar panels 2X (11” X 3 5/8”) • Three ways to mount this bug zapper; table, stakes, or hanging • Bug zapper turns on a dusk and powers off at dawn • 4500 volts zaps the life out of any bug, you will hear it • Solar powered or USB C charging for those rainy days where the sun cannot charge it fully • IPX5 rating means a device is water-resistant, but not fully waterproof. It can withstand sustained, low-pressure water jets from any direction, but cannot handle being submerged in water • Three power options, On, Off, or Auto (on at dusk and off at dawn) • No spraying of chemicals on skin, clothes, or on lawn and furniture • Bug zapper can be hung with included chain, into the ground with the included stake, or just on a table • 4000mAh rechargeable battery • Very easy to put together and working within 5 minutes WHAT I DID NOT LIKE ABOUT IT… • Wish there was a removable panel at the bottom to remove all the carcasses of the insects instead of shaking them out by flipping the unit • No warranty specified on item description or in user manual • Rechargeable battery is not user replaceable so once fully discharged, it will end up in a land fill • Mosquitoes are attracted to CO2, not UV lights, right? Lights usually attract moths, gnats, beetles, and flies… • UV lightbulb is not replaceable CONCLUSION…. The 5-inch ground spikes keep the roughly 2’ x 15” bug zapper firmly in place. Cleaning out the dead bugs with the small brush was a bit of a hassle since I had to work between the grids, and once they fell to the bottom, I had to pull the zapper out of the ground and shake it vigorously to get them out. I haven’t spotted any mosquitoes yet in the Mid-Atlantic, but I’m sure they’re lurking nearby, ready to attack. After a week of leaving the zapper outside, all I found were crispy remains of moths, beetles, and gnats—sadly, no mosquitoes. For now, I’m giving this bug zapper 3 stars and will update my review in a couple of weeks once the mosquitoes show up to see if it catches them before they catch me. ... show more

  • Zaps 'em by the dozen (but do not use near gardens)
I recently set up this solar outdoor bug zapper, and I’m quite impressed with its performance. The setup was straightforward. Basically just stake it into the ground and let it charge in the sun, and it was ready to go. The solar power means no cords or complicated installation, making it convenient to move around or place wherever you need it most. Once it’s active, the zapper works quickly and efficiently, attracting and eliminating mosquitoes and other flying insects with minimal effort. In a single night, this thing zapped and zapped and zapped and zapped! One of the biggest plusses to this unit is its coverage. A single zapper is powerful enough to handle an entire backyard, keeping patios, decks, and outdoor seating areas noticeably more comfortable and insect-free. The difference is dramatic, and it makes spending time outside far more enjoyable, especially in the evening when mosquitoes are most active. The only caution I would give is to avoid placing it near gardens or flower beds, as it can also attract and kill beneficial pollinators. That's my big caveat for ALL bug zapper, actually. A lot of bugs are beneficial! We shouldn't be killing them all! So choose your placement carefully. Otherwise, in backyards where skeeters are a constant problem, this is a big help. Aside from that, it’s an excellent choice for homeowners with larger outdoor spaces, those who enjoy evening barbecues, or anyone looking for a low-maintenance way to control flying insects. Overall, it’s an effective, eco-friendly, and easy-to-use device that delivers on its promise and makes outdoor time much more pleasant. Thumbs up. ... show more

  • Reliable Solar Bug Zapper That Runs All Night and Survives Heavy Rain Reliable Solar Bug Zapper That Runs All Night and Survives Heavy Rain
I live next to a flood channel where stagnant water attracts mosquitos during certain times of the year. A bug zapper makes a noticeable difference, and this solar-powered model has been one of the most effective I’ve used. The built in 4000mAh battery powers the zapper from sunset to sunrise. The switch offers Auto / On / Off, and leaving it on Auto has worked perfectly — it turns on at dusk and shuts off at dawn without any intervention. I fully charged the battery via the USB C port before installing it outdoors, and several days later it’s still running all night with solar charging alone. One of the standout features is the dual solar panel setup. Because the panels are separate from the zapper and include an extension cable, you can mount the zapper in a shaded or convenient spot and place the panels in direct sunlight. I currently have the zapper mounted on top of a 4 foot fence using two short pieces of ¾″ PVC pipe as sleeves, and it’s been very stable. It also includes a hanging chain and two ground stakes that screw into the legs. I haven’t used the stakes because I don’t want my dog lifting his leg on it, especially at night, but the options make it flexible for different setups. We’ve already had a heavy rainstorm, and the waterproofing held up extremely well — even the electrical connector stayed watertight. The rain also helps keep the solar panels clean, which is a nice bonus. Overall, this is a well designed, durable solar bug zapper with excellent battery life, flexible mounting options, and reliable all night performance. If you need a hands off solution for mosquito control, this one delivers. ... show more

  • Effective Solar Bug Zapper That Makes Outdoor Evenings Much More Comfortable
I’ve been using the Solar Bug Zapper Outdoor with 2 Solar Panels for a few weeks now, and overall it does a solid job of cutting down the mosquito and flying insect problem around my patio and backyard. Setup was straightforward right out of the box. I like that it comes with dual solar panels, which helps it charge faster and stay powered longer overnight. The waterproof design also seems legit so far—it’s been through a couple of heavy rains with no issues. Performance-wise, the 4500V zapper is noticeably effective. You’ll hear it working at night, especially during peak bug hours. It doesn’t eliminate every single insect, but it definitely reduces the swarm enough to make evenings outside much more comfortable. The built-in light sensor is a nice touch since it automatically turns on at dusk and off during the day, so there’s no need to constantly manage it. It works well in multiple settings too—I’ve tested it on the patio and also brought it along for a camping trip in the RV area. It’s lightweight and easy to hang or place on a flat surface. A couple of minor downsides: it takes a full day of strong sunlight to charge properly, and it’s most effective when placed in an open area rather than tucked under cover. Also, like most zappers, it works best when it’s the main light source nearby, not competing with other bright lights. Overall, it’s a reliable, low-maintenance solution for reducing mosquitoes and flying insects outdoors. Not perfect, but definitely worth it if you spend time outside in bug-heavy areas. ... show more
