    • Strong steel shelf brackets, mount carefully

Black epoxy-coated steel, 5MM thick, these are very strong. Although they give you two different kinds of wall expanders, I plan to get out the stud finder and ensure that I bite wood with the screws. A fine craftsman I worked with once told me "make 'em a strong as they look, because one day someone will find out how strong it is". These shelves look sturdy, people will assume they are. Like just about all shelf brackets, when they say 8", that refers to dimensional lumber, so the actual measure is about 7 1/4". Keep that in mind if you plan to cut and edge laminate hardwood ply for these. The holes are step-countersunk to accommodate the screw heads and leave a flat surface underneath. There is a single hole centered for the eye hooks they supplied, and it is threaded for the screw hook. The intent is to use the nut supplied underneath to lock the hook and prevent the screw from working up into your shelf. The wall side holes are also countersunk, 3 screws per each. I got one extra 1 1/2" wall side screws and two extra 3/4" shelf screws, so don't lose these, finding a match will be tough. The heads are a bit smaller than the counter-sink, so you won't get the clean fit shown in the image. I don't care, so no points off from me. A good deal on a set of four really nice brackets, I plan to use them inside a fussy garden shed I'm building, they'll look wonderfully rustic, and as I said, really strong. ... show more

Sturdy iron shelf supports. Very strong and a comparable item at the local hardware store costs much more. I used it to hang bookshelves. The piece was long than my 10" shelf so I just used a grinder to cut it down. Works great. I painted it to match the wall and shelves.

    • Heavy duty brackets are 0.205” thick

They left off two of the most important dimensions: thickness of the material and height of the upturned end. I wanted to use these with 11 1/2” wide by 3/4” thick boards, so I needed those dimensions. Just give me the thickness and I will decide if the bracket is “heavy duty”, since that term is overused and can mean anything. I also wanted the height of the upturned end so I can decide if slotting the board would work. Well, the measured thickness is 0.205”. I say that is beefy enough to hold up a 11 1/2” wide shelf and its contents. The upturned end measures greater than 3/4”, so slotting the board wont work. I will cut off the turned up parts instead or use thicker boards. The brackets have holes in the horizontal section for attaching the shelf, so the upturned part is only for looks anyway. Perfect size shelf brackets that are support a good deal of weight with no problem. Small enough to not be obtrusive but with its 3 hole mounting allows for ample anchoring to hold shelves and items well. The media could not be loaded. These brackets are well made, heavy duty and have a nice matte finish. They come supplied with two different types of wall anchors, screw in drywall and the type you would use in brick or concrete.
