A fabulous purchase that solved my problem of too many books for floating shelves on my crappy NYC apartment walls to handle. Leaving my experience because I'm so grateful to the other reviewers for providing useful info before I ordered! I had a lot of books to store. I wanted the appearance of floating shelves, but the walls in my new apartment are incredibly crumbly. Even very heavy-duty wall anchors would not be able to support a shelf packed with books. I've also dragged bookcases from apartment to apartment for too many years and decided to sell the ones I had before this most recent move. We liked the look of this setup and decided to go for it. Compared to $150+ bookcases, this was a super economical and really beautiful decision. It has that wall-mounted look I wanted, while using the floor to support the structure. As renters we can't put any holes in the flooring, so I did not even screw this into the floor, and it's perfectly sturdy even loaded with 200+ books. These pipes are sturdy, beautiful, and easy to assemble. With a cheap cordless drill, the provided wall anchors, and a slightly above-average home repair skillset, I completed the job from start to finish in about 1.5 hours. You do need a helper for the installation to hold the pipe in place as you put the screws in. Definitely listen to fellow reviewers and assemble the pipe LOOSELY before marking your holes and installing the pipe. I assembled it tightly, then loosened it by turning each pipe two full rotations. The purpose of this is so when you install the pipe, you can twist it up or down to stabilize the structure. I couldn't quite wrap my head around why looser was better than tighter, but I trusted the reviews, and I'm very glad I did. Once I put in all the screws, I just tightened the pipes by turning them either up or down as needed, and the thing locked up perfectly. I bought 4' long, 3/4" thick common pine boards from a lumber shop and asked for the cut exactly 10" wide. As other reviewers said, these fit perfectly between the ridges of the circular pipe joints. Fellow book collectors, just know that you'll need either bookends or tall books to prevent standard-height books from falling off the ends of the shelves. You can see in the photo I used 13" high hardcover librettos for this purpose, though I'll be keeping my eye out for bookends. I hope you go for it! I may add more pipes to the top in the future, I like these so much.

These bookshelves came out fantastic. I was looking for a solution to do floor to ceiling shelves in my home office, and these look very industrial and awesome. Ive got many 100s of pounds on them and they are solid. I used, 2 x 10 x 12 wood, stained it, let it dry a few days then mounted it. This size wood is extremely study, and I highly doubt any bowing will happen ever. Many reviews tell you to build the whole support at once, then to attach to the wall, this is not possible when doing wall to wall shelves, as there would be no way to slip in the wood shelves. I honestly had no trouble building each shelf level one by one. Some important Cons first: • The reviews and comments all talking about how bad the mounting hardware it comes with is are not exaggerating. Using the screws and anchors they supply, you will end up with shelves on the floor. They even came semi rusted straight out of the box. Seriously, dont use it! I bought some #9 x 2.5 T25 screws, these worked incredible. • If you are looking for a true black look, these will need to be spray painted first, they are a worn grey tone, which I personally liked. • These can be finicky and difficult to align and secure. Not so difficult you need to hire someone, but difficult you might need to take a few breaks. If you can use a drill, a stud finder and a level, you got this. The Pros: • They look great. • Cheapest costing solution to add shelves to large walls I could find. • Fully customizable, I made them 7 shelves high, added extra spacing in the center to allow a TV to fit and did some creative shelf skips to allow for larger objects. • Sturdy. They can hold me up if I try and climb them. Overall, very recommended. I would recommend using 1 inch pipe clamps to hold the wood to the shelf.

I love this industrial shelf! I was very impressed with how well it came packaged, I could almost barely get to the contents it was so well packed. I almost didn’t purchase this product because some of the negative reviews about color description and assembly. These pipes are a beautiful, high quality finish that I was looking for. The assembly was very easy, instructions were very clear, and I did the assembly from start to finish without the help of my husband. (I’m a 5-6 on a scale of handiness, 10 being the highest) I purchased this piece to replace a solid white bookshelf we had in its place. This piece changed the whole entire look of my living/dining room. I can’t stop looking at it, it’s so beautiful and I love it! I purchased common board shelves from Home Depot for $12. I purchased 2 1x10x6 boards and had them rip 4 boards to 32 inches. I have the pipes spaced 27 inches apart. The spacing for the shelves are 9 3/4 wide. The 10 inch board fits perfectly as it’s not quite 10 inches. I stained the boards classic gray. I had the pipes assembled in about 10-15 minutes, leveling the pipes and installing them probably took me an hour. Thanks for a great quality and affordable product!

Amazing! Soo easy to use and it looks so cool. Although it didn't come with instructions (which I assume throw some people off), it was really easy to put together. The pipes are easy to tighten and loosen, so it was easy to get them all equidistant from the wall and floor. The only downside of this product is the included screws and wall anchors. The anchors did not work at all and just fell behind the drywall, but luckily I had some from previous projects. I also found the diameters of the screws' tops to be every so slightly too small, so I used some bigger screws to make the flanges more flush with the wall. Other than that, it's a great product, and much cheaper than getting the pipes at Home Depot or some other store. I just had to buy some wood at Home Depot, stained it with General Finishes Gel Stain. The best part is that they pipes can be placed as far apart as you want, so you can make the shelves as long as you need and fit them into almost any space.

Amazing product! I bought 3 of this type and 2 of the other type (without the footings). I used the extra pieces from the 3rd piece to make an extra shelf because I wanted it to be taller. As everyone else has mentioned, leave these loose so you can make easy adjustments as you build. I started from the bottom and worked my way up, but I think it would have been easier to start from the top so you don’t have all the weight pulling it back/out of position while you’re trying to get it level. You can then adjust the footings at the end. I will admit that at first I was making it wayyyy more difficult than it needed to be. Yes, books are heavy, but these shelves don’t need to be able to hold an elephant. If you can put them on studs, great. Line the holes on the flange up so you can get the top and bottom holes on the stud and use the bolts provided. That’s enough. Use a nail to verify the stud is there before drilling. Also check that the pipe is completely straight vertically with a level. You will be able to tell if it isn’t! If you can’t put it on a stud, use toggle bolts. If you get the 1/4” size, you will need to open up the holes on the flange a little. Easy to do with a drill. I spent maybe 5 hours of time and less than $300 total on this bookshelf and I LOVE the way it turned out. There’s nothing equivalent that I could have bought or had built for that price. I’ve already gotten so many compliments on how cool it looks. Please note that I ran out of paint, which is why the top shelf is missing. I do plan on adding it later :)

I wanted something rustic to display my husband’s things in the room where his big tv is and this was the perfect option. everything was stored away for the first few years in our house until we decided on the right system. It was super easy to install, but I do feel like I had the advantage on this due to it being installed on solid wood walls, there was no need to locate studs, just mark where my wiring was so I didnt mess with our electrical. I’m sure I would’ve royally screwed it up if having to deal with drywall. The instructions weren’t exactly detailed but I definitely found it easiest to assemble them all loosely, then tighten it all as you install where you want them. As you pick them up to move them, it all shifts and twists anyway, so you might as well not try to get them perfect at the beginning. That way you have the flexibilty to get everything Adjusted when it goes up. All the hardware was included, which also made it easy. I will definitely be purchasing another system or 2 to use elsewhere in our farmhouse, this really suits the whole vibe of the house. And the husband was really pleased with the end result.

Here are some quick bullet points for anyone looking to purchase this kit: •The piping is multiple pipes pieced together to equal the 68 inches. •The base pipes are 18" pipe with the horizontal shelving and remaining vertical pipes as 12 inches each. •All the pipe are a standard 3/4" pipe threads and can easily be added to with pipe fittings from any of the big box stores. •The connectors are slightly shorter and smaller than the certified gas pipe pieces bought at the big box stores. So some planning should be done if integrating some extra elbow or T connectors when building on to the shelf unit as the T connectors are longer than the ones with this kit. •Have a pipe wrench or large enough pliers to assemble the shelf together as some pieces are hand tight while others you may need to tighten harder with tools. •The unit comes with mounting screws and plastic anchors for sheet-rock installations. •The pipes have a "dust" on them that needs to be rubbed down and off the pipe if you wish to paint. (Once assembled I put on a light clear coat to prevent oxidation of the metal.) •I found it much cheaper to order an extra set of shelves to add the the height that to buy the pieces from box store. •Assemble the shelving first and then mount on the wall or ceiling. •Can be hung from ceiling or place on floor. I did not screw the legs into the floor and only mounted on the walls and have had zero issues holding 50 lbs. on a shelf. •Printed instructions come with the kit
