  • Pleasantly Surprised
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
The media could not be loaded. I bought this for about $50 to give to my brother for Christmas, and I have been pleasantly surprised. I have owned a cheap remote-controlled LED strip that cost like $15 which I put on the back of my bedroom TV, and haven't been too happy with it. The remote didn't work very well (have to go walk to point the remote behind the TV for it to register) and it was very short (5' maybe?). On top of that, it would reset the color/mode every time it turned off since it was plugged into the TV. So, it basically stays unplugged until I think about it really want to turn it on. I wanted to get one for my brother's gaming PC (or he could use behind TV like me), so I decided to step it up a bit and get a smart wifi-connected one. The difference is night and day. Here are some of the notes/highlights: * Compared to other smart LED strips in the price range (especially Apple Homekit ones), this one is the longest and best bang-for-you-buck * This is 30+ feet, but is actually two separate LED strips (each 16' I think) that are connected to one controller with one power cord. * My brother has an Android phone, and setting it up was fast * The controls in the app are easy. You can tap the icon just like a smart-plug/light to turn it on/off, and it will remember what color/brightness you last set it to. Click the pencil to get the more detailed view. From here, the power button in the center turns it on/off. You can change the color by rotating the color wheel around the power button, and change the brightness by rotating the outer wheel. * The individual LED's are not individually addressable (understandable at this price for the length). Same goes for each strip. The app has one control and configures both to the same color/brightness (see my suggestion/improvement section below) * You can set timed routines within the app, or connect it to Alexa/Google/Apple for voice control, automation, etc. Worked with my brother to setup a routine that turned the color to a purple at night and a light blue during the day * I got this so he could use in the PC or behind TV/monitor, but with his desk setup everything is close by, and since it comes with two strips he can use it for both All-in-all I think it's much better than the remote-controlled strip, and even though it's $50, it's better-priced than others out there for the features/length. I am quite happy with it. I do have a few notes/recommendations for future support that would make it even better: * Although it has two LED strips there is only one control option in the app. This means that they are both controlled together and cannot be set to different colors or brightness individually. It's possible this could be as simple as an update to the app to allow each LED strip to be controlled independently. If it's a change needed at the microcontroller level, it's wifi-connected and could be future firmware update that could fix this. Either way, I think this would be a prime target for adding a feature that would take little effort and increase the value of what people are getting. In my brother's example, this would allow him to have a different color set for his PC and the TV bias lighting. * There are currently no modes to select like pulse/strobe/etc. Not a killer for me, but what I find funny is that the LED strips auto-rotate colors during setup, meaning it already has at least that functionality programmed in, just only for the setup process. This could be another low-effort addon to the app settings since it's already there. ... show more

  • Works flawlessly but would like a bit more.
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
To be upfront, I bought one of these strips and then was offered a second for free. While I was asked to write a review, it was not a requirement nor was I required to rate favorably. Everything below is my honest opinion based on experience. That said, these lights have been perfect so far as far as functionality goes. They paired to Homekit on the first try and without having to disable the 5GHz single on my Eero WiFi mesh system. The response is INSTANT to turn on, change brightness, and change color. Integration with Homekit scenes is simple as well and haven't failed me yet. This makes a fun addition to the Meross light switches that I already have in my house. I did dock a star for what I'd consider 2 simple things. 1 is there's no standalone remote. That means others in the house can't turn the strip on/off, change color, etc. That may not be a big problem for most but if you're putting this in a common area and want spouses, boyfriend/girlfriend, other friends, or kids to be able to perform basic functions, then this isn't going to be the strip for you in terms of using Homekit unless everyone in the house has HomeKit access. I just have an iPhone while the other person in my house has Android, no HomePods or shared iPad, so this cuts her out completely from being able to use the strip. Their non-Homekit version comes with a great remote -- not sure why they couldn't include that in the Homekit version as well. The other reason for docking a star is that they don't offer the ability to buy a power adapter separately or a shorter amount of length. This comes with 32 feet which is a LOT and honestly most of it will probably be wasted. It would be an instant 5-star if I could buy a Homekit enabled power adapter to use with the bits I cut off. In my first use case, to go under my cabinets is about 10 feet, and under my bar area is another 6. The problem is, since these areas don't share a central point, I need 1 entire package for each area. I'm throwing away 26 feet from the first roll, and 22 foot from the second roll. HUGE WASTE! I'd love to be able to buy another power adapter or 2 and be able to use the rest of these in Homekit! I also wish the color selection was a bit more useful. It's just a generic color wheel and a dimmer. Want a different shade of a color? Too bad, not happening. At least a full color palette would be nice and ability to input your own RGB value would be superb. Even cheap-o "smart" LED strips have this feature. Even while writing this I almost want to knock it down to 3-stars but I know for my use case these are mostly just going to be an on/off thing triggered by scenes in Homekit, and for that the response and reliability keep it a 4-star. ... show more

  • Things I wish I knew before buying
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
I'm finishing up a bookcase/record player cabinet project and I wanted to add LED strips to the shelves. It's an odd layout with tiered shelves and some gaps, so I would have needed to cut the strips to have them turn corners. Because of this, I bought some separate extension cables and right angle connectors to connect these light strips to each other. The main product picture shows that the strips have 6 pins, so I ended up buying various 6-pin accessories to make this work *THIS IS INACCURATE* The lights are 4-pin. This may not be a big deal to many people who don't have a complex path to route these lights, but if you are planning on doing any cutting for angles or adding extensions, keep this in mind that the picture they use showing 6 pins is wrong - it has 4 pins. Beyond this, the strips are covered with a protective coating. This isn't bad in and of itself, but if you are planning to cut and connect these around corners or gaps, be warned that you'll need to cut chunks out of the coating before you can add your connectors. I actually like the idea of a little protection, but it adds a layer of difficulty if you have a custom project in mind. Also another complaint is the app. The lights connected to my Apple Home app and that offers some controls, but I wanted to see what the Meross app was like. I scanned the QR code to recognize the lights, but it won't let you actually "connect" them unless you register for an account. Weird. Again, may not be a big deal to some, but if you were planning on controlling these lights with the official Meross app - you will be forced to register for an account. That might not be a big deal to some people, but I don't see the reason behind forcing your customers to sign up for anything. (These also don't come with a remote. I don't think they advertise a remote so I'll take the blame here, but I bought these hoping to have the ability to use HomeKit (or their own app) as an *option* and be able to fall back on a remote if needed. *Disclaimer* I have not used these lights beyond plugging in one of the two strips to see if it worked and then seeing the HomeKit control and Meross app requirements so I can't comment anything post install as I have not and will not be installing these. I don't want to sound to negative though. If you'll be using these to run in a straight line and don't mind giving them your email address in order to change the light colors, I'm sure these are great - they're just not the best option for the specific type of project I am doing. Kind of a long review for light strips, but hopefully it helps give someone a clearer picture of what these are and what they aren't. TLDR; - Lights have 4-pin connections - not 6 pins like the image shows - Strip comes with protective coating (would need to be peeled back if planning on cutting the strips) - No remote. App (and registration) is required to use lights - No dedicated white LED Pictures show the 4-pin connection and the two screens you see when you try to connect the lights through their app. The first app picture is what you see after you scan the QR code. Then when you click the Add button, you get the second picture which is where you have no choice but to register an account with them. ... show more

  • Great for under counter kitchen cabinets and Alexa programmable
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
Used these kits to do a full kitchen under the cabinet lighting. Combined them with some extension wires and connectors from an iCreate kit to go around our microwave and go around our fridge. They are a little touchy to set up with Apple home by scanning the QR code to initiate the install since the QR code is on the control module that you’ll typically conceal. Works with Apple Home and Alexa programmable scheduling. Needs to work with a 2.4ghz network. If you have a dual band 5ghz router it will work as long as it sees the 2.4ghz part. I have them programmed to come on at sunset and off at sunrise which is a preset in the Alexa routines. My wife loves them! It was a hit for Mother’s Day. ... show more

  • Great Product, Great Support
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
First let me say in general, I have tried and used a variety of "smart" items from different companies. I have found many to be lacking. But my experience with Meross continues to be outstanding. They provide a quality product THAT WORKS! And their items are reasonably priced. And I have found their SUPPORT services to be outstanding as well. They are prompt and effective. Re: The Strip Lights. This is the first Meross product I have used which installed using the Apple Home Kit app. Previous items I've used installed directly with the Meross app and they worked very well. The Home Kit approach requires Apple users to install the Home Kit app - free from the App Store. Using that app I was able to quickly and easily install the strip light using the scan approach of the QR Code. After that it was simple to also associate the Strip Lighting with the standard Meross App and also with my Alexa / Echo system. So everything installed easily and was quickly integrated with my established home system. The light strips arrive on 2 reels along with a connector and controller unit. Each reel of light strip is approx 16 feet long. They can each be individually connected to the controller, placing the controller at the center of 2 radiating strips. Or, the 2 strips can be spliced together using splicing clips (provided) allowing the controller to be at one end of a full length / 32 foot (approx) strip. There is only one controller so the 2 strips cannot be used separately. Apps allow you to the color of light and the intensity of light produced. Using the Meross app you can select one of several pre established settings such as "night", "reading", or there is a "party"mode which varies the color and intensity in a flowing style. You can also create your own effect. The strips come with adhesive clips and the strip also has adhesive backing running it's length so you have those options to stick the strip up on a flat surface. I have not tried those but it seems that it should work well. ( thus I have not rated "adhesion" in my review rating.) At the moment I'm not totally sure where I will install the strips so I have currently simply run the strip through some decorative items along the top of cabinets in my kitchen - not using the adhesive. This has worked well at least for now. The lights add an interesting color and lighting effect at the ceiling. The lighting strips give you a chance to add interesting lighting effects all around the house, dorm room, wherever. Use is limited only by your own creativity. Price is reasonable, the company is great. I've always been very pleased with my products from Meross. ... show more

  • Good with a Big Flaw!
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
I have both the old 32ft version and the new 16ft one, and they both have a major flaw! If you live in an area that power outages are common, these need a hard reset after power is back! It means you have to disconnect them from the wall, wait a few seconds, and plug them back in. Probably because they only try to connect to your Wi-Fi router a few times and then they give up/time out. Of course after power is back on the router takes 20-30 seconds to reboot, and these lights will never join the network! Major flaw and hopefully they will fix it in a firmware update, so they try to connect to the network every few minutes when if it fails. The new version doesn’t have the protective plastic on top of the lights, and I was worried touching the bare circuit with my hands, but the produced colors are prettier. It’s also more flexible because it doesn’t have the rigid coating, and seems to have better adhesive tape than this model. The adaptor also has one output for one strip while this 32ft old version has two outputs where you can attach two separate strips. They both connect to HomeKit the same way, and Siri works great if they succeed in connecting to the WiFi. Overall, these are useful good devices, but please solve the bugs. Thanks for reading, and YMMV. Update January 2022: I see that these lights get to the network after a power loss. So that’s not an issue anymore, but they still turn ON even if they were off before the power loss when power resumes. Also if you get an error message like “failed with osstatus code 5 (EIO)“ during HomeKit setup, try separating your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi to use a different name than the 5GHz, and change the channel manually to 1, 6, or 11. Only one of them worked for me: 11. But one of these channels should resolve that error. Hope this helps some time and frustration for some people. ... show more

  • Looking for cheap Homekit support? Get this. Looking for GOOD Homekit support? Look elsewhere.
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
This review focuses on what I wish I had known before buying. Overall, it works and has nice color, plus the adhesive back seems to hold up well. On to the negatives: I'm not sure if this is on Apple or Meross, but the homekit integration is not good. You can't truly tune the colors at all via the Home app, and if you set this LED strip via automation, the color flashes during transition. I wanted it to slowly get dim over the course of 10 minutes from orange to off completely. Well each step down in brightness alters the color a bit. It goes orange then yellow then solid red. There's no good "in-between" colors. So instead of a slow dim, it goes: orange, red, yellow, orange again, yellow... while slowly dimming abruptly. Not good if you want this in your bedroom for your wind down scene. If you turn it off entirely, it flashes a quick blue color with about 50% brightness. So again, if this is used for a mood light and you want to turn it off, you expect to have it on a warm color and then turn it off completely. Instead, you'll get a quick small flash of blue light. The above issues are *mostly* solved if you use the Meross app, but I bought these specifically for the Homekit integration, and I'm sorely disappointed there. I hope an update comes along to fix those issues because other Homekit LED light strips do not have those issues. It's also pretty expensive, considering what it comes with. You'll get two 16' LED strips and 2 connectors. So you can link them together if you want. But for the price, I'd expect more connectors, some extenders, some angled connectors, etc. I had to buy a $5 LED accessory kit to get the full use from this that I'd have liked, and because it was third-party, I had a lot of cutting and soldering to make it work how I needed it. There is also no "white" light or temperature light. It's colored only. You can make a very warm yellow (I'd say it's around 2200k) but that's about it. Lastly, I would love to have the option to buy a new controller. If you break or lose the controller, or if you want to get more functionality out of your two included LED strips, you have to buy a whole extra kid. You can't just buy a new controller. So you'll be paying full price again and receive yet another two 16' LED strips. Feels very wasteful if you don't need more than the LED strips that the base kit comes with. ... show more

Once that happened, I added it back into HomeKit and all is well! ____ previous review: ... after that, it's all down hill and the company is unresponsive. I bought two light kits, which is to say, $100 down the toilet. The backside sticks nicely and at first when you add it to HomeKit, all works well. That is the only plus. • GREAT value; 3M adhesion issues
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
The incumbent competitor sells a similar product at a greater price @ only 6 feet. I own two of that competitor's product. This is over 32 feet of product. Unbelievable value vs. the incumbent. The lighting - especially when used as an indirect lighting source (behind a TV, under a bed, behind or under any furniture, etc.) is fantastic. It has sufficient color options to provide you with many moods - and it's bright enough to provide mood lighting - perhaps even good indirect lighting - though that's not the application I have it in. The integration with Homekit was a snap - although I don't like that I only seemed to be able to load the lighting in the Homekit app. I wasn't able to get it loaded into the Meross app - even though the Meross app implied it should be available in both. I've seen product like this have more functionality in the OEM app vs. the Homekit app - but honestly, the Homekit functionality provides more than I expected. The biggest drawback is the adhesive backing (it says 3M, but I've not seen 3M adhesive this lacking before. I needed to use the enclosed clips to hold it upside down under my furniture - and there were not enough clips for 32 feet - I had to use some of my own. Between the inability to get the lighting loaded in the OEM app and the adhesion issues, down to four stars from 5. All in all, I'm very pleased with the value of this product - and I will buy again for other needs. ... show more

  • Best quality, easiest led strip lights to work with, awesome customer support!
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
Wow, I do not typically have the time to write any reviews. Just too busy. But I had no choice and felt obligated to write one for this product. So, to start off, I must admit that I am a bit of a light fanatic. My wife thinks I’m nuts because I have pretty much setup my life with as much automation as possible. I have started this journey with Apple HomeKit as a platform simply because all of our family members have iPhones. Not too mention that I believed the platform to be a little more secure for home automation. I am now in the process of upgrading our travel trailer (RV) a 30 foot Surveyor! The choices are not enormous when it comes to HomeKit products but I have found a new product line that is catering to HomeKit! The Meross brand! I purchased 64 feet of led strip lights to add a nice ambiance to our family RV. The quality of these led strips are amazing, far better than other led strip sets I’ve bought in the past. My set up is very detailed with many many cuts going from each area of my RV and hiding all traces of joints between the cut strips. It was the easiest kit I’ve worked with thus far. They were easy to join. The leds are well protected and also stick very well. Again I can’t say enough for this product! They were also the easiest to pair with my HomeKit Hub. I am also extremely pleased with the customer support at Meross. I had some technical questions and they have been extremely helpful and prompt in returning answers to my questions. If you are looking for the best quality led strip lights, look no further. These are amazing quality. You won’t find better! ... show more

  • Easy setup and seems like excellent quality
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
I've had several different strip lights, but this is my first "smart" strip. And setting it up was a breeze. I suggest testing and setting things up before you deploy these lights, just so you can "work out the bugs" before you've stuck them above your molding or whatever. Unspool the lights from the reels, plug everything in, and dowload and launch the Meross application on your device. I already had it, as I have their smart garage door module, so I went right to setting up the device. Basically, you hold down the power button until the lights turn on in blinking mode. You connect to the built-in wifi on the control module to configure, then switch it over to your home wifi. After that, it's ready to go. You can then have your smart device like Alexa or Google Home discover it, and you're off and running SMART. Apple Homekit can connect up too, but it takes a little more work. The quality of the strip seems very good. They are all coated in a rubber dome, unlike some strips I have that are not protected. And the kit comes with a couple of splicing clips, if you need/want to cut things to a different length. It also comes with clips for mounting, and an easy to read manual, and a mini-manual for Apple homekit users. Lights can be dimmed and color can be changed. I've yet to figure out if you can fade in between colors or anything like that. One thing to know is that this package is two 16' strips and the power connects in the middle. This may not be ideal for situations where you have a power plug at one end of a long run. I would say I'm very happy with these at this point. ... show more

  • Plenty of options and works with Google Home
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
The lights are easy to install. If you are connecting the 2 strips to each other, pay close attention to how they connect together. You'll need a connector piece (2 are included) and you have to cut off the end of one strip to use the connector piece. Make sure to line up the RGB on the 2 strips (don't reverse them). The tape could be a little stickier. Our walls are textured and I really had to press hard to get it to adhere well enough to not come loose. At one point before the strip was entirely up, the weight of the remains strip (which is very light) pulled it down. Now that it's all up and pressed firmly to the wall, it's all good. I made use of plenty of the included tape for the plug-in so it could support the weight and it wouldn't pull the light strip down. The color and brightness are controlled through the Meross app (also can be done in Google Home). There are unlimited colors and brightness from 1-100% so pretty much anything you could want. Integration with Google Home is great. It's easy to setup and you can turn them on/off, change the color, and change the brightness. Overall, a great LED light strip with plenty of options and great integration with Google Home. ... show more

  • Very good HomeKit lights, with outstanding customer service
Style: Modern Size: 32.8 Feet
I bought these lights to do some under cabinet lighting projects in the house. As mentioned in the product description, this is packaged as two individual strips and the controller has two connectors so if you want all your lights the same color, you’re all set. The strips have a 2-3 mm silicone layer above the lights, so if you need to use custom connectors you need to peel this layer back. I emailed Meross customer service and was pleasantly surprised when they emailed back a day or so later asking me to provide them with some data off the controller. Another email later, I hade the correct 8 digit code (which can be used in place of scanning the QR code) and was able to connect. Impressive customer service - something we don’t see a lot of these days. ... show more
