First off I have to say, I freaking love this handle!! I completely like that you can use it on either side of the camera plus on top of that it is adjustable up and down. It has a very solid cold shoe mount on top of it that easily holds light panels, mics or even monitors without flexing or making you feel it will come loose. Another goodie it has is a built in compartment on the top to hold the Allen wrench securely with two magnets. This Allen wrench is used to adjust the handle height and it can be used to tighten the thumb screws if you want. An added bonus to the Allen wrench is that it will work on other SmallRig items so you can use it across the board. I am definitely going to buy one more if not two more for my other cameras. ... show more

    • Great side handle...for some cameras.

If you have a camera where the back screen doesn't flip out to the side (like a Sony Alpha camera, for instance), this would be a great side handle for you. The NATO quick release makes it very easy to connect and disconnect it from your camera cage, it's quite comfortable to hold, and the mounting points on the top just add to its versatility. You can even reverse the mount and use it as a right-side handle. My camera, however, is a Panasonic GH5, and when I swiveled the screen out to the side, the handle kept it from fully extending (unless I positioned the screen vertically). And if I was actively gripping the handle, there was even less room for the screen. When I shoot handheld, I almost always have the screen out to the side and tilted upward so I can view it from above a bit, and that just wouldn't have been possible with this handle, so I had to return it for a handle that sits further forward (I went with SmallRig's Left Side Wooden Handle with Rosette Mount 1891, which is very comfortable and can be mounted out in front of the screen, so I'm happy with it; the only drawback is the loss of the mounting points on top, but I can make do without them). That said, I still give it 5 stars for being a quality product. I won't knock it down a star just because it doesn't fit my camera. If there were no other options out there that would work, then it'd be another matter. But there are, and I learned something in the process of trying this one, so I still say it's a great handle. ... show more

Got this to go with my Sony a6600 camera and Smallrig cage. I love the feel of this handle. It is sturdy and after you use the built-in hex wrench to tighten the two silver knobs it is rock solid. But I found that when mounted the way the illustrations show, the two knobs get in the way of your thumb and make it difficult to hold the wooden handle securely. I ended up reversing the bracket, so that the knobs are in front of the handle. That worked. With the bracket mounted high on the handle, my thumb lays on the top of the bracket and just touches the knobs. And my middle finger goes just under the bracket. So, if you find you can't get your thumb between the handle and the knobs, try reversing the bracket. ... show more

As my rig continues to grow, this is a huge help in steadying things for parallax shots especially. I'm using a GH5, metabones, sigma 18-35 art, rode NT4 and 2 wireless receivers into the panasonic XLR, and lighting when necessary. All of this sits on a monopod usually allowing me to move around quickly. It's works great but with this handle it's much more comfortable and steady. the shoe mount is so simple but so necessary in spreading things out, it helps tremendously. Well made sturdy, just $80 is a bit much, but when you make your living with gear, it's a drop in the bucket. Highly recommend. For those who had a hard time saying they can't open the door on their GH5, you need to turn the arc of the arm in the other direction and it gives you all the roomy you'll need. ... show more

    • Wish the "Updated" Canon M50 cage had the 1/4x20 holes for his handle.

My handle arrived and I immediately had to arrange for a return. As for the quality it seemed like a fantastic purchase and I really wish I could have used it. The problem came in the regard that SMALLRIG decided to update the design to their cage for the Canon M50. And with the design change they went from the two 1/4x20 threads to a nato rail, which mean this handle will not fit the new cage. Honestly, I would rather have had this handle instead of the rail but the cage was nonreturnable and this was. ... show more

These handles are excellent for our smallrig. They’re comfortable to hold and the vertical adjustment option is a great feature. I only wished the handles came in black or gray so that they’re less conspicuous. The key to filming on the go is having great gear as capable as you are and being able to move swiftly without drawing a great deal of attention. The handles are a bit too obvious in this color. They are are also prohibitively expensive to by another setup for another camera. It’s a well built handle but at this price it’s too expensive for one handle. ... show more

I'm slowly getting into video and this handle is ingenius. In the beginning I wasn't too fond of the wood make but once you hold it in your hands it feels and looks great. It is solidly made and makes your set-up look bad a**. I used it once since buying and I got two compliments on it. People say gear doesn't matter, that is completely FALSE. When you have great quality gear like what's made from SmallRig you will notice the difference. Although SmallRig items are on the expensive side it is so much worth it. I love the feel of this grip. I have it on the left side of my GH5 rig (I use a strap on the right side). Like many others I reverse the connecting arm to move the handle back, which improves the balance. However, this also blocks the HDMI port on the left side of the GH5, which I need for an external monitor. Adding the SmallRig 1598 plate to the left side of the main GH5 cage lets me shift the handle just one space forward (which is less than if I turned the connecting arm around again) and gives me access again to the HDMI. And I can still access the focus/zoom on lenses with the plate there. ... show more
