  • Spectacular Light. Inadequate Kit
The media could not be loaded. Spectacular Light. Inadequate Kit The kit comes with one of the better-made tube lights, a small bag, a USB-C to USB-C power cable, and an Instruction manual. The light is hefty and solidly built. More metal than plastic. There are several mounting points, upper and lower 1/4" and 3/8" mounting points on the back. It can handle mounting to a Nato rail as well. A 1/4" mounting hole at the base can be mounted on a light stand. There are mount points for a not-included barn door set. It has a power on/off slider. A nicely lit OLED display that you can toggle through settings using the Mode and Settings buttons as well as a dial to adjust settings. It has an extremely wide color temperature range from 2500 to 10,000. Important is that it also has tint controls. There's great detail in the HSL and RGB settings including gel equivalent settings allowing you great control in fine-turning the color output. Issues I did have was the flap covering the USB-C charging port fell off easily. Toggling through the settings wasn't intuitive for me although it shouldn't take too long to figure it out. The user manual is entirely inadequate in my opinion. First, the language layouts aren't grouped individually such that scanning the manual for each description was cumbersome. There's virtually no description of any features. It can store up to 5 lighting presents but it doesn't clearly describe how. The kit is inadequate. The power handle is not included and there is no internal battery. It's easy enough to use a power bank, v-mount, or any number of other batteries that now have USB-C power-out options though. There's no easy way to mount them to the battery though. The barn doors are also optional although many people don't need them. As is the kit will allow you to mount to a light stand and figure out a way to mount your power source. Given powering and mounting flexibility is paramount for tube lights the light is only minimally useful unless you buy some number of options. This needs a more complete user manual as well that is better organized. The light truly is great but you'd be better off buying a kit with the power handle. Of course, other power mounting options may be a la carte as well as barn doors but as is you either need the power handle or mounting gear for your particular power options. I can't see buying the light without the power handle which, by the way, will also give you the option to handhold the light. Great light. Get a more complete kit though. ... show more

  • Small lights are underrated.
The SmallRig RT25 Tube Light stands out as an exceptional tool for creators seeking an effective yet compact lighting solution. Priced at a reasonable $179, this light offers a robust set of features that cater to both amateur and professional videographers and photographers. It delivers up to 25 watts of output, providing about 2,300 lux at half a meter when set to 5600 Kelvin. Additionally, with a high CRI rating of 96+, the RT25 ensures accurate color rendering, which is crucial for high-quality video and photo production. One of the RT25's standout features is its RGBWW capability, which allows for a vast range of color temperatures, spanning from a warm 2500 Kelvin to a cool 10,000 Kelvin. This flexibility is complemented by its suite of special effects modes, including unique RGB options such as cop car and color cycle, adding creative versatility to any shoot. In terms of practicality, the light is designed with usability in mind. The OLED screen provides clear information on current settings and battery life, while the intuitive dial control enhances user experience. Mounting options are diverse, with multiple 1/4"-20 threads along the body and a NATO rail on the back, making it compatible with various setups. The IP54 water-resistant rating further expands its usability, ensuring reliability even in adverse weather conditions. Power options are another strength of the RT25. It can be operated using the battery handle (sold separately or as part of a kit), providing nearly two hours of full-power use. Alternatively, it supports USBC power delivery, allowing users to connect it to a power bank, wall adapter, or even V-mount or NP-F batteries, accommodating different shooting scenarios. ... show more

  • Super Fun Tube Light!
I love playing with lights in photography. I’ve been having a lot of fun with this light stick. It’s great for lighting subjects and for light painting. Overall, it’s a great light and I would recommend it. Here are my pros and cons. PROS: - Very good build. The materials used in constructing the light are good quality. The light has ¼” threaded wells on the end and several on the side. It also has 3/8” threaded wells (2) on the side. The body of the light is metal. The light part feels like a heavy grade of plastic or acrylic. - The light doesn’t get too hot. Even after several minutes of use, it is still touchable. - The menu is easy to understand and intuitive. - USB-C cord is extra long. Great if you are mounting the light on a stand and feeding the cord to external power or an outlet. - Great range on CCT. (From warm to cool plus fine tuning on green/magenta). You can also adjust the intensity. - Hue menu gives you settings for all colors, intensity and saturation. - FX menu gives you various special effects such as color flash, paparazzi, lighting, SOS, etc. FX has adjustable intensity, hue/CCT/color, speed, mode, etc. The menu will change depending on the FX selected. - Gel mode gives color corrective menus. - You can add presets in the menu to store your favorite settings. - Waterproof CONS: - Although the light comes with a bag, it is not terribly thick or padded and is more of a dust jacket than for protection. I would prefer something with a little padding so when I put it in my light bag, I can be assured that it won’t be damaged. - No battery. It is my understanding that the battery is an accessory and can be added. ... show more
