I am writing this review right after installing one of these ball adjusters because I realized it works contrary to some of the other reviewers. There is a catch however, and that is after you tighten the base down the notch on the side points to whatever way it wants to point once tightened. What this means is you can't get a 90 degree pivot out of this unless it happens to point in the direction you need. You can still pivot it but only about 20 degrees or so. That was enough though for my apication. The fix may be to grind another slot with the Dremel if you are into that sort of thing. If not, you can put a 1/4 inch washer on the threads sticking out at the bottom so when you tighten the base the notch will point in a slightly different direction. You could try 2 washers but you can't put too many or the remaining threads might not be enough to adequately hold your device in position. If that's not enough then buy two of these pivots and use them in tandem. That will give you about 40 degrees without using the notch. I actually did get two just in case but only needed one to hold my 10 inch tablet. Oh and I didn't have a problem tightening it. The metal seems strong enough for the intended purpose also. So to sum up, it's versatile but partly depends on your application. If you are not sure get two of them that should cover a plethora of applications. Good luck to all of you. UPDATE I found that if you use two in tandum you can get any angle you want.

PROS: * Quality metal Mounts that are priced very reasonably, so far I've purchased this set three times. All six of my mounts are usable, with only one being a little stiff. * There are so many ways to use these, one being to add flexibility to thrifty monopods that do not have adjustable mounts making them more usable. * I've used these for overhead shots holding small cameras rock solid in place. * Come with an allen key, shoe mount, and 1" x 1/4" threaded rod for each mount. * Even the shipping box comes in handy in that it is well labeled and fits nicely in a drawer for storage * So far I've used these for holding lights, cameras, and even scripts. If you can think of more uses I'd like to know. CONS: None noted. Yes I'd buy these again and recommend to a friend. Like everything I've bought from smallrig these are well machined and solid. I have mostly used them for mounting VIVE trackers or small lights to my hot-shoe. The only thing I can say is that in some cases they are a little TOO well machined. The threads come together so smoothly in some cases it is hard to get them to stay tightened and whatever you have attached to them will just turn on the thread. Not sure of the best solution for this but applying a bit of threadlocker (the TEMPORARY kind) would probably solve the problem

The shoe mounts that came with my monitors are poorly made. I got these as replacements and they didn’t disappoint. I use them on my Sony mirror less cameras to hold 7” monitors. Very sturdy. Glad I got them.

I bought these for trail camera mounting outdoors. The other mounting brackets that I bought on Amazon do not have a tilt down feature which my application needs.....so I bought these secondary swivels so as to add the tilt down feature. I've used these for 2-3months outdoors, so far. My only complaint at this time is that the ball swivel does not tighten securely. Hence a bump on the trail camera will cause the pointing position of the camera to change. Also the mounting screw of these swivels....the 1/4" threaded post on to which the trail camera base attaches to this swivel...I find it difficult to get this round serrated finger nut tight enough to keep the trail camera position from rotating when I am changing batteries, exchanging memory cards, or modifying settings in the trail cams. I assume the plastic used is too slippery.
