The mat looks pretty good, and works as described, but the smell is still strong after 2 months of owning it. I started wondering what actually causes the smell, because typically, if something smells, it's releasing some particles to cause it. Since I bathe my toddler in the tub every night, I decided to do some research to make sure it's nothing that could harm him. Turns out, it IS toxic.. [...] New shower curtains typically have the smell for a day or two, and then it's gone.. Since this has been strong for two months now, I have to believe that the rate at which it's putting off the chemicals, and the amount is far greater. The chemicals that are put off by vinyl are known to cause cancer in humans and animals, as well as damage to the liver, central nervous system, and respiratory system, and young children are especially vulnerable. I'm disgusted that these are even allowed to be sold without any disclaimer, and angry at myself for exposing my family to potentially life-long damage to their health for a stupid, pebble, bathmat. I wanted to post this immediately after doing some research, but I'm going to throw it away right now and hope that I haven't inadvertently caused permanent damage to my son's health.     • Slippery and uncomfortable

I’m not a big review writer, and I’m not one to give one star just because. But this mat is awful! I bought it because I have a new tub and almost slipped and fell. I work long hours and need to soak in the tub a few times a week to help my sore feet and legs.... so thinking this mat would help me NOT slip and be somewhat comfortable to step/lay on... wrong. On all levels. At first I was like “it’s not that bad” but this thing is SLICK.... even with no soap I almost slipped. And this was it securely attached. Then as I’m standing there trying not to fall it’s like you’re stepping on literal rocks and they are digging into your feet. Idk what it’s trying to accomplish, but it neither made my tub safer or more comfortable. If I didn’t already use it I would send it back. $15 down the drain. :-( ... show more

I took exactly one (1) shower with this product and never again. It was the most painful shower I've taken in my life. I cannot imagine a world where this feels good. The "pebbles" are far too spaced out to feel good, everywhere you step there is a hard knot jabbing into your foot. This is what I imagine a bath mat of legos feels like. Aside from the pain, the suction cups on the bottom are also terrible and barely stick. The only good thing is I imagine it is easy to clean. ... show more

With reviews of people enjoying this mat, saying it felt good on the feet after a long day, I had high hopes. Tried standing on it when it arrived and, yes, it feels like rocks. I don't know about others, but being a heavier person with sensitive feet, this experience was not a good one. The mat itself looks nice, and had many suction cups on the bottom.     • It is very large and heavy so it stays put better than all other brands I tried.

The number one best point is safety because the sliding around is very minimal. If you are stepping off of it and push it sideways with your foot the edge will bunch up a bit, but the mat itself pretty much stays put if you have pressed it down securely so the suction cups are working. All the other tub mats I had were scary because of the sliding. None of them were any good. I bought one that looked like this in the picture but when I got it, it was small, flat, lightweight, and slid like a banana peel. This is the good, heavy one, just like the one I bought in Walmart before they foolishly discontinued it. I thought I would never find this one again, but Amazon as usual had the best selection. I was fooled once by the picture of the look-a-like mat, but then I found this one. Aaah! Success!! However, you should know that this mat is very bumpy and it is uncomfortable at first to walk on it, but that is actually good for you. It stimulates the bottom of your foot to thicken the fat pad that is supposed to protect your feet. It is healthy that way, it toughens your feet like walking barefoot, but without the risks. However, I would recommend hand washing. After quite a few machine washings the thinner part between the "stones" will tear, especially around the edge. When that happened I found this mat difficult to find again. Maybe I will buy a couple extra ones in case it is discontinued. It is the best product of its kind by far. ... show more

I suddenly got paranoid about accidents in the shower (for no reason, mind you) and wanted to buy something for the bottom of the tub. I bought this and then of course a month later decided to redo the bathroom and get rid of the tub anyway, but that's my problem. In the meantime, this mat works really nice. The little suction cups on the bottom hold it firmly and the sensation of having it under your feet does take some getting used to but not because it's unpleasant but because I wasn't used to it. You do realize that you feel a bit more secure and that if any soap or whatever is coating the bottom of the tub, you won't be sliding on it. Hair and soap drain down through the gaps in the "pebbles" and go down the drain. For cleaning, you just pry it up and rinse it off on both sides and let it dry before putting it back. There's no odor but when you pull it up there will be some soap residue underneath. I like the fake stone look and it's way better than having those weird decals stuck to your tub. ... show more

Pretty, comfortable, annoying to clean, still love it. This is my 3rd one, only because I cut two to fill the bottom of a large corner shower and then moved to a rental with full tubs and no showers. They get cruddy. It's easier to deal with in warm weather- take out side, hose, spray with bathroom cleaner and scrub scrub scrub underside then blast away again and allow to dry. In cold weather, good luck, prepare to scrub scrub scrub while inhaling toxic bathroom cleaner compounds for a long time with poor ventilation. They clean up real nice but the underside just catches hair and scum over time. Stays pretty if you keep up with it. ... show more
