Robust is definitely the right word to use to describe this latch. I've never seen a sliding bolt this HUGE. I know what 17 inches is, but when I took it out of the box, it looked like it was even bigger. I secured this to the inside of my gates so that I can always make sure the gates are locked. I have the latching mechanism, but this doesn't always lock. Even the occasional "not-locking" is a real problem when you own a hunting dog that will bite people. And this lock gives me a lot more confidence that he's not going to escape. I've taught all my grandchildren that they must make sure this lock is secure. Easy to install, works smooth, and it's major protection!!! ... show more

Wow, I’m so impressed with the quality of this gate latch. It is a really heavy, well-manufactured, and solid as a rock. I’m installing it on my shed door - I had a regular latch that I got at the bog box store and someone was able to pry the whole thing off to break in. It bent like a potato chip. I’ve reinforced the door with studs and I'm going to install this with bolts instead of screws. Someone will have a serious challenge trying to bend this latch off the door. ... show more

I like the size of the rod, will hold a gate closed against a pretty beefy animal., have the slide move 6" is really use to go through a substantial mount. has a locking clasp. Overall easy to use.
