Just installed the spring, it seems to be very well made. I followed the directions and put tension on the spring and works just fine. Took about five minutes to install. It had an extra peg in case that was needed. Be careful putting tension on the spring, I had a longer metal piece that I used to give more leverage when turning the tension up. You can adjust the tension pretty easily and there are a lot of drilled holes/steps on the adjuster side. Anyway, happy so far. Will update if issues.

The kids constantly leave the gate open. Installed this in under 10 minutes and it closes on its own without slamming. Our gate is solid wood and HEAVY. This spring works great!

Idiot-proof installation. But the next one I install, I’ll use thru & thru bolts (on my aluminum posts/gate) for extra strength.

The springs seem to be reasonably well made and finished. But they are definitely made to a price point. Time will tell how well they hold up. They have enough power to close a free swinging 5’ cedar gate, but not enough to close the same gate when the grass is tall enough to brush against the bottom. The “tool” supplied to set the spring tension is completely inadequate. It’s too short, too small in diameter, and too soft. If you’re strong enough to try to add more than 2 or 3 “notches” of tension it starts to bend. A #1 Phillips screw driver does the job nicely. The instructions say to mount the top of the spring to the left of the bottom. There is no reason that I can see why mounting the spring “upside down” wouldn’t work. That’s what I did on two of our gates since the construction of the gate wouldn’t all mounting the springs as instructed. On double gates this also means you can make the springs symmetrical if that’s your thing.
