My wife has moderate knee trouble so she uses an office chair to 'scoot' around the house. The chair began extending full height and was slightly loose. I saw this and immediately thought "fix". The new part easily replaced the old one.. with a little persuasion from a hammer. You will kneed to knock the piston out of the top and bottom chair supports. The legs being plastic was relatively easy. Support the legs and drive the cylinder out of its socket. Drive the sides and not the middle. The top may be somewhat more difficult being metal. You can hold the cylinder and pound away on the metal support. A good composite dead blow 2 or 3 pound hammer works best. Replacement is easy. You may want to tighten up the fit if needed. You can use an impact socket to drive the sockets making the holes smaller. We are getting way above a quick easy repair so if you need more help... just use common sense and a big hammer. The chair is solid and works great. Replacing the cylinder is about 30 minutes. Relatively easy repair. ... show more

    • Already a big fail.
Just got it won't stay fully extended when sitting goes down an inch. I weight 210 and it says 450 pounds. Amazon fast delivery. Now I know why it's 10 dollars. They should throw the whole lot into the garbage.

    • Perfect replacement for a blown chair cylinder
This replacement cylinder is the standard size used on office chairs and many "gaming" chairs. My old unit would no longer raise up. With this replacement in place, it works properly again! I don't have to spend $300 on another chair! Be forewarned that getting the OLD cylinder out of the chair may be difficult. You'll probably need a hardwood block and a hefty hammer. A large pair of slip-joint pliers to apply some twist will help. Even then you may need to utter a "few choice words" before the old part comes free. ... show more
