I've been woodworking and building for 60+ years. Lots of tools; lots of brands. SKIL was never at the top of my list.... ....it is now. They have seriously elevated their game. Loaded with features not found on much more expensive brands: soft start, RPM control (0-25,000), LED lighted clear base, vacuum port, safety light so you remember to unplug before changing bits., Heavy-duty, solid build, no undue vibration. Very ergonomic; feels balanced, not awkward. Would prefer the two-wrench method of changing bits, never cared for having to hold down a button, but that's just me. These features at this price is hard to believe. Great router. Just ordered another! Having said that, the seller page states 2HP, but the box states 1.75 HP. (10 amps = about 1.61 HP +/-) That's fine, no complaint there. Just sayin'. Plenty powerful enough for any project. ... show more

Something worth noting about this router is how solidly engineered it feels. Right from unboxing, you're holding a heavy, but well-balanced piece of machinery in your hands. The depth adjuster and locks are well-engineered and easy to work without being something you'll hit by accident. The power and speed switches have a good feel to them and the operation indicator light is easy to see even in a bright room. All of the mechanical parts fit perfectly, and the soft start feature helps the tool from kicking out when you start it, particularly at higher speeds. I was able to get a new bit mounted and round-over the edge of a piece of wood very quickly. The handles have a great shape and feel to them, and there's great visibility of the cutting area with the LEDs shining down in there. For an around-the-house hobbyist, this does a great job at a very nice price. A case or bag would have been a nice addition, but its absense probably kept it under $100. I also really wish the power switch was something other than a horizontally-operated toggle switch. I would have preferred something more easily visible, like an up/down switch or a push/pull like on Craftsman tools, although if you're mounting this on a table, that doesn't really matter. ... show more

Purchased this to replace a really old Craftsman router. It fit well on the table and it is much easier to adjust. I can now adjust from the top of the table. I will maybe get the plunge part of this IF I need it but this is GREAT for 1/4 in and 1/2 in bits. I passed by ordering bits I needed since I was stuck with just 1/4 inch but this fixed all that. Update Sep 2024 - Loved to minor adjustment to the depth of the bit. Attached this router to spetool for surfacing river tables. The ability to set the depth down 1/64 or 1/32 at a time really helped versus trying to do that manually. When surfacing a piece you don't want to dig too much at a time and the adjustment knob really made that task easy. Like the router. ... show more

This is a terrific tool. I should have bought it years ago. I haven’t seen anything that it can’t do. You should buy a set of bits to go with this router. Check out the YouTube videos on using routers. There are a lot of adjustments this tool to get the look that you’re after. Test routes help. Be careful not to burn the wood by holding it in one place too long. I struggle with getting straight routes. ... show more

I was eying this same model at a big box store but saw it here for a much better price. I chose it because it has a height adjustment screw that can be used with an allen wrench from above when mounted in a router table. I grabbed a 4mm hex bit a few inches long(also on Amazon) and stuck it in a little ratchet handle I already had. I mounted some high-power magnets to the sides of the table to hold wrenches and such and its a great little setup for a home wordworker. ... show more
