This is very versatile and quality built. I am an advanced beginner so I am still learning but have used it for a plunge project (Chinese checkerboard) and a fixed level project (cutting out a longboard/skateboard) and this thing worked great. I have owned three routers in my time, A more powerful Craftsman, an older model less powerful SKIL, This SKIL is my all time favorite so far, here is why: I have used this one on several small projects and one larger project in my home shop, the performance has been excellent. I have a router table I mount it under, works great. I have used the plunge as well and am very pleased. It has out performed the others, low vibration (still plenty of noise though), easy to change bits it has mounter shaft lock loke most new routers, easy to adjust height, has all the requisite tools for adjustments and bit changes. I have read some complaints about the collet, some say its to small, I have used both quarter inch and half inch bits and both function without even a small problem. If there was a problem it seems resolved. Some complaints about the insert to convert to from half to quarter inch is too flimsy, that is not my observation, it seem just right. Enough honey, now for my only complaint: The provided attachment dust collection system is plastic and feels very flimsy, every time I attach the vacuum hose I'm afraid I'm going to break it. For the money, this is a great buy, if I had to buy another one I would get this exact model. ... show more

I've used them all Triton, Dewalt, Bosch, Makita and yet I buy my 2nd 14 amp Skil router (mdl 1322) Why? because the extra features that come with this router along with the power and stability. I have yet to have a problem with this router. Skil has come along ways to compete with other big name routers such as I listed already. Face it you know as well as I do that you are paying for the "name" on some of these products. In my view I am getting a quality product for a good price with features that don't exist with the some of the other products. Like 14 amp power, LCD speed control, Electronic feedback, Soft start and live tool indicator, LED lights that light up the area where the action is. By the way I'm still using my 1st 14 amp Skil router the 2nd one I have dedicated to my linear table sled and for larger bits. It's very comfortable to use. ... show more

Style: 10 Amp Corded Router
Something worth noting about this router is how solidly engineered it feels. Right from unboxing, you're holding a heavy, but well-balanced piece of machinery in your hands. The depth adjuster and locks are well-engineered and easy to work without being something you'll hit by accident. The power and speed switches have a good feel to them and the operation indicator light is easy to see even in a bright room. All of the mechanical parts fit perfectly, and the soft start feature helps the tool from kicking out when you start it, particularly at higher speeds. I was able to get a new bit mounted and round-over the edge of a piece of wood very quickly. The handles have a great shape and feel to them, and there's great visibility of the cutting area with the LEDs shining down in there. For an around-the-house hobbyist, this does a great job at a very nice price. A case or bag would have been a nice addition, but its absense probably kept it under $100. I also really wish the power switch was something other than a horizontally-operated toggle switch. I would have preferred something more easily visible, like an up/down switch or a push/pull like on Craftsman tools, although if you're mounting this on a table, that doesn't really matter. ... show more
