Full Disclosure: I did not break any windows in my vehicle for this review. Nevertheless, I will provide you with my thoughts and observations. Observations: o This safety hammer is manufactured out of solid metal. It does not contain any plastic. o The handle is not magnetic. It appears to be made out of aluminum. o The head of the hammer is highly magnetic, and it is definitely much heavier than the handle (which is a good thing). o The pointy end of the hammer has a solid tungsten alloy hammer tip, which arrived with a translucent silicone cover to prevent the sharp tip from causing any damage. o The safety hammer arrived in a soft gray pouch. I plan on storing this safety hammer in the glove box of my vehicle, and I do NOT plan on using the gray storage pouch. Why? Well, see my list of Cons, below. o The hammer has a very sharp seat belt cutter. o This safety hammer weighs 314 grams (11.1 oz), and it feels as though it would easily break through any of the side windows of my vehicle. Cons: o In an emergency, the safety hammer could be hard to find if it is stored in the gray pouch. The manufacturer should have used a storage pouch that was either very bright red and white, or bright yellow and black. Gray was not a good color choice in my opinion, but this is just a minor complaint. Simply store it in your glove box (or center console), and do not use the pouch. o The safety hammer did not arrive with any instructions. That is really too bad. However, the Amazon webpage for this product shows where you should (and should not) strike the hammer to break a car window. It also shows that you should never try to break the front or rear windshield. Conclusion: Hopefully, none of us will ever have to use this emergency safety hammer. It is very reassuring to know that this is indeed a solid, first-rate safety hammer. If you live near any source of water (ocean, lake, river), this safety hammer could save your life or the life of a loved one. Keep it in your glove box (or center console), and TRAIN your family on how/when to use it. Also, be sure to remind/train your loved ones to first REMOVE the soft silicone protective cover before striking any of the windows. You will be very glad you did. Rating: This safety hammer is very well made. I gave it 5 Stars. Works very easy on car glass and seatbelts. tested on car glass and it doesn't need much force to shatter the glass. the seatbelt cutter is very sharp and cuts very easily. it is heavy but not bulky. it fits great on the side of the car door or glove compartment.

These are nice heavy window breakers and I have no doubt they will do that job should the need arise. These are however being marketed as not just window breakers but also seatbelt cutters. Full discloser, I don't have any automobile seatbelts I can afford to test these on, but I did try both on a nylon tow strap of similar, if not slightly thinner thickness. Neither were able to cleanly cut through it. I just don't think the razor is quite at the right angle to get the job done. I think that with enough work, you could get through a seatbelt with these, you're not going to be wanting to put in extra work at the time you need them. 5 stars from the window braker/safety hammer perspective. One star for the seat belt cutters. This rating gets the benefit of rounding because Amazon won't let me rate at 3.5 stars. ... show more

Which is a good thing. I was a little surprised at the weight of this tool the first time I picked it up, but it is certainly not unwieldy, and that weight will work to its advantage should it be called upon to break the glass. It appears well made and quality, and I appreciate the bag it came with. Like some other reviewers, I am a little dubious about the seatbelt cutting capability of the tiny razor blade opening, but it should be better than not having anything. I am confident in the glass breaking ability though. I put it in its pouch and have it nestled in the car door cubby, hoping that I will never need to use it. ... show more

As a disclaimer, I have not yet had to break any windows or cut any seatbelts with this, so I can't speak to its performance, but it does have a hefty weight to it. Each hammer feels like it's a few pounds, with most of the weight in the head, which should make it reliable when its necessary to break a window. You'll want that weight swinging to make the impact.
