This Singer is an excellent replacement for an older model I had. Some of the improved features are an elegant storage compartment built into the machine for holding needles and bobbins and an automatic needle threader. Also the machine is slightly more compact and lighter than the previous machine. To access the manual, you must go online to manuals.singer.com. While the machine came with a voucher for a free beginner's class to learn the machine, my local Singer dealer was not participating in this program and wouldn't accept the voucher. So I went online and watched some You Tube videos which worked excellently! My first two uses of the machine were for denim fabric. The machine performed superbly. Went through both a Brother and Viking (both were embroidery models) with each becoming unusable for various reasons. So, I just decided to go with a more basic unit without the bells and whistles I was not using anyway. This unit has all the stitches I will need along with the power to feel confident sewing denim/leather projects. The auto threading feature worked once before failing. I am working on finding out why. I have only sewn 12 self-bordered napkins. It seems to be noisy, can't get self threader to work and getting thread to needle is awkward for me. I used my previous Singer for 35 years so maybe I am just having trouble adjusting to change.
