The only thing is that it has some slight shakiness when writing on it….not sure if it is an assembly or desk problem. The first one I got was destroyed by shipping (I assume) but the second came perfect. Easy to assemble, heavy duty and sturdy. The top is not smooth though, so if you plan to do writing, get a pad or glass top.

This desk, which is very nice actually, weighs over 100 pounds. I am 73 years old. My son Tom and I lugged it up 3 flights of stairs of a typical Chicago 3-story apartment building. Assembly involved 6 screws for each of the 2 double leg pieces but the holes did not align exactly though we were able to complete the task. Within a couple weeks the solid wood desk top and sides began to split. We requested a replacement, lugged it up 3 flights again and brought the damaged 1 down and transported it back to my home for pickup. We assembled the new 1 and determined that the wood had split because the holes did not line up. We probably overtightened the screws which then put pressure on the wood as the forged leg units do not "give". In checking the instructions provided, it only says "do not overtighten the screws". That is a very relative and unhelpful instruction...! We hand tightened them with the allen wrench included. As the desk weighed more than 100 pounds we did not want to "under tighten" it. I feel strongly that Simplihome or Amazon owes us a credit after all the effort required, the result of poorly aligned holes for the screws and unclear instructions.... ... show more

Do not buy this product. It had multiple quality issues with chipped edges, and when attempting to move with two people the entire thing fell apart. Nothing on the desk or in it, then sliding it gently with two people the legs completely snap off sending the heavy top crashing to the floor. This is not worth the price, and needs to be replaced just after a few months. ... show more

Up front, Iʻm very happy with this desk. Yes, itʻs heavy, thanks to the solid wood and what appear to be enameled iron legs. It is well packed assembly is simple -- 12 bolts. My 7-year-old had it together in 10 mins. Itʻs a good looking desk! As others have mentioned, the "distressed" texture is distinctive, so I wanted to share pics. The texture appears almost unnatural to me, and I suspect a smooth finish would look more refined. Hopefully the "charcoal brown" color comes through in the pics too (thereʻs really nothing charcoal about it). Of course, these things are a matter of preference. This desk is exactly what I wanted: clean look with a keyboard tray drawer, simple design, and quality appearance. This thing is solid wood, so it's heavy. You need two people to move it. Assembly was a piece of cake. Just attach the legs with a few bolts and flip it over. The drawers are a bit shallow, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I'm very happy with this choice. ... show more
