I ordered this bread making kit for my daughter and me to use together. She used to bake bread often and is willing to teach me and these tools look like they will be fun to use. We both like that it comes with 2 sizes of baskets. All of the included tools look sturdy and everything was in a nice box, so I think it would make a nice gift. Unfortunately before we could try it our oven stopped working and the parts to fix it are no longer available. So this will have to wait until we find a new wall oven to fit our narrow space.

I bake bread, but not often. I got this as my first banneton because I wanted to get the concentric lines on my loaf. I don’t bake enough to justify the storage for a regular banneton, so this was a way to experiment with it. It’s sturdy enough, and the yellow is pale so it looks almost traditional when I use it. Easy to wash, dry, and collapse for storage. I’ve tried it twice so far. I used regular flour to coat the mould the first time, and the dough completely stuck to it, so I had to peel it out and reshape it. The second time, I coated the mould with rice flour, and the dough released perfectly. So that’s the secret to using it easily. I think my standard loaf is too high hydration (i.e., too wet a dough) to get that result, but it still helps shape the loaf. Maybe next time I’ll “cheat” and bake it in the banneton, since silicon can take the heat of the oven. That might make the crust too pale, and the oven spring would make the surface rise. So experiments will continue. Overall, a great value for the 2 bannetons, and the Danish dough whisk is something every baker should have, so now I have two. I also was thinking about getting a linen bread bag, so that was a nice bonus. Plus, I paid almost this much for the same style of bread lame a year ago without everything else, so that makes it a fantastic deal!

I will be getting back into making sourdough again soon, and I thought I'd treat myself to using these banneton bread proofing baskets. There are two in the package, a 9-inch round bread proofing basket and a 10-inch oval bread proofing basket. There are several accessories, too, including even a bread bag to hold a loaf in for taking it to a friend's house or get together. What's really nice about these is that the bannetons fold up for storage since they're made of silicone rubber. That means your dough won't stick hard to the sides of the banneton. What got me was that you can even bake your bread in these since they are rated for up to 450 degrees F. These will wash up easily because of the silicone rubber material they are made of. You can use these for other purposes, like serving fruit or salad greens, or whatever. This came with what I call a scoring tool, but the official name is a bread lame. It allows you to hold a razor blade to carefully cut the top to make a design, or just to score the top of the loaves. There's also a dough scraper/cutter, a silicone brush, and a dough whisk (I've never used one of these before). This is a decent bread maker's toolkit. It has probably everything you will need except the bowl to mix the dough in and possibly a stand mixer.

These baskets are the real deal. They are quite thick (good for maintaining even temps) and fold for storage. They also pass the "bend test" for Silicone items (search the net for this), which many silicone products don't since they're made with a cheaper process. This speaks well of quality of these baskets. Now that we're done with the "stars" of the show, let me award a medal for the AWESOME accessories. Most times when you get 'thrown in' accessories they're of dubious use and value, often they're cheap 'junk', well, you know. ;) Not so here. The scraper is a true tool, as well made as my expensive purchased one, and rest are the same. For the money, this is a great set! Jump on it! :)

I've always enjoyed baking as a weekend ritual, but it wasn’t until I got this silicone proofing basket set that I truly felt like a bread artisan. My family was skeptical at first, but after they saw—and tasted—the beautifully shaped sourdough loaves that came out of our oven, they were completely won over. The baskets are not only functional, making clean-up a breeze due to their silicone material, but also space-efficient since they can be folded away. One memorable weekend, I tried a tricky new recipe. Despite the wet, sticky dough, it didn't stick to the baskets at all. Even our cat, who usually just dozes in a sunlit corner of the kitchen, seemed to perk up, intrigued by the transformation taking place. It’s been a joy seeing my baking skills grow with this set, and it's turned our kitchen into a place of gathering and gourmet delights.
